Ok got it thanks. I thought the promo code was used at checkout

Tempted to get an M1 air. I can wait for the rumoured refresh on sept, however, I wonder if there will be a price increase with all that’s going on.

    • +3

My m1 air is amazing. Apple hold their prices so we’ll. Buy now. Sell in September. Be about a $200 upgrade I reckon.

    • +8

They have been incrementally increasing the price. I bought my MBAir 256 M1 when it came out for $1298. No discount. Then it went up to $1347. Just looked at this price and the fact that it is 20% off. On Apple’s Website it is now $1499! Wtf.

Also, M1 is a lot of hype. The battery life, speakers etc. is amazing but I sometime use for complex Excel Calcs and it takes way longer than my older i5 8260 Thinkpad Carbon X1. So performance is relative. Day to day experience is really good though.

      • +2

That might be a Rosetta virtualisation issue possibly. Arm apps are very smooth

        • +2

There is no Rosetta virtualisation on newer versions of Excel.

      • +3

        performance is relative

        Ummm, yes, always has been.

      • +3

I made the switch 5 months ago and I still pull out my x1 carbon for a few things.

        • +1

On MB Air, I tend to get distracted (apps, graphics, sounds etc.). If I need to focus and get things out, X1 is still my go to. It’s just made for productivity.

          • @RandomDealHunter: So the X1 has no graphics, sounds or apps?

            • @Icecold5000: Didn’t say that. X1 is not a media device and so the viewing media is not an immersive experience. Also, I find X1 keyboard a joy to use where I actually enjoy working on it rather than the crappy keys on MBAir.

              • @RandomDealHunter: MacBooks are quality consumer level devices. Sounds like your expectations of using a gimped laptop have been disappointed

      • +3

I’m not sure where you’re getting these prices from

The rrp for MacBook Air M1 was $1599 on launch

It was dropped to $1499 when the AUD climbed

I’ve never seen the MacBook Air M1 for $1299 (no discount)

        • +1

Bought it a while ago. M1 MBAir 256 & M1 iPad Pro 11 128 were the same price. It was a hard decision: touch screen & better display vs Keyboard and storage. Bought from Officeworks outright at the time. Not going to argue at all as your timing might be different than mine.
The week after both Apple and Officeworks raised prices to $1347 and I was feeling giddy about it.

      • +1

sometime use for complex Excel Calcs

Generally well known that Mac Excel is trash

    • Honestly thought you meant the new iPad M1 Air

      • Whoops meant MB air.

    • +2

I'm in the same boat. Worth the wait imo. Unless splurge now and go straight for the Macbook Pro 14, which should last you forever + will be better than any MBA -About the double the price though lol, but at least you know you won't be missing out on anything.

      • MBA is fanless, all the other models have a fan and the noise that comes with it.

        • True! Most reviews mention the fan can barely be heard if at all most of the time though

        • I think if you're doing MBA workload, you won't get much fan. If you're getting a lot of fan, then MBA might not have been the best for you in the first place.

        • There's noise only if the fan actually turns on. Which it never does, except under heavy 3D gaming.

      • +1

MBP 14 M1 Pro should also still be faster than the basic M2 in the new MBA as well.

That said the form factor is expected to change in the MBA too.

        • Yeah I’m pretty keen to see what the new MBA is like. If the performance and price is similar to the current model, I’d happily wait and pay for the redesign

  • would be great if we can use JB gift cards as payment for further discount

  • You’ve gotta be careful with the prices! AirPods Pro are $375 for some reason lol

  • I could've sworn I checked this last month and the Macs weren't offered.

Wow! iPad only $448, paid $469 from Apple education.

    • 256gb ipad on apple edu is $679 vs $650 on jb edu

      • Use a discount gift card and it works out better - can get edu price at JB.

        • Apparently cannot paid by GC.

          • @browser: In which case you might be better to buy Apple gift cards when Woolies/Coles/Big W are doing the bonus points promotions which gets converted to money off groceries, and use the gift cards via Apples Edu Store which does allow them. Can occasionally also stack with bonus cashback such as was offered earlier this week.

Lots of that stuff is amazingly awful in terms of pricing. Logitech TKL 915 is $1 off at only $348 where it's $100 less in other local stores.

Airpods were the second thing I looked at, also overpriced… Exited store soon after.

  • +1

    Can pay with gift cards?

    • I would like to know also, I've clicked through and can't find option for gift cards

    • No, cannot.

    • Nope.

  • I can’t seem to be able to find anywhere to place the code.

    • Comes up as soon as you click on the link
Place to put the code in just under "parents enter code here" then click start shopping

  • +3

Its cheaper from the apple aoc store though?

    MacBook Pro 512 GB = $1973

did I entered some wrong codes? :P

    • +3

      MacBook Pro 512 GB ($1704)

Op got the price mixed up with the 256gb one.

  • I bought Logitech G305 Lightspeed for $69 just a couple days ago at JBHiFi in-store vs $93 in edu store. Prices are so jacked up.

  • Code not available.

This is not a promo code. This is the code that student edge members get access to their student edge discount. You could have posted student edge discount and let people join student edge. Now the access code is banned and no one from student edge can access to jbeducation now. Well done.

Anyone disappointed at missing this can get almost the same pricing from Apple’s edu store with free delivery: https://www.apple.com/au-hed/store

Other benefit is you can BTO too.

    • And I remember seeing discount Apple GC somewhere a while ago. Stack it like you mean it

    • Student verification necessary?

      • +1

No. My wife and sister both ordered from the edu store recently with their normal Gmail addresses, and zero issues.

        • cheers mate
