If you zoom the pic of the lady you will be shocked, don't blame me its the photographer's fault :)

are you sure the cashback will work on a different domain as its bigwphotos.com.au not just bigw.com.au ??

    huzzah if it will!

    • +1

      I have the same thoughts.

Shopback notorious for not tracking rewards for the tiniest of reasons…

      • +2

Well this isn’t tiny, it’s likely a good reason.

    • Doesn't look like it. If you click through (currently only 3% CB) the store categories don't include the photo centre.

      • @Gotyourback. Can you confirm?

        • +1

GYB has confirmed it here that bigwphotos.com.au is a different domain and won't be receiving the 30% cashback

          • @BargainsGrabber: Thanks @bargainsgrabber I couldn't reply earlier due to the post not having ShopBack tagged.

      • But you can get there through the Shopback Android app - click Big W in the app, then scroll to the bottom of the page, under About BigW.
If it's via the app it should work shouldn't it? Photos isn't in the list of exclusions.

        • If it is redirecting to other domain, it won’t track, affiliate marketing doesn’t work like that.

          • +1

@mountains: Can confirm that mountains is 100% correct here :)

Are these the sort of thing that are "always on sale", or is $230 what you really would normally pay for this?

    • +2

They're routinely on sale. Keep meaning to pull the trigger on a bunch of prints during the past few sales.

    • you'd be nuts to buy a bigw canvas for 230.
like going to mcdonalds to buy caviar

  • +3

These things are pretty good. They come up for sale a lot.

I've gotten two. Not this size though, the one linked is ultrawide.

One was an old masterpiece, just get the largest res version online. And the other a black and white picture that i then painted over the top of the canvas. Looks kinda cool.

The only criticism is the wood used is rather thin. More expensive frameless canvas has more solid wood. Maybe these won't last very long.

But these are a bargain option for making your house a bit nicer.

I had 6 of these 100x50cm prints made nearly 4 years ago for work to show off some of our installations. They've been through several moves and weren't treated well - not wrapped and loosely flung together in a box for transit. They've held together well, no frame twisting or warping, and the colours don't appear to have degraded.

I can't vouch for these later versions as materials may have changed but, if they haven't, then I'd recommend them. Just be aware that you'll lose about 30mm of the edge of your image as it wraps around the side of the frame.

      • +1

You know why? You must use photoshop to prepare your photo before printing. 7 cm needs to be added to the width and the height of the photo ( 3.5cm each side for the depth of the frame). There is an instruction for you. It's really helpful.

I picked the canvas 50cmx100cm last week. It's perfect, high quality print.

Shopback Chrome Plugin doesn't pop up with anything at the URL so I'm going to guess it wont track.
(sorry, was meant to reply to sub-thread above about SB)

  • Anyone used big W as well as the more specialised printing places and can compare quality and value between the two?

    • +2

I have some from cheap canvas prints, some from a place I can’t remember and some from Big W. I’m not a huge fan of the satin canvas they (Big W) use. Matte canvas makes hanging them much easier as you get zero light reflection. We have one we bought from somewhere online and it’s awful for reflections. Maybe pop into Big W to see if they have anything on display and decide for yourself.

    • +1

I haven't ordered any prints in years so could be old info, but I've had these Big W ones and some done by "DG Canvas" and the latter were definitely better looking; seemed sharper if you walk up to it. But to be fair maybe it's deliberate too, like different styles of canvas print? The Big W ones do feel like they've got more "ink" (or pigment, or whatever the term is) on them. The price difference wasn't that much, and I'd rather pay the extra getting the aspect ratio I want.

Not affiliated or anything. From memory only gave them a go initially from an OzBargain post lol.

    • Yes I have a few years ago. Not sure if all bigw use the same suppliers. The colors aren't quite accurate & quality of bigw are as you'd expect from bigw. I mean like buying anko stuff from kmart. As soon as you pick it up and touch it you can feel it's cheap stuff. The material is uninspired. Yes there are types of canvas, it's not all the same.

Think a 4x6 print from somewhere, vs one from your inkjet printer on plain paper.

If you've never seen a 'nice' canvas I'm sure you'll be happy enough. If you've had a specialised one, you'll notice right away.

Pricewise it's not a bargain at regular price. At sale price I duno, may as well just get a generic ikea artwork.

  • Can't seem to find that info, what's the minimum resolution for a great outcome?
Apparently I currently shoot my pics with pixel 3 as
    8.3MP 2160 x 3840 1.2 MB

    • +1

Canvas is more tolerant of lower resolution than a straight photo print. As you as you don’t go massive, you should be fine.

    • +1

I had 6 of these made with image resolutions between 1.8Mb (3568 x 1784 pixels) and 2.9Mb (4854 x 2427) after sharpening and contrast adjustments. The sharpness and detail couldn't be better even on highly detailed aerial photos as the graininess of the canvas weave doesn't allow perfection.

Someone above mentioned that the satin finish is too reflective but I've never noticed that in a very bright fluoro-lit office environment. I will now check for it so I can have that 'what's seen can't be unseen' moment.

    • +1

I’ve always found my photos get downsampled when uploading to these canvas print websites. Monitor your data uploaded when uploading. When I upload 40MB 25MP photos they upload quickly with only about 1.5M of data being transferred. Canvas prints still look great, but I don’t think they really need high resolution for a good result. Guess they need to save on data storage costs.

  • +3

I just thought I would mention an idea of what to do with these, a few years ago I got one of these in landscape and got the dark knight trilogy posters and put side by side

Print quality looks amazing and is such a nice addition to my theatre room

Photobookshop have 75cm x 100cm canvases for $59 (incl. delivery) as their normal price. 50cm x 100cm is $54 (incl. delivery).

    https://www.photobookshop.com.au/voucher

We have three of them up at home….no complaints. They look great to me.

    • +2

$10 off first order too apparently.
This + true free delivery, that looks better than OP to me

    • How do you see those prices on that page? I don't see that.

  • -5

Get one of will smith slapping Chris rock

  • I was trying to figure out a way to buy now and print later? I thought that was possible for 'photobook prints' etc but for canvases, it wouldn't let me just order, it goes directly to photo insert and edit functions. Does anyone know anyway around this?

  • +3

    Sigh. This deal again.

Regular price all year round here, and at the same quality. I've made 10+ of these from diff retailers.

    https://www.thephotobookclub.com.au/voucher

    • Which retailers offer better quality compare to bigw photos?

      • +1

They're all about the same. Can't even tell once it's on the wall without looking behind the canvas.

  • Harvey Norman photos also has the canvas print on sale

  • Would these do anything for reducing echo in a room?

    • +2

I doubt it - but nothing to stop you adding a modest layer of sound deadening material behind the canvas.

  • Anyone know what the copy right is around this, can I grab a picture online and will they print it on canvas

    • +2

Of course you can. I doubt the printer would care.

  • I'm not seeing "Free Shipping" when I go to check out… is it just me?

    • +1

I think OP is misleading. It is

      Back to Store FREE Delivery
In store pick up is FREE

    • +1

You nominate a store to pick up from once they are printed/stretched

  • +1

I wish in Australia companies would put metric first and imperial second. I'm noticing imperial on more and more things lately like we've reverted to be like USA

  • From the last deal, I ordered from Big W Photos, I had to wait more than 3 weeks to get my photos.
