It's a US import and is currently US$84.95 but was US$70 recently and has been as low as US$64 in the past year.
So a good deal compared to the AU price but is actually the highest US price so far - might be cheaper again in you can wait

But does one really need 7 leatherman's ;-)

If you're a serial killer sure why not

Seems like a good deal, but still seems expensive for what it offers. Why not get a Victorinox for cheaper with more functions? Something like Victorinox Outrider. Similar size, a little fatter. Plus it's made in Switzerland vs USA.

  • Rather spend extra and get another wave or a one hand opening coyote

    • What do you think of the workchamp?

good brand and decent price without really hunting around, if you dont want to splash leatherman money this looks okay too.

that being said there have been some very tight pricing for leatherman tools lately.

  • Anyone have a recommendation for a simple knife that will stay sharp? Doesn't need all the fancy tools.

        Captives, going by his username

      • Just everyday stuff, rope, string, packages, small bits of wood, etc.

        • I keep a Spyderco Ladybug H1 on my desk for packages etc.

Nothing will stay sharp for long with what you’re doing. Ideal edge geometry for those things varies and you’re going to wear any edge down with those uses.

If you do a lot of packages, splitting tape can a build adhesive residue up on your blade edge much faster than wearing the edge down. A good clean can be almost as effective as actually sharpening your tool.

For daily grab/resharpenable blades - leatherman or spyderco last as long as anything I’ve used and paying someone to resharpen them is usually not super expensive - the guy who does mine does kitchen knives at the same time for like $6 per edge. You can get much more expensive and usually much bulkier to carry around premium knives like s30v steel or other premium products - but the price jump is substantiaI, and they still need to be maintained.

I personally prefer disposable utility blades for that kind of task. I buy 100 packs of the blades and whatever handle form feels comfortable at bunnings. They’re always just a blade change away from being super sharp.

    • There is no magical steel that never dulls and never needs resharpening.

Having said that, not all steels are made equal and you can go for higher end steels like S30V for better edge retention.

Yes S30V or S35VN would be my pick as the best all-round steel, however you need the right equipment and some experience to sharpen. Also not cheap.

I have this knife for almost 3 years work like a charm and good size i used for camping and outdoor activities.

      • Something seems off with that store. Some knives are insanely cheap, about half the US price. There is also another store, https://www.campknife.com.au/, which seems identical (same products, layout etc) but prices are different (generally cheaper) and free shipping??
