  • 5% off JB HiFi and similar would still be cheaper at $1775.55

    • +11

Price match at JB and drop the -5% gift cards would be even cheaper at $1709.05.

Or save the hassle and just get OW to price beat.

      • That's brilliant thinking!

      • I thought JB won't price mtach amazon. So OW is to go

        • JB does

      • called OW, they don't have this model in stock :(

        • ended up buying from amazon

    • I think the TCN offer is still going on at Woolworths so taking 10% off on the price of the phone.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/685721

Currently the price for 256gb IPhone 13 pro is $1869 so taking 10% off would bring it down to $1682.1.

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/apple-iphone-13-pro-256gb…

      • I just called my local store and they will price match it if sold and shipped by Amazon Au, but has to be in graphite… Wanted midnight blue

      • Can you not first price match at $1799, then take off 10% - so would be $1619.01?

        • Yep, you can surely do that. I have personally experienced that some of the JB stores/store persons don't price match to Amazon. To be sure they do, you can just show the receipt of someone who already did price match at JB.

Can't believe a $51 off would be considered a deal for iPhone. Samsung phones get 20% off the moment they are released.

    • +19

Some would say that reflects how fair the price is in the first place. No one buys Samsung at their ridiculous RRP. Apple has plenty of demand for their phones so has no need to lower prices.

Samsung RRP is like a stack social deal. Wildly optimistic RRP that no one in their right mind pays so they can offer a big discount because no one would buy it otherwise.

      • +7

Not how fair, but considered percieved value.

        • +1

Its not in the best interest of apple and its consumers to have the resale prices to be lower as it would no longer be profitable to buy their product. Use for a year then resell.

What these consumers are failing to see however is they no longer own the product but merely renting it because they are reliant on the resell value.

          • +2

@xoom: How do you not understand that you own the product and are choosing to sell it? By your logic you don’t ever own anything if you end up selling it. “You only own an item if you own it for life”. Ridiculous argument

            • @Smol Cat: Theres more to owning something. You should be able to do what you want with it right? Since its yours to do what you want with it. Like being able to repair it yourself. With parts you can buy. Oh wait. Theres very little you can repair these days with iphones. Its always going to have to go back to apple and their apple authorised repairers.

If you want to learn more. Watch Louis Rossman on youtube. He constantly goes on about do you really own a product if you can't do anything and everything to it. Like repair it yourself.

And yes. Right to repair is part of owning something also.

              • +1

@xoom: You went a real weird way to get to that point, almost doesn’t make sense.

And no, because you don’t have right to repair does not translate to not owning something. You brought it, you own it.

If you just said ‘right to repair should be mandatory’ you would have likely got more support.

                • -1

@aaronmr: I understand that people will never attempt nor want to know how to repair whatever it is they bought themselves. It still doesn't change that the right to repair any less part of owning something.

This goes beyond just tech. Ask any car person. Do they truly own their car if they cannot service it themselves? That if they have to get it repaired. The only place they can take it is the manufacturer. The battery needs replacing. You guessed it. To the manufacturer.

If you truly own your phone. You should be able to take to any competent repair shop. But you just can't do that with apple. They want you to take it back to them.

Is this the sort of ownership that you want to lay claim to. I bought it thats it. I own it. Or do you really? Apple moderators simply said not possible to recover your data once iphone is damaged. Yes blanket statement. Not possible. Jessa Jones was banned from apple forum for telling people that data can possibly be recovered from damaged iphones.

Now if i truly own my iphone i should be able to take my damaged iphone to any competent repairer. After all It is mine right? Apple has gone out of their way to discredit and ruin these people. By getting their stuff confiscated.

      • -1

Yeah there's a reason Samsung always throw in goodies like wireless buds / smart watch etc to try and get preorders. You'd never see that from Apple.

      • +1

the sad thing is not all people want to understand the very simple idea: true cost of ownership = purchase price - resale price. Maybe a bad example, apartments are cheaper, but it does not mean they give you better value than the more costly houses.

        • +8

Except my true cost of ownership is i own the damn thing till it stops working. Then i replace it.

          • +2

@xoom: Yup, Still rockin my 2016 iPhone :)

        • The other one is the much longer OS life - you can count on at least 5+ years of IOS, while Android you're lucky to get 3. The Pixel 3 was released in late 2018, and got its last Android update (A12) in late 2021.

          • +2

            @willyroo: Samsung getting better though

Samsung devices eligible for four major Android updates.

    • +2

Tbh after the quality of my last few Samsungs, i'm pretty glad I made the swap to the iPhone. I really should have looked at other android alternatives but i'm actually pretty happy.

    • -3

Apple iPhone has dominated every Samsung model for years now, it’s just a better product and is priced accordingly.

      • +12

Better for some. Not better for everyone.

I can afford either phone but i still chose android because i just dont like the way apple makes you do things. A walled garden is not for me.

Not holding that against anyone. If you are into that then hey thats your choice.

Just dont like the idea of these companies pushing the envelope when it comes to prices.

It affects the market as a whole and generally all the consumer suffer in the long run.

      • +3

Better for many, and not so for many others. There was also once a tale of a company that slashed prices and lost sales because people assumed their product to be poorer quality, they increased the prices again without changing the product and sales went back up. Precieved value is very important too

        • as if you're renting it rather than owning it

But i paid money therefore i own it.

Very little difference with renting an iphone and buying it to resell later.

You both have to make sure not to damage it and if you do damage it you will never bother getting it repaired anywhere else but apple or risk not getting the best resale value.

Only difference is who is taking the risk with the initial outlay of purchasing the iphone from apple.

      • +1

Ironic considering Apple phones are made of a lot of Samsung parts!

        • -1

No they arent. The outsource the manufacture not the design and development.

      • -1

I moved from Android to iPhone last year. Honestly, they both have cons and pros. I like my iPhone but it will be the last time I spend so much money on a phone.

    • +2

Many of us preordered the iPhone 13 series with a 15% off via apple gift cards actually so not too far off.

      • How do you get 15% off Apple gift cards if I may ask?
I assume you then purchase an iPhone via the Apple store using these?

        • +1
          • @ChillBro: Thanks but I'm trying to get my head around how 30x bonus Everyday rewards or Flybuys points converts to 15%off?

            • @JTTheMan: Are you asking how those points work?

Or are you asking about the 15%? I guess if we're being pedantic, it's technically a bit lower than 15% since you have to spend those points buying something else. However, this is woolies/coles and I don't know a single person who doesn't shop there.

              • @ChillBro: I was just trying to figure out how it's %15 off RRP?
                i.e 15% off $1699 = $1444

So I would buy $1500 Apple gift cards and get 45000 points (worth $225) but I still don't have cash and have to spend those points at Coles?

I just don't equate points with cash so I don't feel I'm getting a true %15 off. Each to their own I guess.

            • @JTTheMan: 1000 flybuys points = 5 dollars off grocery shop.

Eg. You buy $500 in Apple Giftcards, normally would get 500 flybuys point. With 30x promo you’d get 15,000 flybuys points which equates to 75 dollars off grocery shop, which is 15%. It’s not exactly 15% off as in you pay 15% less for Apple Giftcards, but considering just about everyone buys groceries at either Coles/Woolies, it’s close enough.

            • @JTTheMan: Also AFAIK there hasn’t been 30x promos since the last time. It’s all just been 20x which equates to 10% off. Correct me if wrong.

              • @Dr Fruit: Yeah I bought my 13 pro max during 15% off at woollies gift card deal.
Honestly, I got a bespoke z flip 3 and haven't looked back. Coolest phone I've owned in such a long time.

    • Not 20%, with the pre-order deal its more like 40-50% off

  • +1

As usual, OW has very limited stock in limited number of stores and you can’t order it online “Unavailable online” so no stock in warehouse :/

  • OW price beat + 5% giftcard + 5% employee discount…

  • -4

call me crazy, a phone above $500 AUD is somewhat insane to me… something most people won't own in 36 months lol $1800…..bonkers

    • 36 months??

    • +5

      Crazy

    • +11

For something most folks use for hours every day, and it's their phone / computer / camera / gps etc is it that wild to buy a good one if you can afford it?

      • +3

I think he's making the point that you can do all those things with a much cheaper phone.

    • There are people who buy these things at nearly 2k then resell after one year then rinse repeat.

      • I do this and it costs me $200-300 per year changeover :)

        • +1

I wonder what’s the most convenient and safe way to trade your old but still expensive iPhones? I’m not very comfortable with meeting strangers in person exchanging stuff worths thousands, and have also heard horror stories about selling on eBay where dodgy buyers return bricks to you and PayPal would do nothing about it.

          • +1

@GreenRomeo: Generally meeting in a public place like shopping centres or busy train stations are ok. Lots of cameras everywhere and lots of people around.

    • Username checks out.

Unless you bought a $1 mil house 30-40 mins from the CBD.

    • You use your phone more than a car. 36 month old iPhone also worth probably 30-40% of original price, so you get that money back too.

If you bin your phone or leave in a draw, you aren't a true cheapskate

  • +2

I've found it's much better value to buy used iPhone, I just bought a second hand iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB for NZ$1,000. I had the battery replaced at the authorised dealer for NZ$119, it's good for another 3 years.

    • +1

Interesting that you need to replace the battery. With just over a year of usage, shouldn't battery still at over 90%?

      • +1

        yes it should

also replacing the battery sacrifices the devices water resistance

        • +4

          Not if done by apple.

          • -2

@Kritik: you are kidding yourself if you think the average apple repair guy is going to meet the same standards at the factory

            • @desync: Pretty sure they can match a bunch of suicidal underpaid Foxconn workers.

      • +1

The battery was sitting at 84%, so I thought $119 is good price to pay. While they were replacing the battery, they somehow damaged the screen so they replace the display free of charge, otherwise it would be over $600. I can't tell the difference after picking up the phone, it was nicely done, after all they are authorised by Apple.

    • from where you bought it? online? can you mention the webstie

      • I bought it from Trademe, NZ equivalent of eBay AU.

    • I agree. I upgraded my X to an 11 Pro, after selling my old iPhone, I was only out of pocket $350 and the battery was replaced at Apple for free. I'll likely hold onto my 11 Pro for a couple more years and then upgrade to a 13 Pro in the future.

  • Will the Apple store price match Amazon?

    • No wot

      • Damn have too many apple gift cards.

        • -1

You can pay you tax deficit then. 😂

      • Does Apple store price match other physical stores then?

        • No

        • They do, but they only give discount up-to 10% of theirs price value (e.g. Apple price $1000, other physical store $800 and apple would able to match it for $900 not $800).

  • Just bought the S22 Ultra for $1280….

  • im moving to iPHone from Samsung Galaxy.

are there any camera difference between 13 pro and 13 pro max ?

    • Nope.

      • Thanks this is good start iphone model then :)

  • +1

Do you think that $51 is the reason that I don't own and iPhone??

  • +1

Wait for Iphone 14 pro bro 😎

  • Is there any major camera difference between iPhone 12pro max vs iPhone 13 pro max?

    • Yes. The 13 pro lenses are far bigger so let in more light. Just look at a photo they’re way larger.

The 12pro max camera is actually what they use on the normal 13 now.

  • Can you not first price match at $1799, then take off 10% - so would be $1619.01?
