Free 90 Day Subscription to The Sizzle (Normally 2 Weeks)

6740

OzBargain has been good to me over the years, saving me loads of cash and giving me product advice in the comments. To repay the favour I am giving the OzBargain community a special offer to my semi-popular technology related email newsletter, The Sizzle. Every weekday I send an email out covering the latest tech news in a brief, entertaining and down to earth format. Been doing it for almost 7 years now!

Instead of the usual 14-day trial, OzBargainers can get a 90-day trial, absolutely free. No need to worry about forgetting the trial and paying accidentally as I don't ask for payment details, just your email address.

I've given promo offers on OzBargain before: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/thesizzle.com.au, but this is the best promo yet I reckon. There's probably 200+ OzBargain members that are paying subscribers of The Sizzle so if it's good enough for them to pay me, it's good enough for you to not pay and try it out for 90 days!

Wonder how many of the unvaxxed commenters from the last post will be jumping in on this

    • +12

      lol, those weirdos

  • +2

So disappointed this wasn't a virtual sausage sanga meet up, would've gladly paid past the 90 day trial

    • +9

If you're in Melbourne, there may be a free sausage sizzle happening in the near future ;)

      • +6

Yay! I love a good sausage fest!

        • +1

          So no Ladies will attend?

          • +4

@Thrifty Dan: Let's be honest, it's a tech email newsletter. I'd like to think there's more women enjoying it than the usual tech-related thing, but it's still gonna be mostly blokes.

          • +1

            @Thrifty Dan:

            So no Ladies will attend?

Why wouldn't they? I'm sure they love sausages sizzles as much as the guys.

Just remember, onions on the bottom.

            • @MrPants: You must be a Bunnings bbq person too.

We used to use 2 pieces of bread to make a sandwich, so we just turned the sandwich upside down.

          • @Thrifty Dan: I'd go! :D

  • If there is Sizzle, is there Steak?
Are Steak Knives on offer or BYO?

    • +2

I ate steak last night for dinner. Tasty.

    • There is a block of flats plus Tasmania thought.

  • +1

Good on ya for giving back to the community even though you really didn't have too (y)

    • +8

Just paying it forward. Love OzBargain and the deals dished out regularly. Saved me shitloads of cash.

    • Cheers mate!

OzBargain has been good to me over the years

How many eneloops did you buy?

    • +13

More of an IKEA LADDA fan myself. My OzBargain vice is discounted JB Hi-Fi gift cards. Always stock up whenever they hit OzBargain.

  • +6

Already a paying subscriber but have happily been forking out money for this quality content for years and look forward to the newsletter every weekday. Definitely worth giving a try

    • +1

Long term subscriber! Thank you :)

  • +10

Already a paid subscriber, and for people going "wtf am I paying for an email"

    The main advantages are:

    • It's an aussie, so they will swear, and not write colour incorrectly.
    • It's 100% slim and low on crap waffle - you know what I'm talking about, with paid sponsor hidden bits
    • Did I say it cuts the crap?

Well recommended, I paid up after the trial.

    • +10

Glad to know people appreciate the no-spin/no-bullshit approach. I wouldn't bullshit my friends, so why would I do that to people that pay me? Life's too short for that crap.

  • +1

Subscriber for about a year I reckon. Good read every afternoon!

    • +3

Lots of people tell me they look forward to the email every arvo as it gives them a small break from work, haha

  • +3

    Bring back MacTalk! :P

    • +1

Funny you say that! I had a guy email me a few days ago asking me to bring it back, as he saw my name on the mactalk.com.au domain registration - I'm still the tech contact for some reason, despite having sold the site (and domain name) almost 11 years ago now.

      • So is that a no then? lol

        • +9

Unfortunately not. I don't really have a passion for Apple stuff these days. If anything Apple piss me off more than I love em lately.
AppleTalk is a decent place to hang out and chat with Aussies about Apple stuff. Run by a former mod of MacTalk.

  • +2

Been subscribed for a couple of years. One of the only newsletters I read every day and pretty much straight away. Great signal-to-noise ratio and good community in the Slack and forums. Highly recommend this!

    • +2

Thanks - I'm also surprised how good the community is on Slack and the forums. I literally have no moderation headaches. I guess keeping it small and behind a paywall helps keep the (profanity) out.

  • Best newsletter GLOBALLY!

    • +1

Oh there's some pretty damn good newsletters out there. But I'll take the compliment :)

  • I'm a happy paying subscriber 👍

    • +3

And I'll happily take your money, thank you!

  • I have been a subscriber for 2 years now, great newsletter!!

    • +1

2 years! Thanks for the kind words.

  • +1

I’ve loved Anthony’s writing since the MacTalk days and recently subscribed to The Sizzle and haven’t been left disappointed. Great newsletter and a steal for the price!

    • +1

Oh man, that's a long time to be following me around the internet. Thanks for the support all these years.

  • Can vouch for The Sizzle, it's short, blunt and honest. Can highly recommend!

    • +1

Thank you, I try my best!

  • +1

Not only is The Sizzle the easiest way to keep up with the important tech news without sitting in my own RSS feeds all day, it's literally saved me well more than the subscription price in bargain links each year. Arguably. Assuming I needed to buy all of the bargains, of course.

And (big IANAL warning) as an industry publication, it's deductible if you work in tech (not a lawyer, correct me if I'm wrong).

Definitely worth trying out for 3 months to see if it tickles you. I've subscribed since issue #7 and never even thought of dropping the sub after my first free week.

    • +1

      I certainly deduct it…

    • +5

It is absolutely tax deductible. Info direct from the horses mouth: https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/income-and-deductions/ded…

"You can claim a deduction for books, periodicals and digital information you use as part of earning your employment income, if you incur the expense. Books and periodicals may include library subscriptions, academic journals, technical journals, reference books and similar. Digital information services may include online subscriptions, electronic material, such as e-books or e-journals and other digital materials you buy."

Instant $50 tax deduction for paying subscribers :)

      • +1

Oof, time to find my receipt!

        • +2

Lemme know if you can't find it in your email - I can re-send it to you easily.

      • +1

Further down on the same page you referenced is this requirement.

is mainly used for earning your assessable employment income (not from carrying on a business)

A general tech publication (which I assume this is from the comments - I haven't read it myself) for most people isn't directly related to earning one's income. It provides general knowledge on a subject related to one's field of employment but it's hard to argue that it's "mainly used for earning your assessable employment income"

I've had this discussion with my tax agent and her advice, based on experience from clients that have been audited, is this isn't tax deductible.

  • Best thing you'll ever spend money on from my perspective. Something about Anthonys writing style just brings a smile to the face irrelevant of what it is. Everyone has their own likes/dislikes but for me, the down to earth nature combined with some brutal honesty is just top class in my book. Maybe that's the inner bogan in me speaking

    • +2

From one bogan to another, thanks!

  • There's never been a better time to subscribe to The Sizzle!

    • +1

There's never been a better time to buy a rug.

  • +1

The only email I look forward to every day. Love the Sizzle.

    • Cheers! I look forward to sending it (most days).

  • I absolutely love The Sizzle. Anthony has a way with tech news that just hits the spot.

    • +1

I pride myself on finding the spot.

  • I subscribe because I like the nerdy news, but also because over the course of a year, I easily save at least the subscription price when I buy fancy gadgets for less than RRP.

    • Come for the tech news, stay for the bargains :)

  • Absolutely well worth the price of entry after the freebie. I’ve been a subscriber for years. Thanks Anthony.

    • Thank you!

  • Thanks, Anthony. :)

    • You're very welcome.

  • I'm a subscriber. @decryption emailed me and asked me to say nice things here, so here goes.

I saw The Sizzle get mentioned on twitter a few times. When I looked into it I saw it was a paid newsletter. I was like "WTF?! Why would I pay for a newsletter?! Those things should be free". Anyway one of @decryption's deals popped up here. It seemed cheap, so I gave it a shot. I managed to get a discounted renewal too. This year I paid full price and I'm still happy.

@decryption does this mean my puppy gets to live?

    • +1

The puppy is safe and sound. Thank you :)

  • +6

I pay for The Sizzle because Anthony has threatened to kneecap me if I unsubscribe. But the content is excellent and the extra stuff for subscribers is well worth it, so it's great value for money.

    • +2

I interpret each unsubscribe as a personal failing.

  • I subbed a little while back during another free time offer and decided to pay and stay subbed. Haven't regretted it. It's an informative and fun newsletter and the forum is an enjoyable read too.

    • +1

My plan worked! Glad you enjoy The Sizzle. Thank for commenting :)

  • Love The Sizzle, I already subscribe and it's well worth it!

    • You love The Sizzle and I love you for subscribing!

  • Love your work, been on this for more than three years and read every day! Great short daily aggregated IT news!

    • +1

I've been emailing you (almost) every day for three years, we are basically best friends at this point.

  • Well worth the money. Anthony's uniquely Aussie take on global tech is absolutely priceless… receiving his email is one of the highlights of my day, every day!

    • Aww, thank you. It's nice to know my work is a highlight of someone's day.

  • Appreciate this offer Anthony. Thank you very much.

    • You're welcome, hope you like the emails.

  • I’ve been a subscriber for a while. Can claim the cost back on tax and the bargains section has saved me heaps. 10/10 would sign up again.

  • Worth every cent.
Anthony is a legend and more importantly, the content of his newsletter is fantastic.

    • No, you're a legend!

  • This deal needs more Pizza Burger

    • +1

I think there's still bits of it in my intestines. I'm certain parts of it in my arteries.

  • OK, been a sub for several years now and it has effectively made me money as I have saved way more than the cost on the bargains it has listed on a daily basis. You get that and the latest tech news delivered to the desktop every weekday and access to the forum and slack full of very clever guys and girls, what could be better??. Do yourself a favour and get on board.
