  • Heard that the new IPAD runs pretty hot.

    • I would consider it as the main selling point for the Ipad 3 as it keeps you hands warm in winter. Apple don't make mistakes. They set the standards. <insert sarcasm emitcon here>

      • +1, my kids like it, and always put it on their lap during this winter. On summer I reckon they will come back to their ipad 2.

        • +1

Ipad = heat pad. This seems like an extra feature.

      • my kids like it, and always put it on their lap during this winter.

and as an added bonus it makes your kids sterile, so you will never have to worry about teen pregnancies in years to come

      • +1

        They never make mistake A++

if there is a flaw, it's just an unwanted function they created. u don't like the extra? just live with it (as most ppl do).

for me, i go with android, no worms

    • hot but acceptable.
i'm using Cygnett iPad 2 Cases to solve the issue.

    • Not that much hotter than other tablets, or laptops that are much hotter

    • You Apple haters are so sad. Seriously get a life.

    $853 @ Big W

If you were lucky enough to get Good Guys gift cards take 20% off that…

    • -3

Yep, I got good guys vouchers. iPad 64gb 4G for $840, less 20% on voucher, and GST back as I'm going overseas. $588 total.

      • Go a step further and get TGG to price match Shoppingsquare.

        Why did you neg this?

For those who can't get TGG cards (I would presume a majority couldn't) this is the best deal yet.

        • +2

I negged because I don't think it's a great deal in my circumstances. Even for people who can't get TGG vouchers, I was able to get a price of $840 at TGG without a haggle. I asked for price match on BIGW price, he put it down as $840 "just in case someone else is offering that price".
The shopping square offer is $11 cheaper than my base price at TGG, but it doesn't include GST. For anyone who can claim back GST (travelling or company purchase), then buying from shoppingsquare doesn't make sense.

If I can't neg. because I don't see something as a good deal, then when can I neg? It's nothing personal against the OP, purely my opinion of the deal on offer.

        • Why are people so sensitive to this 'negging'

          Thanks OP. Sure looks good

        • +1

I got GG vouchers but there is no ACT stock of this ipad so a fat lot of good they are,
          so should I neg myself?

        • "For anyone who can claim back GST (travelling or company purchase), then buying from shoppingsquare doesn't make sense."

Maybe YOU need the GST, but others don't.

"I was able to get a price of $840 at TGG without a haggle."

And how long do you think TGG's stock will last? Forever? When everyone has gift cards now?

"If I can't neg. because I don't see something as a good deal, then when can I neg?"

You neg when it's a bad deal for everyone, not when it's a bad deal for you. When TGG runs out of stock, which should be after tomorrow since everyone's gift cards will have been activated then) where else can you buy it cheaper than this? Assuming the rest of us aren't traveling overseas with you.

        • -1

"You neg when it's a bad deal for everyone, not when it's a bad deal for you"

This is nonsense. If we only negged when it's a bad deal for everyone, then there would never be a neg. similarly, if we gave a positive only when it's a good deal for everyone, then there would never be a positive. No one will ever agree 100% because people value things differently.

Personally I don't see the value in getting an $800+ item shipped from hong kong to save $11. Added to this, I (and many others who use this site) have the ability to claim back GST. Therefore I don't think this is a good deal so I gave it a neg. As you situation is different, you obviously do. So, mark it positive, buy the iPad, and be happy you saved $11.

        • .

        • "This is nonsense. If we only negged when it's a bad deal for everyone, then there would never be a neg."

Not true. For example if the seller has a bad rep. Or if there were huge shipping charges the deal poster overlooked.

I don't think if another seller has it cheaper it should automatically get a neg, especially if it's still cheaper than many other places.

The way you go about it, everything should get a neg except the absolute cheapest deal.

You don't have to vote on every deal you know. If you don't consider something a good deal for you, you can always leave it blank. This price still beats Big W, JB, HN, DSE, and TGG (if you don't have a gift card). I don't think it deserves a negative.

"similarly, if we gave a positive only when it's a good deal for everyone, then there would never be a positive. No one will ever agree 100% because people value things differently."

I never said you had to give a positive ONLY when it's a good deal for everyone.

"Personally I don't see the value in getting an $800+ item shipped from hong kong to save $11. Added to this, I (and many others who use this site) have the ability to claim back GST."

Would you neg everything that is GST free? "Many" is a weasel word. What % of OZB users do you think is going to go on holidays in the next 3 months?

Where should we all buy iPads when TGG goes out of stock? I called yesterday at 9:00 and they only had 2 iPads left at my local store. Yesterday also happens to be the day the gift cards went on sale. I highly doubt any TGG would still have stock by now. I couldn't even get any from Big W. They've been out of stock everywhere I tried since they launched.

"As you situation is different, you obviously do. So, mark it positive, buy the iPad, and be happy you saved $11."

When you neg a deal, you're not saying "this deal doesn't suit me". It's there for everyone to see, so you're basically telling everyone else, this is a bad deal, even for you. But since you're going on holidays, this should be a negative instead of a neutral. I mean pretty much any deal that is online from out of AU should be a negative because you can't claim GST back.

  • And remember it's not Oz 4G either…..watchout Op those nasty ACCC types will be after you!

I bought the new iPad as a WiFi 16GB model for $498 from a retail store (BigW).

Don't know why most people would need anything other than the WiFi model. I didn't want to pay for an internet connection for my iPad. When I need external internet, I will just tether the iPad to my mobile phone.

I guess if you need it, then you need it. But I think most of us will prefer to avoid a monthly SIM card access fee.

As for the 64GB, its nice. I may find the 16GB limiting at some time in the future, but its been fine so far. I suspect by the time I need more, a new iPad will be out, and I'll be glad I didn't spend the extra $300+ on my current model.

    • +1

I agree, 64Gb is a lot, even if you watch movies.
tether to your phone and like you said save the $300, and use it to upgrade sooner to a new model.

      • If you are like me and like the portability of the IPAD for movies and clips, Mx Tube on jailbroken ipads quickly fill up your ipads with data. So we invested ion the 64Gb.

        • Sadly I don't think the 3rd gen will be jailbroken for a while yet

        • Well… the exploits needed have been found. It may not be as long as you think (unless Apple managed to come up with another firmware upgrade to patch the glitches really quickly again).

        • @iceduck312
IF you can jailbreak it, Then you won't need 64GB either.
you can get a $10 SD card adaptor from HK (or $30 for ozstock…lol )

and suddenly, you can have as many SD card as you want as expandable storage space.
Load your media into the card, watch them, enjoy then delete.

Apple has built the iPad primarily for media consumption and not as a final storage device. Your real storage should be in the computer.
you should only keep frequently used content in the iPad itself.

        • @superkieu - the cloud is there for storage ;-) but 30gb of pics and vids and 25gb of music has soon filled the ipad2 !

        • Ok here's why people buy 3G,
          1) Phone battery life while teathering is much shorter than iPad. So you'll have a 10 hour iPad with 2 hours of browsing time - pointless.
          2) Who wants to be stuck without a phone since battery has died?
          3) iPad data isn't very expensive, even with Telstra.
          4) The point of an iPad is instant on Internet, not enabling teathering on the phone, telling iPad to connect via Bluetooth/Wifi, and finally waiting for the connection.
          5) You won't get push notifications when phone isn't teathered.
          6) It's only a bit more expensive.

As for using the SD card for storage!? Seriously you got this sexy slim device and your going to walk around with an adapter everywhere? Wow.

    • 16gb does fill up quick when apps & games get bigger

    • 64 GB is a lot ! And the 4G cannot used in Australia.
I would said 16GB wifi is enough now
But might not be enough if the jailbreak comes out

      • Its still faster than standard 3G

    • "I suspect by the time I need more, a new iPad will be out"

Don't you mean The new new iPad?

  • I thought there was a tricky way of getting external storage on an Ipad - either via a cable adapter or wireless storage.
