Unsure whether the $150 difference between the 1016Tu and 1008Tu is worth it, difference is i5 vs i3, 200mHz faster.Considering the dm4-3011TX it has a better processor but a HDD rather than a SDD. Or is it better to wait for Ivy Bridge and Windows 8? Any advice would be apprecaited.

Helps if you link to where the folio's are
    http://dicksmith.com.au/computers/ultrabooks-hp
From reviews I've seen, IB is only ~5% more powerful than Sandy clock for clock, though there will be some power savings. Waiting for Win 8 means waiting till the end of the year, afaik no actual release date has been set.

  • This is a pretty good deal but the posting is written in a way that means it's getting no votes…

    • +1

Should reverse 25-10% to show 10-25% and should be sweet.

  • Some good deals at 25% off. +1

  • very good deals on the Folio.
I have a Folio and my FIL has dm4, the Folio keyboard feels much better.
    With the same screen resolution.
I like the battery life and weight of Folio.
and the speed of SSD - win 7 boots up in no time at all

  • Is this alright? Or is is worth spending a little more?

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC7960/15-6-quot-satellite-c… ( $447 )

    • I'd get this (same price, similar specs) because of the USB3.0 ports. RAM can be cheaply added.

EDIT For some reason the DSE page has it listed as Core 2 Duo. It isn't, it's a Pentium B940 (Core i3 based).

      • Thanks. I'll have a look. I had previously ruled it out when I saw 'core 2 duo'.

  • Should be $710 if you pricematch at Officeworks too for the Folio 13-1016TU

DV6 6B02TX looks like a good deal at $597 too, although I think Officeworks had them for a touch over $600 the other week.

    • no stock near Melbourne
      anywhere else got stock?

    • is their a big difference between an i7 processor and an i5?

    • is an i5 enough though to run games like bf3?

      • The graphics card is the bigger problem. At 1366x768 you'll probably get around 20-25fps.

        • the graphics in that system is top notch though, for a laptop anyway

        • No. It's not in the same league as top notch.

A 6970m will get around 55-60fps with the same CPU.

    • got a DV6 6B02TX today. ….just hope 1G 6770 grapics with i5 can run diablo 3.

      • it will :D Diablo 3 is gentle

  • i got the folio i3 from HN with $300 rebate~$696 last week, although prob waiting 4-6 weeks for rebate cheque.

V.good computer, very quick boot, nice keyboard, backlit, but screen has poor vertical viewing angles. It would also be a pain to upgrade as you have to really pull it apart to change ssd or ram, not that it is needed at present.
I like the folio, nice little laptop, no regrets.
DM4 might be good as well.

  • well if u keep waiting the next generation of processors, ull never get anything….

  • how much is the cheapest xps13? hmmm but should i wait for ivy bridge upgrade?

    when does this bargain expire?

    • +3

just before u decide to buy one. well thats what happens with me atleast

Just tried to check the redemption of the beats headphone and found out the redemption for the Folio is over (last day of purchase was 30th April, 2012) So make sure that's not the reason you buy this machine.
Please correct me if I'm wrong about that.

    • Wow , I just got my BEATS, did not know I was cutting so close

    • +1

yep seems that the promo period for some products ends 31st July but the others are 30th April. With the Folio being in the latter. See the list here
OP should update the post. the beats would have been the thing to push this deal over the line for me…

  • Regarding the graphic card listed for dv6 (radeon 6770m)

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1634963&u…

I read one saying its top notch and the other disagreeing above. Which one is true?

    • For a laptop of this price it's pretty good, the 3d mark scores i looked at suggested it was a third as good as the top of the line graphics cards found in desktops and top of the line laptops. I believe this card can run star craft 2 at high, diablo 3 and bf3 on lowish settings

    • It's OK. It's fine. It's a good mid-level gaming chip. In this machine BF3'll get 20+fps at 1366x768 on medium quality. But you can down the resolution and quality settings and get better results. It's just not top notch.

  • when does this expire?

    • nevermind.. it says "expires on 6/5"

  • trying to decide between these for a friend:

i'm liking the DV6-6027TV or the N55SF.. although the DV6-6135TX seems like good value

  • I'd probably go with the Asus but that's largely because I prefer their design. The 6135TX is definitely good value.

    • i decided to check out what JB has to offer.. and they're all ripoff atm =\

one Acer deal caught my attention though, granted the price isn't that great for the specs but the Ivy Bridge cpu and GT640M is interesting

      $932.45 Acer 15" (exact model # not listed): i7-3610QM/4GB/750GB/2GB GT640M/DVD±R/RW http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/acer/15-inch-notebook-sku…

      • Thats a pretty good price for a new gen cpu notebook. Also (according to your link http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark…) it performs better than both the GT555m and ATI6770m GPUs.

      • that looks like a very good deal! 400 points better on the 3d mark score compared to the radeon 6770m! Is it Ivy bridge as well? does 200 bucks extra justify all the extras?

      • i think its this one though http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/model/NX.RZNSA.001 says its only a second gen cpu rather then 3rd gen which is on jb site

        • cheers for that

          but yeah it's a typo.. i7-3610QM = IVY :)

just got this in email from dell.. very very very interesting!

        $898.70 Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition: i7-3612QM/6GB/1TB/2GB 7730M/DVD±R/RW http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=v51066…

        hmmmmmmmmmmmm 7730M vs GT640M & 3612QM vs 3610QM

        • I can't find any benchmarks for the 7730m! Also how does the 3612QM compare?

          3610QM: 2300MHz Turbo boosted to 3300MHz @ 45W
          3612QM: 2100MHz Turbo boosted to 3100MHz @ 35W

everything else the same (except for the socket)

no benchmarks for the 7730M yet but according to http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7730M.72678.0.htm… "The performance should be between the DDR3-versions of Nvidias GeForce GT 650M and 640M"

hmmmm…. i like this Dell.. just hate that they still haven't put a numpad on any of their 15" lappies :P

        • This dell machine is indeed value for money if the gpu is as good as you say it is. I went into JB and they said the best they could offer me for the acer machine above was $885

        • +1

JB offered me $740 for the Folio 1016TU. Missed out on headphones though.

  • Saw this in the shop, though I didn't see it on the site. Is it worthwhile? Seems similar to the 288 laptop. Might be worth checking out for the people who missed out?

    http://imgur.com/IMhEs

  • Why, are the machines with terribly low resolutions advertised as HD?
Can anyone find one with a decent resolution?
