  • Not cheapest so far. Sorry. Can't seem to edit the deal on my phone.

better to buy 980 pro at this price point

True except that the 980 pro needs a firmware update, inconvenient for non-PC users. I think this is a decent deal for PS5 owners who don't want to have to mess with firmware upgrades or adding a 3rd-party heatsink. PC users should go for 980 pro.

      • According to the SSD benchmarks WD Black has the best performance, any specific reasons to go with 980Pro?

        • Runs a little cooler

        • Cheaper, and performance differences won't be noticeable in real-world applications.

      • What's the firmware update about/for? I have a 980 pro in my PS5 I bought in October last year.

more reliable, fixes known issues,, improves ssd auto trim.. the normal reasons for firmware updates

I've received many of these updates for all my SSD's over the years.. I've also had/have SSD's I've never bothered to update any firmware on and they still work fine today… :)

They are a little like motherboard and videocard bios updates.. if they work well now with no issues then they will probably continue to work well in the future.

If you were ok to "maybe" losing all the files saved on the samsung drive you can take it out of the PS5 put it inside a PC as a second drive install Samsung magician software and update it.

The reason i bother updated anything in my PC is the potential for performance gains and reduced power usage… :) Graphics drivers give you the most
Oh and if i have issues that need fixing.

it unlocks the 7000mbps speeds on the 980 pro if you don't have it you will only get 5500mbps

  • Already seen 384 for 2 TB

    • That's without the heatsink

      • Sorry for the newbie question. Is it possible to place it to usb enclosure with heatsink?

  • good for PS5 this but if you have a motherboard that has its own built in heatsink and fan for nvme drives this is not good for that.

    • can you just remove it or not use the motherboard bracket?

      • if it lets you remove the current built in heat sink on the WD nvme drive then I can use the motherboard heatsink and fan which is way better.

its a dual heatsink system for dual NVME drives. Also you can buy the cheaper verison of this drive with out a heatsink designed for pcs that have built in heatsinks and fans on teh motherboard.

  • The 2TB is 40% off. Ended up buying that. yes the one without the heatsink is $388. However, if you're getting the Sabrent heatsink, that ships from US, where this ships from the UK. So you end up paying I think it was about $18 shipping for the Sabrent. Searched Ebay for a heatsink, all coming from China pretty much.

At $424 for the 2TB, got it without the hassles.

  • I'm curious. Why would you get this over say the Samsung 980 Pro NVMe 1TB for slightly less money?. That's $228.90 delivered and is also Australian stock.
