Segway Ninebot Kickscooter F40A $759.05 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

240
AFTERPAY5

This escooter went down in price by $400 recently and was quite popular in this deal and now with stacked with this 5% Afterpay code it's even cheaper.

The quick specs is that the max stock speed is approximately 25km/h, typical range of 30-40km, 350W front motor, 10" pneumatic tyres, electronic + disc brake and the scooter is suitable for people up to 120kg.

Now before anyone says it…. yes eScooters are illegal in NSW and yes you can get fined for it we know, but it's also legal in some other states. Like in Tasmania where you can even get free ferry rides to the CBD.

And for those playing at home I've made an OzBargain eScooter Bingo Chart for every other comment. Have fun!

Winner! Hit me up in Brunswick and I'll give you a free ride on a Neuron or Lime of your choice.

      • I tried the Neurons in Adelaide in 2020.

Are they still trialling them there?

        • Yep. A shame they don't have Beam as they're superior.

          • @Clear: In what way are they better?

            • +1

@jv: Agree, Beam scooters have a front fork suspension, which gives a noticeably smoother ride. I find the Neurons very uncomfortable for the route I usually travel as there are some parts that are quite rough.

  • any alternative scooter with a similar price range?

This one similar price with coupon AFPYDY and free shipping $761.17

The only difference between the F40 and F40A is that the F40A has the EU restricted firmware where it will do the street legal 25km/h max speed, while the F40 will do 30km/h. It's possible (and very easy) to change the firmware.

There's not really any other escooters as good as this in the price range on sale sadly.

      • I've been considering getting an awesome looking no-brand one from AliExpress. Do you know if that one, that all the stores there are selling, is any good?

        • Link me and I'll see.

          • @Clear: The $988 option here looks decent.
            https://a.aliexpress.com/_ms3EOyY

            • @RickyJ: It's $975 before GST now and appears to be the x48. It's the second cheapest option on the page and has two red stripes on the deck.

          • @Clear: Many stores have an ~$850 option but they have 8" tyres. I've also been considering the Jueshuai x500, x750 or x900 for around $1200.

            https://a.aliexpress.com/_mOQCuoY

            • @RickyJ: Certainly cheap prices assuming you don't get flogged with import charges but the lack of warranty compared to local offerings is a bit of the downside. On a plus side it looks like all the batteries are 20Ah and above. Anything <18Ah and you'll get a range of 30km when a lot of hills or speed is involved.

For me I've been considering the Bolzzen Commando as probably the best value local stock scooter you can get. 2x 800W motors, 48V 22Ah battery, 50A sine wave controller (battery life with these is so much better) and up to 70km range. It's made by Joyor and seems pretty solid. Best of all it's under $2000 and that's really good value compared to something like the VDM-10 that goes by many names.

In regards to the new SuperScooter. That's Segway's "sports" model and I believe the expected price will be around $4000-$5000 and that puts it up there with Nami. Seems to be quite heavy too so I'm looking more forward to the Segway P100s being designed for offroad use and the features are pretty cool. NFC unlock, USB-C charging, build quality, the lights and so forth. I think it's going to sell for $2000.

  • The typical range is for someone ~50kg. If you're ~100kg it's pretty close to half that.

    • Yeah unfortunately that's how ranges are calculated. 30km at ~100kg would still work.

      • Maaaaybe. At the lowest speed on a flat/downhill surface.

        • Nah can confirm from real life experience at 95kg ish lol

          • @Clear: On this model?

My experience is with the G30P at 92kg is it's 65km range is good for just under 35km.

            • -1

@DonWilson: Have tested with the Pro 2 and that's basically the same as this and smaller. If you're riding sports 24/7 then I can understand why you'd get less.

              • @Clear: Oh yeah, mostly in 25kph mode. If you run in Eco the range goes up.

                • @DonWilson: Eco is too slow. Drive for footpaths, Sports for roads/shared pathways when they're empty and for hills.

                  • @Clear: Drive is limited to 20kph on the G30P and requires a buttload of button presses to get to and more to get out of. Hard to adjust as you ride. So I just set whatever they call cruise control to 10kph on Sport on slow/pedestrian paths.

  • What’s the next step up from this scooter? I have the Xiaomi pro 2 but am looking for something a little faster

    • +3

This would be quite on par with the Pro 2. You'd be looking at the Max G30LP or G30 as an upgrade.

What state are you in? If you have Beam rental scooters their newer ones are based off the commercial Max Plus and that's a modified G30 with suspension. It gives you a real feel of how a G30 would be.

If you wanted to go more high end ($1800+) I can recommend models in brands like Bolzzen, Dragon etc.

      • I've been eyeing the G30 Max for the last few weeks. Wish i bought one when they were on sale. The Max plus looks nice but can't see them for sale anywhere.

        • +1

Max Plus is for commercial businesses like rental companies. Hasn't been any G30 on a sale for quite a while.

      Install a cfw , you'll get 35kph

And far less range. Once the battery goes under 40% Sports mode really loses a lot of power sadly.

  • Come across this news last week.
    https://9now.nine.com.au/a-current-affair/sydney-man-fined-t…
Was planning this option for if got the job offer with poor transportation.
At least for those in NSW.

    • Linked in literally every single escooter deal.

  • Is something like this legal in WA? Would love to get something for my daughter to get to her work (5kms).

  • In Victoria the rule like this:
    Is my scooter legal?

    If your motorised scooter:

is powered by a petrol motor
has an electric motor with a maximum power greater than 200 watts
has a maximum speed greater than 10 km/h
then it cannot be legally used on a road or any road related areas, including footpaths, share paths and public areas. The fine for an illegal device is $826. Other penalties may also apply.

It seems you can ride it at your private place only.

    • i’m in victoria and it’s one of the things that stops me spending money on one. since they brought in lime and neuron rental for a trial non white or orange scooters do stand out more … not sure how police would check if you scooter is limited to 10kph or less than 200w , especially if no compliance plate and i can’t see police being able to look at the motor or getting on it and seeing how fast it would go …… 10kph is faster and easier than walking , not sure what 200w means uphill though …… but do people buy 200w 10kph scooters or ride illegal ones in victoria ?

i think lime is made by okai…… so if you got an okai you have lots of spare parts on the street if you have a 5 point torx screw driver ……not sure who makes neutron …. are they limited to 10kph and 200w ?

I got this scooter a couple of days ago. It’s aight.

    My main criticisms are

-front wheel drive is very front-tyre-freespin/skid prone. You need to be wise with the acceleration and can’t just floor it like you can on the g30/lp
-range is nothing close to the advertised but that’s old news
-the charging brick is not integrated into the scooter so not that portable, not too big a deal

    • Grab one of the scooter bags off AliExpress that you attach to the handlebars or stem. Stick your charger inside that.

    • Can I ask, how much do you weigh and how much do you ACTUALLY get?

  • The Segway SuperScooter GT series will be launching on Indiegogo in 11days. It has a top speed of 70km/h and 11" self sealing tyres. No hint on price yet.

  • One thing that's kind of stopped me buying these is that if it's a good scooter, I want to be able to get parts/battery for 5 years (at least).

Can anyone speak to this, as-in, one you know does this? Does this one?

    • Parts with Segway-Ninebot are certainly more common. A quick example has the Wheel Hub Motor from Panmi's part store. They're in the process of getting more stock of various parts.

    • $800 at 5 years is $160 theoretical cost a year. No idea what you're planning to use it for, but would you save $160 a year in fuel, parking and hassle?
