This is a really good price for a homebrand product which is usually an everyday low price $2.80. Coles equivalent, always $2.80 as per Pricehipster.

$0.06/10g. The Masterfoods equivalent is $4 for 160g ($0.25/10g).

Ingredients
Red Chilli (93%), Rapeseed Oil, Sugar, Acidity Regulators (330, 260), Salt, Natural Colour (Paprika Extract)

Store in a cool, dry place. Refrigerate after opening.

      Not sure why the downvotes. I will also always avoid a Chinese made food, if I can (sometimes a particular product is only in China, so it's difficult).

      There food production practices can leave a lot to be desired. Even in China, internationally sourced foods are very popular, for this very reason. E.g. baby formula.

        They will manufacturer whatever you want to whatever standard you want. If you pay them enough they can even make iphones!

          They are responsibly maximising profits.

          If there was a choice of Chinese chillies and, say, Thai chillies, the choice would be a no brainer for me. And I'd pay more for Australian chillies too.

          It's not only about a machine chopping chillies, it's about how and where those chillies where grown, including the water sources used to water them.

              Not going to kill you, but I would prefer to pay a little more for something that is probably cleaner.

              • @Aureus: is it all sounds very nasty, and it probably is if you consume too much, but you also have to realize the dose makes the poison. if you eat a few jars of crushed chilli its probably not going to add up to anything meaningful

                also i'm unsure what the you mean by the link to the map, is it that its too close to residential districts?

                meanwhile if you are a heavy consumer of rice you probably want to stay away from Australian rice(as an example)

                • @abctoz: Very true. For some sauces etc the only option is Chinese made, so for that I would buy the Chinese product. But I would avoid Aldi made in China tomato paste, as there are plenty of non-chinese options.

                  The map link shows farms close to industrial areas. There are lots of farms right next industrial areas in China and China has a whole lot of industry.

                  I am aware of the arsenic issue with Rice and I take steps to reduce arsenic.

                    what's wrong with the tomato paste lol, i've been eating it, the ones from China are cheap and tasty, from Xinjiang iirc so should be ok…

                    • @abctoz: Australia does have standards, but they are not testing everything possible thing on every shipment in. Also if a shipment of Ginger comes in to the country, it may be the output of multiple farms, so can't really say if everyone is playing by the rules.

                      I would rather pay the extra. Obviously even with Italian tomato paste, you can't be certain that the tomatoes weren't grown on some old Mafia illegal waste dump or something. So outside of growing your own and doing all of the work on land you know the history of, there is no way to be completely certain.

                        but take something like garlic, you used to be able to get a pack of 8 bulbs from China for $1-2
                        now it costs $1 for 1 bulb lol

          • @bboz: and I'm guessing as I saw in China the $#it from open latrines was collected for use by local farmers - so any risk of cholera ? We hope not but hey if it's cheap it may not be good.

    Buy seeds and make your own chillies. I started with an old chilli ready to chuck out from the fridge. I put it in the ground instead. Took 2 years to establish big chilli bushes with lots of fruits all year around. They just grow on the sunny side outside of the house. I’m doing my own powder now and everything else to preserve them.

      Im constantly trying to get people to grow them. Growing them is easy if you dont have pests to deal with. I cant grow many because the possums eat them, the plant not the chillies. At least I was able to get the possums to stop trying to eat their way into my roof by rubbing Carolina Reapers all over the edge of the roof, they didnt seem to like that ;p.

      • I wasnt aware of that, i have a number of possums both ringtail and brushtails and they never touch the chilli bushes. 2 of the possums are tame and come in every night for a pat. The problem i have is the bower birds have a field day on the pods.

          Damn your lucky, I have to grow them in cages because I cant do a green house where I live.

          • @PAEz: I have a stack of native trees on the property, so it's probably just there's a lot of food available the possums prefer over the chilli bushes. I throw vegetables scraps around the base of the chilli plants, and the possums will munch that but don't seem to ever touch the bushes.

            The bower birds though will put holes in the pods a day before they are ready, and wont eat a whole pod. They are jerks and would rather just put holes in every pod lol.

      • Can confirm via 3rd party - hope I don't get banned for this.. but made jalapanos poppers one day, wife and I had some, erm.. 'fun' while waiting for them to cook. Let's just say she was extra hot that day, somehow I avoided all pain.

  • It costs $1.40 here. Imagine how much it would cost in China. (The cost of shipping from China must cost more than the actual ingredients).

  • Just buy the fresh ones in the fruit & Veg section and keep them in the freezer next to your garlic , yes they can be frozen so easy to cut when frozen too and with a decent knife you can finely chop the chili and bust the seeds open which gives you maximum heat …….. Love my chilies

  • Don't chill flakes work out cheaper? You also avoid all the fillers.
