    Nice deal.

Why is it just for people who have registered a kindle before though?

I've never had a kindle.. Surely they would want to tempt new customers.

      This is them trying to claim money out of people like me who;

Have a Paperwhite for about 7 year,
      Use it literally everyday
Have no plan to ever upgrade at all

      Unless it dies.

I had the Paperwhite 7th gen for years, and upgraded to the 11th just for the warm light, and to me it was worth it. The bigger screen is useful too

    • maybe they are trying to get people to upgrade who otherwise wouldn't?

      • Maybe

  • I want a kindle paperwhite, have been monitoring Amazon for some weeks, but they have not run any promotions on Paperwhite during the last 3 months or so.

    • I bought mine during Boxing Day for $169 plus an extra - 8% Cashrewards. Definitely a great product and I use it everyday

      • Great price considering it is $239 now! Cashrewards cashback is not always reliable though, ecspecially with Amazon. I did not get my 8% of a kitchen applience purchase from Amazon via Cashrewards despite my missing cashback claims.

  • Oh, thats annoying, I was going to get one for my mrs. I only have 10th gen and later though

  • If anyone is wondering, I have an oasis now… I would never ever ever go back to Paperwhite. The size, warm light, handhold and physical buttons are a dream… That being said I'm an "in bed on my side" reader which suits

    • Paperwhite has warm light too, the screen is only slightly smaller, and with all the complaints about the poor Oasis battery life then I reckon the Paperwhite is a better choice until the next Oasis revision. The buttons are good though.

Interesting, didn't get the email but it does appear on the device page. Still using kindle keyboard 3g (10+ year)
Now, is it worth the upgrade?

    • Question, do all kindle have the text to speech capability?

      • +1

There is no speaker on the kindles. My first kindle was also a kindle keyboard and that had txt to speech. The new ones do have Bluetooth capabilities but I don’t think txt to speech is still possible.

It’s worth it for the backlight if we’re comparing your kindle to these new ones.

It’s definitely a much upgraded device since the keyboard version for sure. As mentioned it doesn’t have a keyboard and txt to speech obviously, but everything else is just better to use.

I also just realised this listing doesn’t include the latest paperwhite. I’d personally wait until that goes on special instead if you were going to get one.

        • Can't believe I never really looked into text to speech on the keyboard. Have been using audible for a few months now.
Text to speech gonna come handy to start "reading" all the books I hoarded on ozbargain… And pause my audible subs.

@ShouldIBuyIt: Just sign up to Libby, use a vpn and sign up to the LA library or any other US library that offers e-cards without requiring you to go in, and borrow free books and audiobooks on your phone, and you can also send the books to your kindle.

            • @Psygnosis: Cheers, I know I've seen some discussion here on which library to sign up to, and workaround address/mobile phone/pin but didn't sign up and can't find it.
You don't happen to remember which post it was discussed by any chance?

              • +2

@ShouldIBuyIt: It’s easy. Use a vpn and set it to the US. Use google maps and find a random address in LA. Go the la library site, use the address details, and sign up for an e-card and use those details into Libby.

King County is another library that you can sign up to and also has a large collection. Others, but not limited, you can sign up to that don’t require in person registration : Broward County, Chicago, Queens Public Library, Santa Clara County, Kentucky Library Unbound, Brooklyn Public library.

Out of the list LA has the largest selection but it doesn’t hurt signing up to a few. You can also use those details into Kanopy to watch free movies.
