Free 5G Access for 6 Months on Telstra "Small" 40GB $55/Month Post Paid Plan @ Telstra

120

I've been on a Telstra "Small" mobile plan ($55p/m) for around 12 months and I got an SMS from Telstra today giving me free 5G access for 6 months. I assume this is targeted to Telstra customers with Small plans that don't automatically include 5G access.

Interesting - I didn't get a text, but this explains why my phone has suddenly started connecting to 5G over the past week. (I'm on a "small" business plan)

  • Can't complain, I am on Telstra prepaid $300pa and getting 5g. I think it was targeted back in the days.

    • im on Telstra pre paid $30/month and getting 5g too

      • Yeah I think the deal was I'd you recharge before a certain date, they will keep you on 5g.

I received the text on the 9th of March. A welcome upgrade however I feel like it should be included. I'm sure just like 4G it will be at some point.

100% agree - ousting people such as myself who will never need more than 80Gb shared data so stay on the lowest plan shouldn't be a reason to take away 5G on that plan.

It's kinda ridiculous and typical Telstra behaviour. Although 550Mbps I was getting the other day in the middle of Cockburn Central was stupidly impressive, once the 6 month trial ends and it drops back to 4G I would still not pay more to get the extra speed, I don't need it - and Telstra taking it away from the lowest plan (even though I have multiple devices on that plan so they actually make MORE money out of my business than the individual who DOES get 5G) is very, very, sucky….

Ngl I feel for $55/month there should always have been 5G included

    • +1

It really don't bother me, to be honest. There's never been a time while on 4G that I've wished things would happen faster…

      • Yeah but isn't the small plan only 3GB? For $55 a month?
        I don't have a use for 5G over 4G (yet) either but I feel that's a lot to pay for 4G

        • +1

No, it's 40gb + unlimited (shaped). All Telstra plans are a lot to pay.

          • -4

@wombat81: "Unlimited" being capped at 1.5mbps? If you're happy with that sure.

            • +1

              @decc0: I am. I wouldn't have bought it if I wasn't. I never use the 40gb.

              • -3

                @wombat81: Well if you never use the 40GB you won't know 1.5mbps speeds… 🤦

@decc0: You are all over this bro. You are exactly right. So it's something that's there in the unlikely event that I need it and so far I haven't needed it. If I was in that situation I'm pretty sure the 1.5mbps would be better than 0mbps, though. But what would I know?

                  Have a great weekend.

Wow did Telstra use to just cut off your service completely if you went over? No chance to top up your data at all? Next thing you'll be telling me there's no included international calls or messages 😂

Btw if you don't think there's any discernable difference between 4G and 5G why post it as a deal?

                    Yes, two can be petty.

Of course there's the option. Strange question. I don't get why your getting so hung up over this. Are you trying to make the point that Telstra is expensive? If so, that's not ground breaking news.

Next thing you'll be telling me there's no included international calls

No idea. I don't use international.

Just because I have no need for it doesn't mean others don't.

Lol I'm the one getting hung up? You're the one who first started using sarcasm and negs. I'm just enjoying the reaction tbh 😂

No one "needs" 5G. Certainly not yet at least.

      • There's never been a time while on 4G that I've wished things would happen faster

        Also impacts battery life.

Careful. Apparently we get down voted for having no need for 5g…

  • +4

honest question.. why would you need 5g ? 4g works fine for everything i do.. to download that 100mb file 1 second faster? or is it more to do with saturation.. or coverage…

    • +1

I have no specific use for it, no.

    • +1

5G is all of the above. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

      • +2

5G is Kayne? or Daft Punk?

    • Ideally, 5G would be as fast as your NBN (1Gbps), but in practice we are getting a lot less with either 5G or NBN.

  • Everyones going to be doing speed tests and get capped or charged more hahaha

  • Any vaccine shots included? /s

  • I think they are preparing to the day to turn off the 3G network.
    Evolution will never stop.
I was an early 4G odopter and 5G made me dump the fibre to house connection.
