Hey all,

We have a special running on Hubitat.

We have written a blog providing more information on this home automation hub and what it can do: https://smartguys.com.au/blog/post/why-you-should-consider-h…

For the price point it really packs a punch, considering you get integration into Alexa & Google. You also get Z-Wave (AU) and Zigbee built in and there is a long list of compatible devices (https://docs.hubitat.com/index.php?title=List_of_Compatible_…)

It comes with a variety of built-in apps, and has an active user community to share ideas, insights, and solutions.

Please let us know if you have any questions and we will try our best to help.

Regards,
The Smart Guys Team

  • How does this compare to home assistant? Been using it for a while and pretty happy with it.. But always happy to switch things up

      Stick with HA.
I went from Hubitat to HA and device compatibility can't even be compared also automations are so much easier to create.
I only run my zwave devices in Hubitat now but will probably shift them over at some point when I can be bothered.

Agreed, if you are already on Home Assistant, we would also stick with it. Home Assistant integrates with more devices/brands than any other platform and is what we use in our own homes.

Where Hubitat comes in is for those that want the local control but want something easier to setup and on dedicated hardware out of the box. Google Home/Alexa integration is also free in Hubitat and easy to set up :D

          Not enough thrusting guys.

          HOME ASSISTANT!

Also, are you getting more HA Blue, and will you stock HA Yellow?

      • automations are so much easier to create.

Huh? Automation in Hubitat is easy. The rules engine is one of its strengths.

    • What is home assistant exactly?

      • +1

Home Assistant is an open source piece of software that allows you to automate your home. Any devices you have on WiFi will likely integrate with it but you can also integrate Zigbee and Z-Wave devices by adding additional USB sticks (Conbee II or Aeotec Z-Stick). (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/)

The key benefit is getting devices from different brands to talk to each other (e.g. get your IKEA motion sensor to trigger your Phillips Hue lights). It means you aren't locked into a single ecosystem and can completely bypass the cloud. Best of all it is free - https://www.home-assistant.io/

Unfortunately the Home Assistant Blue which has the software preinstalled on it is now discontinued, but you can always just download the software and install it on an old computer or raspberry pi.

We now sell this which is the same as home assistant blue without the case:

        • Awesome. Thanks mate!

@ONEMariachi: Wait for HA Yellow which is coming later this year. You can get it direct if SGA does not stock it

        • Any devices you have on WiFi will likely integrate with it

How about a Logitech Harmony Companion? I'd be surprised if that could integrate since Logitech locks it down tight, they don't want people straying from their mandatory app. Specifically the light dimmer rocker switches on the harmony remote would be good to get access to, but I doubt it's possible.

I've just noticed logitech has discontinued all their harmony remotes. What is the alternative universal remote these days? Anything good that plays nicely with Hubitat?

  • Pretty hard sell if you have HA running. Competition is good though!
