HBO Max - Standard Plan, 1 Year Subscription A$68 (Brazil VPN Required)

800

Credit to the previous poster - sorry the deal got unpublished!!

Managed to get this to work using VPN via Brazil. I couldn’t get it to work via Argentina for some reason (it would just hang on the payment screen). To obtain this deal:

  1. Log in to Brazil via your VPN (note - PIA seems to be blocked. I had success with Surfshark)
  2. Go to HBO Max website and subscribe to the standard plan
  3. Enter your payment details.
  4. Note, Brazil requires something called a CPF number - I generated one using this site - https://www.generatormix.com/random-cpf-generator

That should be all that you need. You will need a Smart DNS to view any content - easy if you have one of those lifetime subscriptions to get Getflix.

For Android users - you will need to side load the app
For iOS users - you will need a US iTunes account to download the app - here are some instructions (https://www.crn.com.au/news/how-to-download-us-apps-in-austr…) - I haven’t personally tried these instructions as I created a US iTunes account a few years ago.

Confirmed obtainable. Managed to install it onto my iPad!

  • What shows are under HBO Max?

  • +2

What’s the point of this deal if we can’t get the HBO max app in australia ?

    • +3

You can. You just need a US iTunes account if you are a iOS user or you can easily side load the app if you are an Android user.

      • +16

too hard basket for me. Maybe this should be mentioned in post to avoid confusion. I was 5 seconds away from subscribing before I thought about checking the App Store first.

        • +6

Sure - I’ve updated the post to mention that.

    • +2

Took me less than 3 mins to find, download and sideload on NVIDIA shield pro

      • -1

can this app load into those Android boxes for TV ?

        • What do you mean? Nvidia Shield Pro is an Android Box for TV.

Do you mean, can it be loaded onto android TV OS within the TV?

          • +1

@WallybR: can the HOBMAX app load to android TV BOX ?

            • @ssd01: What box do you have and I can find out.

It should be fine to sideload the HBO Max APK onto any Android TV box.

            • -1

@ssd01: Yes. That's what WallybR said twice now. You can load any android APK file onto any android tv box, as long as the android APK version is compatible with the Android version on your android box, which most likely it will be.

      • Has anyone tried casting from the HBO Max app on Android to a Chromecast?

        • not possible, as you have to be on VPN to watch a show on mobile, and with VPN you cannot cast.

  • +1

    Obligatory, what about Hbo Median?

    • HBO Min only

  • +1

This worked for me, sort of. $68.05 from my VISA card. They took my money easily enough…

But actual playback is: "Can’t Connect" - "We’re having issues connecting to HBO Max right now. Please try again."

I did get it working once, but the streaming was poor quality despite using the fastest NordVPN connection to Brazil. I suppose that the Brazilian HBO servers are getting slammed with the sale right now. I'll try again another day.

    • +2

Try using a US server, haven't had any issues streaming with US.

  • +3

I thought binge was the equivalent of HBO max in Australia?

    • +4

Not really, especially when it comes to pricing

    • +3

Binge is HBO's partner in Australia, HBO Max shows here kinda get auctioned off between Binge and Stan. For example, Binge got And Just Like That, Peacemaker, the Snyder cut for Justice League and the Harry Potter special while Stan got Hacks, Minx, Station Eleven, Love Life, Made for Love and That Damn Michael Che.

    • +4

Binge have less, cost more and offer zero 4k options as they are owned by Foxtel. Foxtel exclusively ensure they only offer 4k content to their Foxtel IQ customers who are on a contract. Not even Foxtel now offer 4k. In 2022 it's very poor decision making and the consumer loses. They'll change it eventually when they realise contract options and hardware are obsolete

    • +2

Bing is shit, expect 1080p for most and stereo sound only!! Stereo sound in 2022, what a joke.

  • I currently pay through the US Play store at $20/month, but it works through Apple TV and Surfshark on the tv - would this account still work through Apple TV or is a DNS required over surfshark?

    • It'll be the same. SurfShark is your VPN +DNS

  • What VPN do you guys use on Android TV to access it? I tried few months ago with Nord VPN but it mostly wasn't working or was very slow. Works fine on the laptop though

  • Thanks.

    Is this still around?

easy if you have one of those lifetime subscriptions to get Getflix.

  • Does HBO max have more shows than are on Binge or Foxtel?

    • +3

Yes, a lot more and with better quality picture and sound!

  • How many family members can you share this with

    • +1

in their, us website says "Personalized streaming for up to 5 profiles"

  • +2

I was able to sign up via the Argentina website. Cost me $69.26.

Signed up using an Argentinian VPN. Confirmed able to stream using a US VPN.

    • +1

Do you know why they took the Argentinian post down? I had it open and suddenly it said unobtainable deal. Is it no longer working?

      • +2

Shady staff decisions, discouraging people from sharing.

This deal was great before, and great now.

    • Me same. Not sure why the $A worked out to be more than the 3499 pesos equivalent. The email stated the total charge would be this. It did contain the disclaimer "Additional taxes applicable in your country are not included in the gross amount, and will be reflected on your card statement" so maybe that's why.

Can confirm streaming perfectly from US servers using SmarrDNS proxy.

      • Not sure either. Maybe the original price of $43 was unobtainable??

        • I asked the same question in the forums, where the post has now moved to - link.

Removed because price changed.. Argentina charges 65% online purchase tax.

Now I'm wondering if that will effect my YouTube sub…

        • +2

They updated with the shared info. The deal simply needed the title updated.

          Staff: nah, bin it.

  • Which smart DNS service are you guys using? Thanks

    • +2

Getflix. Works ok. Might try dns4me. Has good reviews on whirlpool. Seems to be regularly maintained

    • +1

I’m using TorGuard, as I got a mad deal years ago & they have an app available on Android without sideloading or messing around.

      • I want to use a smart DNS service my LG TV. Getflix seems to allow routing to servers in different countries which is beneficial to access content. I check TorGuard and NordVPN. Both have a smart DNS service but with servers located only in the US. I am unable to use VPN on TV.

        • you could consider a cheap android TV device to get around some of the LG TV OS restrictions.

          • @blues99: Would Chromecast work?

            • @stockastics: Mine works but it takes some fiddling (block hard coded dns on chromecast via router and possibly force chromecast to use private dns - both relatively easy though)

            • @stockastics: yes I tried an it works fine

          • @blues99: Or mini router, like Mango

        • What makes you say they only have USA?

          https://nordvpn.com/servers/
          https://torguard.net/network/

          • @Ulysses31: For smart DNS there is only one IP address.. for VPN they have worldwide

            • +1

@stockastics: For dedicated “streaming IPs” Torguard have many countries, like UK, Italy, Spain, France, Japan etc. that’s the product I got.

Their website is clunky as hell, even after 5 years of using them

  • +1

I thought streaming was meant to be convenient and or cheaper

    • What do you suggest is better?

  • +2

Don't know what a smart DNS is or what side loading the App means. Have to get a millennial to explain it so me.🤣🤣

    • +1

Smart DNS: send your devices requests via preferred country - so it appears your in that country. Only clicks are re-routed, not entire video traffic.

Side load: an app isn’t available via GoolePlay, so you download it from another website & install in manually

  • Question I have surfshark, is that enough or is there something about dns I need to get too?

    • They offer smart DNS too included. I haven't been able to work it successfully on any of my devices though.

    • Surfshark only has dns servers for the US

    • i believe it depends on you exact setup - i eventually got mine working on chromecast with google tv using surfshark app (Houston server), plus blocking the hardcoded chromecast DNS serves on the router, and using private DNS (open dns) on the chromecast and router (not sure if these last steps are necessary) but without a smart dns provider anywhere

      • Interested on how you did it. I couldn't do it on my pfsense. Do you happen to have a guide on how you did it? Surfshark's instructions aren't the clearest.

        • Yep can which part in particular?

        • +1

Follow this for private dns (not Google dns) on chromecast
          https://www.reddit.com/r/MiBox/comments/nas04z/how_to_set_up…
Use open dns over tls address "dns.opendns.com"

Also block dns on your router using this
Add an entry in the advanced routing by clicking the add button. Make sure the setup looks like this:
          Destination IP Address: 8.8.8.8
          Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Default gateway: The IP of Ur router (normally 192.168.1.1)
          Status: Enabled
Please repeat the steps above for the destination IP 8.8.4.4

Also you may need to add open dns as the default dns on your router but not sure this is needed.

          Hope helps

  • So you need to watch via a VPN too (not just for sign-up)?

    • +1

Yes, HBO Max isn't available in Australia.

    • +2

      VPN or Smart DNS

      • +1

Help me understand if this would work:

        • purchase this deal via VPN to Brazil
        • on PC connect to US with NordVpn, go to hbomax.com, login and start watching.
        • for Android TV download the HBO max app from apkmirror.com, install it on TV by sending the APK file via Send Files app, connect to US vpn on TV and start watching.
        • +1

Can all be done on android device, iOS device, AndroidTV etc.

        • +1

I was considering the same, NordVPN, sideload app onto CCwGTV and want 4K/Atmos.
Seems like a lot of effort still, every time you want to watch something (assuming it all works).
$5 a month could be worth a go I suppose.

          • +1

@G-rig: Bit of a stuff around, took long enough to get the APK file installed on Google TV
(don't think the files transfer app could see the GTV with ethernet plugged in), Install APK works ok..
Nord VPN is a pain these days always logging you out and re-directs to the webpage to log in.

Edit: all working on Google TV, tested a free show on the United States server with NordVPN running
(HBO Max: Stream TV & Movies (Android TV) 52.10.0)

            Confirming CDC visa card works.

  • +1

    Is nordvpn sufficient?

    • Yes, currently using nordvpn without any problems.

  • +1

Can’t be arsed. I’ll stick to using the nvidea shield for all my illegal needs

  • So,the yearly plan in the US is $69.99 > $93.32 AU (?).

    • Title shows Australian Dollarbucks

  • Mine not working google chromecast with Google tv, open dns, side load apk and surfshark on device, any tips? (this setup works for Netflix, paramount etc)

    • Chromecast and other googletv ones have embedded the DNS as google DNS, to overcome that In your router you need DNS hijack or you need to put static routes in your router for 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to where u configure ur dns. DM if you need more details,, spend fair bit of time to get it going :)

      • Thanks for replying I blocked those on my router already and used the private dns setting on chromecast to change it to open dns - my problem was not trying enough surfshark servers - Ieventually found one to work thanks to another poster.

  • Can I pay in BRazil and watch from US?

    • +2

      Yes

    • +1

You could, but it's a long way to go.

  • Can confirm it works with Getflix Smartdns and Surfshark Latham, Kansas City and Houston.

    • Can u get 4k via getflix..

      • Don't know, don't have a 4k tv.:)

    • Thanks so much for this - was pulling my hair out and the Houston server finally worked - clearly not all surfshark USA servers work.

    • Confirmed with TorGuard & Citibank debit.
Watching Dune in 4K on 85”… without torrents!

      • Hi mate. Are you using the native app for your TV to stream 4K? I am using the app via amazon firetstick 4k and my streams never seem to pass 1080p.

I usually use Getflix but tried dns4me and same result.

        Any idea?

        • I got 4K with fire stick 4K on my Sony tv..

          • @Kooratz: Are you using VPN or smart dns? Which provider do you use? Not sure what I could be doing wrong or what settings I need to change. I have 1gpbs internet and the Firestick connects to the faster 5Ghz wifi network at home.

            • @ttlooshan: Using Nordvpn and only 100 Mbps fttn, 5 GHz wifi.

              • @Kooratz: Hmm. Something must otherwise be up then. I wonder what else I can check.

        • Native app.

          I've also got Mibox 3 & Shield 2019 (tube)… I'll try at some point.

          • @Ulysses31: Update: Mibox 3, Shield, Android TV (Sony native OS) all work fine. Sideloaded. Torguard as the VPN/DNS

    • Weird. I cant get past the profile page via surfshark….seems to be the vpn

      • You're stuck because not using Latham, Kansas City or Houston? If still an issue, delete HBO cookies, then close and restart browser.

        • Im trying via VPN app on ipad and yes, i was using Houston server.
