    OEM: Great Wall?

Also while I assume a retailer as large as Amazon wouldn't have >1 year old stock on shelves just due to the cost, there is a voluntary recall on certain lot codes of these units, from Oct 2019 - Mar 2020.

We wish to reiterate that only SF Series PSUs in lot codes 194448xx to 201148xx, manufactured between October 2019 and March 2020, are potentially affected.

a potential issue that can manifest when the PSU is exposed to a combination of both high temperatures, and high humidity.

Luckily we don't either of those in this country /s

However unlikely, it is something to keep in mind when you receive it.

    • Great Wall makes some really good PSUs (like this one) I did have a mate with a defected unit, it was a few years ago now, its unlikely they will have anymore dead stock that wasn't recalled. Just check your serial to be safe.

    • I had a affected unit and misplaced the receipt. I asked Corsair for a replacement and they said yes with some honesty of how I bought it. I bought it in-store with no account under my name with the date of the transaction. It took about a week to arrive if I recall. Doubt you will receive any units within those batch codes. Great process though.

      • The have no choice but to replace an affected model in a recall even without a receipt.

Receipt may be needed for warranty but a recall is a different matter entirely.

    • Well i got mine a few days ago, and can confirm my one from amazon was not from this affected batch.

750W PSU, will be good for future-proofing builds up to RTX 4050 or RTX 5030 in the coming years.

It's a joke, but seriously, GPUs are getting really power hungry and if you follow the "double your usage" rating for efficiency, it can get pretty crazy.

    • +2

we might be ending up with external AC adapter for GPU

    • +2

According to the "leaks", the RTX4090 recommends a 1000w PSU. I want to get a 850w for future proofing, but 1000w is crazy..

      • RIP SFX

    • Maybe if you duct tape two of them together.
GPU's are going to need a small nuclear reactor soon enough to power them, see that 3090 TI King pin with the new power connectors that can output up to 600w wach? that GPU requires two of them.

Double your usage for efficiency is pretty much a myth nowadays, a narrative no doubt is still probably pushed by some manufacturers. Yes peak efficiency is probably somewhere around 50% load. But good PSUs can still stay over 90% efficiency at pretty high load. For eg, efficiency chart of this particular unit.

      • Oooo, TIL. Thank you for the information!

    • You wont be able to fit those gpus into sfx cases.

$220 for Silverstone 1000w plat psu, not that much of a jump up at this price point.

SFF vs ATX. Not really an apples to apples comparison there.

Oops my bad, didn't spot that

  • Is this unit likely to go much lower than this?

dont overbuy an PSU as a new standard is coming 5.0 with a smart 16pin connector for the next gen GPUs from nVidia and AMD that does >600w! (graphics only)

they have been announced but i dont see them in retail yet, so expect these last gen PSUs to drop in price when they do!

I expect them to be 900-1200watt to 2000 beasts with maybe 2x5.0 16pin smart connectors! BTW: on the 3090Ti it comes with a 4 plug to 1 plug monstrosity for current gen PSU to runnits might GPU power hungry beast!
