Interested to see how they look in real life. $380 for a plastic quartz watch though…

Interested to see how they look in real life.
The same statement applies to the $10000 mechanical movement, both are overpriced

      • you should see Octo Finissimo Ultra…

        • Beautiful watch, especially with the GMT chrono version!

  • out of curiosity - do these guys usually sell out? or can you stroll in anytime on the day expecting to buy one?

    • +1

Based on what has been happening recently in the watch world I'm guessing it will sell out. A lot depends on how much they want to supply. I'm guessing you'l have a lot of younger buyers and watch collectors both vying for these so my guess is they will sell out pretty quickly. In the world of watch collecting $380 is throw away change.

It may not be a LE but if they control the supply and drive up the demand then it might as well be (look at SS Rolexes - they're not LE but good luck trying to get one at RRP without a purchase history (or with some models, even with a purchase history)

Personally I like the Mission to Mars because it looks a lot like the Alaska Project Speedies

    • +1

Saw a video of the line up at Chaddy… Safe to say every reseller was there this morning 😆

  • I had one of the earliest Swatch watches with this "sealed in" movement. It was a complete heap of rubbish, save your money.

It was a complete heap of rubbish, save your money.

Then why the dick are you upvoting?!?

  • +30

    Two things:

    1) These watches are not limited edition or production, so there is no rush to go in and buy one.

    2) This post is NOT a deal. At best, it belongs in the forum.

    • +4

      This.
They will also be re-stocked and available online soon according to Swatch themselves, so do not be tempted to buy from a flipper. Some parasites are already listing them on eBay for many times the RRP.

(Also don't line up for one tomorrow as I want to buy one)

      • Wish I could see the faces of people who pay extortionate prices only for it to be be attainable at retail later on down the track. Apparently these will be available online in the coming weeks.

    • yeah i started a forum thread on this yesterday https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/690459 , doesn't really fit a deal

  • +1

I'm really confused about these watches. They seem cheap for an Omega, expensive for a Swatch?

    • Swatch owns Omega, so they are probably trying to make younger people or people on a smaller budget more keen on Omega in their attemp to grasp market share over Rolex.

        • +5

          no.

      • Omega just got leap-frogged by Cartier for Swiss #2, so I'm hoping this strategy works for them. It's no different than the annual H&M collabs with Kenzo, Alexander Wang, or Balmain. People get a luxury label for a fraction of the price, both brands get video of long lines of hypebeasts and flippers, so it's win win.

    • +4

It's for people who either like the brand name but cant justify blowing 7K on a watch, or who like the design and don't care about the movement. It's nice but at this pricepoint, should consider the Bulova version as it actually is a moonwatch

      • +1

For those like you, these make perfect sense. A great way to get an iconic model at what is a ultra low price. If they become available at rrp for people to buy online or in Perth, I'll get a couple.

I do justify $7k for watches, yet it's my hobby. I have at least one friend who likes the Speedmaster enough to buy this Swatch-Omega but not $8k for the Omega.

    • This is a Swatch, using Omega's Speedmaster branding and case design. It is a Swatch, with a plastic+ceramic case, a cheap quartz movement that you find in their cheaper watches.

But the design and colours are more Omega than Swatch. I'm planning to buy 1 each for my children's graduation present. Being quartz, I won't need to shell out a $1000 servicing fee every 5 years that you need to do with a mechanical Omega.

      • -1

@ $380 a watch, that's $4180(11 watches) is a lot to spend on Swatch x Omega watches for each of your child which actually costs more than $1000 on servicing.

        • +2

They said 1 each not 1 of each.

      • Cheapskate get them the real deal or better yet a Patek Philippe

        • “You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation”

          • -7

            @ShoeyAU: I found your statement rather dumb….
buy a watch to be hung on the wall as souvenir??
            LOL

            • +3

              @thomalfa: It's a quote dude.

            • +2

@thomalfa: It’s literally their advertising motto, because you buy a Patek to pass down generations of your family. You sure as shit won’t see this swatch in 5 years time anywhere but Vinnies for $2

    • I'm equally befuddled by the cross-branding.

Looking forward to a Maserati x Jeep or Bugatti x Skoda next.

      • Check out the BRZ/86 then.

        • That's just a base platform that got pumped out as a mass-market Toyota and mass-market Subaru products. Equivalent brands in terms of consumer perception of exclusivity (IMHO). And they were not sold as the "Toyota x Subaru 86" or the "Subaru x Toyota BRZ"

          • @[Deactivated]: How about a Ferrari x Fiat for you then?

            • @PorkHunt: There is also the Aston Martin Cygnet. AM x Toyota

            • @PorkHunt: I'll take it! Do I just DM you my credit card details?

      • Quite common in fashion world to couple luxury with high street brands for collabs, eg. Balmain X H&M, Kaws X Uniqlo, or everything Yeezy.

        • Today I learned! Thanks for the education mate.

  • +1

i’d be curious as to the build quality and movement …… we’ve seen how cheap people can make copies of watches, so swatch with its manufacturing should be able to do better and at $380 there’s enough margin for them …..also that make lost of different should be better than a $100 watch …..might be worth a look to see if it over delivers for $380.

    • -1

guraranteed to under deliver for $380.

    • +2

I have owned Swatch watches since late 80's and they are still running like new. The plastics do not fade or turn yellow either. Polywatch removes all scratches from the face easily. Free battery changes for life is also a plus.

I recently bought a bio-ceramic watch from my visit to Sydney store and, as promised, doesn't let the wrist get sweaty during the summer (I live in Brisbane). My Swatch skinny is unbearable in the summer time.

  • +1

Good looking watch. What's the catch? Shitty movement?

    • Sealed quartz movement of unknown make/origin at this stage. Can replace battery but if the actual movement shits the bed then you won't be able to replace it

      • +2

Isn't it a Swiss movement? Presume that's a good thing?
They look nice on the website. Will be interesting to see what they are like in person

        • I have a 007 version of this sealed watch from maybe 20 years ago. I haven't worn it for about that time. I just ordered a battery - let's see if it will power up

      • It's a Swiss movement, Swatch's own. It has to be a Swiss movement, otherwise they are not allowed to use the "Swiss Made" statement on the dial, which is actually very strict (the movement must be made in Switzerland to qualify for Swiss Made), similar to the green Australian Made logo on our products.

      • It's an ETA movement, there is a symbol to indicate this on the caseback (the next line under FOUR 4 JEWELS).
ETA are one of the most well known watch movement manufacturers in history and make millions of the things, and are owned by the Swatch group.

        • +1

i have an old seamaster when they still did quartz versions not just automatic ….be interesting what the quality of the one in this speedmaster is like ….4 jewels might not be an issue in quartz as less moving parts that auto so don’t need as many jewels.

the bio ceramic case is a concern ….2/3 ceramic and the rest plastic made from castor oil …hence bio ceramic…… pity they didn’t make it in stainless but then you can’t due the colours …. might be fun but $380 ….

ohhh why has nobody mentioned it’s not sapphire crystal lens …original speedmasters were plastic lens ….hopefully at $380 it’s at least mineral glass.

          • @garage sale: I would only buy it if it was hesalite. Mineral glass or sapphire doesn't really look good for a domed crystal as it makes the outer edge white in colour. That's the reason I bought a 3572.50 instead of a 3573.50

  • +3

Not really a deal, its RRP

  • Idk I'm kinda intrigued by these, I'd need to see one in the flesh and see what the bioceramic material feels like but to me it seems like a possible deal. $380 though?? $200 and they'd probably have a guaranteed sale but I've been looking for a reasonable everyday watch for a while and at the same time I've been admiring the Omega Moonwatch??? Be interesting to see what these sell for in a year or so but if they have decent quality and don't fall apart I think they will find a nice little neiche in the market.
Not really a 'deal though' but thanks for posting none the less as I wouldn't have known otherwise, best in the forum's I think.

    • +1

Just be aware that this is NOT an Omega. It is a Swatch. It's a plastic case, with printed dials and a Swatch quartz movement. It's a great move to introduce the Speedmaster history/brand to the younger generation, but this is no Moonwatch.

Calling a Speedmaster Day Date a Moonwatch is closer than calling this Speedmaster MoonSwatch a Moonwatch.

    • This is not an everyday watch. 99% of these will be snapped up by hypebeasts and flippers and kept sealed. The included strap also looks somewhat flimsy. If you want a beater in this budget, get a Seiko, Citizen, etc.

  • +6

How is this a Bargain? It's at RRP and not even a limited release.

  • +3

BIOCERAMIC Moon-Swatch collection makes the iconic design accessible to fans everywhere.
Only available in selected Swatch stores as of March 26.
    Which one is it ?

    • Haha I just had a look and it seems there's only one store in Melbourne and one in Sydney?? Only select stores?

  • not a deal.. this is rrp. and watch is not limited edition.

better to buy the bulova moonwatch at this price point.

that said, I will pop up to one of the shops and see what it looks like in real life.

  • I like the watch(es), but this is not a deal whatsoever.

  • +1

    OzRRP

  • +3

Found a hands-on review of the Mars Watch but it also includes photos of the others so it might be the closest thing to what the colours look like in real life.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGQZWZP327c&ab_channel=Frate…

Found another one where the gentleman showcases each of the watches and it's uniqueness/details.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv_yvEKPW40&ab_channel=Revol…

  • How can non limited edition watchs sold at RRP be a bargain?

  • The hype train has left the station. These will sell out and then the resellers will have their way. With the crappy movement, it’s more of a gimmick really.

  • +3

Man, I have scrolled down through all the comments and must admit I am very disappointed in you all.

    Mission to Uranus!

I guess only my mind is in the gutter…

    • that's the one i clicked on first….then actually liked the colour scheme and will get one once it's available online :p

  • -1

    RRP is not a deal.

If swatch bothered putting in a mechanical movement these watches would almost be interesting.

    • It would have to be a chronograph mechanical movement plus be Swiss made to keep its Swiss made designation which would make it too expensive for a Swatch watch. Plus Swatch watches are supposed to be simple and maintenance free

  • I'm not a speedy owner but they should never have made the mission to the moon version. Keep the iconic Speedmaster black/white only for the real deal, and make the editions all colourful which they've done (except Mercury)

  • Quality of the watch doesn’t justify the $380 price tag. It’s a $100 swatch with a Omega logo. Ironically It’s almost like buying a fake. But I do get the marketing idea.

Btw, the Mercury Grey looks 🔥🔥🔥

  • RRP is not a deal.

  • OP probably is buying a few to sell and hopefully by posting it in OzBargain to get more exposure, it can increase the demand. /s

    • -5

      Absolutely! That’s how I make a living. You’re hilarious.
Plz check my earlier posts. If I see something that has value, I post. Value is different to different people.
Go watch Time & Tide YT channel videos abt this series, if you like.

  • Will go line up like sheeple and buy 1.

I'm interested to see how many watches available per store…

  • -1

If they were limited edition I would bite the bullet, however $380 is just a little too rich.

  • with the bulova you get more tech for the money but i can see this being a gateway for some people to get back into analog watches rather than smart watches.

hopefully starbuy do a killer deal on the bulova moon watch with stainless bracelet ….have the leather band one and it’s a nicely finished watch.

    • +1

The Bulova is so big though. Shrink it and I’ll buy one.

  • From what I can tell (I've owned a few swatches in the past)
This is about $100 over similar models in the Irony range, that appears to share the same movement (both 4 jewels)
So, sure, there is the novelty of the Omega co-branding.
Not limited editon, so you would hope that after the initial surge, there will be plenty to go around.
I'm still waiting for my g-shock casioak to come from Amazon UK.

    • I thought it was limited edition

  • -1

    Tachymetre or Tackymetre?

  • +1

    Not a deal

  • To piggyback, can any watch aficionados here recommend a good analogue watch for children who are into space, the moon and the solar system? Van Cleef & Arpels sell quite a few astronomy-inspired watches, but they're for adult wrists and a bit out of my price range.

    • Maybe an Orient Automatic Sun and Moon (Gen 5/Contemporary) around $260 delivered?

If you want smaller, the Women's Quartz Sun and Moon is around $210.

You can get some $3 NATO straps from AliExpress to fit children's wrists.

  • If anyone is going to the Chadstone store tomorrow please post how long the line is there so I can decide whether to pay them a visit or not.
I will do the same if I end up going

  • I'm taking a 1 hour train ride to Sydney store this morning, ready to be disappointed but my son loves the train trip so consolidation prize.

The good news is while I'm there I can not see all the Jordan shoes that the resellers have bought 30 pairs of 😜
Edit: scratch that, just saw a pic in one of my Facebook groups the line is 300 long in Sydney store

  • Wow ….over 1000 people in line in Chadstone ……don't bother …..luck I live 20 mins away and parking easy at 9 am ……only 10 people outside omega shop ……might get a free catalogue when I flash my Seamaster …… Omega shop closed opens at 10 I guess …..wow people waiting outside an omega boutique …..seems watches are back in fashion

    • +1

I don't think watches are back in fashion, its more hype never went out of fashion.

    • You heard of Rolex? Those are pretty popular, I think they make watches

    • Funny you say people are lining up at the Omega boutique, saw something similar at the Martin Place boutique at noon.

      • omega store had a set of the swatches in the window ….. people wanted closer look inside but was windows display only …..
