      • Does it trigger you that there's no first amendment in Australia?

  • Fabulous, got 2

  • can we charge Tesla car battery with this solar panel ???

    • +1

Yes you can, the one in the hood!

    • Only ones that support trickle charge
The newer Kia/Hyundai models and newer ford models in USA. You can plug camping panels into it.

      5V at 1A would take you about a year…

      • wellllll, 160w at 12v is closer to 13A but yeah it's still gonna take a while.

        • wellllll, 160w at 12v is closer to 13A

The product description says that the output is 5V @ 1A

@1st-Amendment: I think that would be for the USB ports.

A base Tesla has a 60kWh pack, so (ignoring losses) would take nearly 16 days of 24/7 sunlight to charge. In reality (you know, with the sun not being in the sky at night) you would be looking at 2 or so months to charge the Tesla pack. And you couldn't do it directly from the panel, you would need a buffer battery in-between (lead acid or li-ion) and an inverter to plug the EVSE into.

    • If you calculate how long it would need to fully charge it, you would probably be disappointed.

OP might want to update post, Garden City (WA) has heaps - at least 20.

  • Can I put 10 on the roof for solar powered house?

    • Lego house maybe

Do these have the overnight charging feature that Anthony Albanese was talking about?

No need in NSW - too cloudy :(
Buy coal-powered alternatives, unless you find cheap Russian petrol supply ;)

  • Any recommendation to charge mobile phone?

Saw these in-store on Sunday, didn't have a price on the shelf and thought they must be reduced by now but price-checked at $100. Guess I was a day or so too early. (Probably a good thing, already have a couple of 120Ws which are doing the job but probably would have bought anyway :D)

    This..

  • Oh this is a pain, my daughter bought one on Sunday and paid $100.
She intends to use it when she goes out for weekends in her Kombi, mainly to charge her phone and give light at night.
So does she just need to buy a 12 volt battery and box and connect to that ?

    • Yes, although they are typically 100ah ish so will be heavy. Good thing is probably more than enough power for what she needs. Can probably power a small laptop too. Something like this
      https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/adventure-kings-agm-deep-cy…

Eventual upgrades are getting a panel mounted on the roof and also a dc to dc charger so battery charge when she’s driving but that’ll add on to cost.

  • Could I possibly use something like this to run some LED strip lights in my little shed at the back of my property?

I have a small little shed and hate my little camping light I have out in it but don't know where to start to turn it into a well lit area.

I have something similar (bought from eBay for around $150) connected to two 100ah deep cycle batteries in parallel and a 1kw sine wave inverter as a power source for the garage. I have also replaced the regulator with an MPPT unit (around $60 from eBay back then).

The panels are mounted on the garage roof for over a year now and is stil powering the lights and chargers in the garage. I was planning to drive the garage door opener with that but never got around setting that up.

So, in a nut shell, it is possible with suitable battery and inverter.

I have a similar one (looks identical) but 120w which I attached to the roof of my garden shed, which is waaaaay down the back of my yard away from my house.

I use it in conjunction with a lead acid battery for internal lighting in the shed, external flood lights over our veggie patch, and a string of coloured festoon lights around our fire pit. Been working fine for around 6 months now without me touching it.

160W… Is that Australian WATTS or Chinese wats….

  • so can i hook this up to my house aircon to run from the solar batteries?

    • +3

I am using it to power the entire city.

      • sweet, how do you do that, is it inverted back into the power grid?

  • Still 5 on the shelves in Garden City (WA)

  • Chur bro sweet as deal I just picked up 2 at Belmont today. Chur OP much appreciated bro

  • How much time required to break even?

    • if you use it for camping (it is portable) then you cannot really compare it to paying for power from the grid. If there is no grid, who can you pay?
