Wofea Wi-Fi Garage Door Controller (Works with Alexa and Google, AU Plug) US$17.11/A$23.47 Delivered @ Wofea AliExpress

180

I have 2 of these already and needed 1 more. At first the connection was a bit flaky but since changing my home wifi to a mesh system and putting one of the mesh units in the garage, it has been flawless.

The only thing I can't work out is how to set the warning that the garage has been left open after a set amount of time.

No one else seemed to have got my joke 😑 probably thought I was demeaning you. "Come back here, I'm not through demeaning you!"

  • agree, have installed a couple. Made a simple 3d printed mount to install at a rental for easy removal

  • I have this one too and would love to know how to set up that reminder. After finding out that with the HomeKit version you get a prompt via CarPlay to open your garage when you get home I’m very tempted to upgrade. I can’t get Siri commands to open and close the garage which is annoying.

sometimes I receive annoying door opened / closed notifications on both android and IOS, other than that I am also very happy with it

If you want to receive alerts that your garage door is open when using the smartlife app, you will need to create 3 different scenes.

Scene 1 Open. If > garage sensor is open, then > delay action for 5min and message centre on
Scene 2 Close. If > garage sensor is closed, then > garage open then disable scene 1
Scene 3 reset alert. If garage sensor is closed, then > delay action for 5min and enable scene 1.

This will alert you after 5min the garage door is still open. You can adjust the times to whatever you prefer. 5min works best for me, has saved me a few times when the wife has forgotten to close the garage.

    Hope this makes sense.

  • I have one of these. Works great!

  • Hi all
How would I no if this works on my garage door? Any help please.

    • Nearly all garage doors have terminals to wire up a wall mounted switch. If you have these terminals, these wifi controllers will work.

      • Thanks. Will give it a try.

  • does it work with home assistant?

    • Mine is linked to Google Home but when I say open garage door, it asks me for a PIN and I'm not sure what it is nor do I know where to look to reset the PIN :D

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

Tap on the garage door icon in the app (I used Smartlife, should be similar in Tuya etc). You should then see an alarm bell icon top right. Tap that and you'll find Set password which is the PIN you'll use for Google Home.

        • Ahh, that's where it is. Thank you!

I've got it running in HA with localtuya.

Works well, though I use the open/close sensor more so than actually opening/closing it at the moment.

Garage opening along with presence detection unlocks the door into the house from garage. Next step, I'd like to add license plate detection (along with presence of course) to automatically open the garage door when we pull into the driveway.

      • I have HA (home assistant) and have a Shelly wifi switch to control the garage door setup in HA. Just doing some reading and HA has an apple HomeKit integration. Apparently once you have the garage door setup in the HA HomeKit integration correctly, apple CarPlay will pop up a garage door icon on approach to the garage. I’ll check this out tonight. Obviously localtuya switches ( like this garage door opener) will work the same in HA.

        • Having my own little conversation….I got the HomeKit integration setup in Home Assistant. Easy. Had to also make a cover template in HA not too hard. Appeared nicely in HomeKit. The only problem I had was once I was off my local wifi I lost connection/control to HomeKit. Then worked out you need a homehub, which can be an iPad. Once setup all worked well with CarPlay.

  • I’m a moderately proficient IT guy but I’ve never installed a garage door opener or even looked at the process. What’s the install process like for these? Is it idiot friendly or is there an expectation that I’ll know what I’m looking at/be competent at something more complicated than say installing lighting kits in Lego sets?

Find 2 terminals on the garage opener.
Stick magnetic reed switch to the closed position.
      Connect the wofea device.
      Plug into power.
Connect to wifi and smartlife app.
Set the alerts in the automation section in the app.
      Job done.

I spent more time routing the wires. Oh and my terminals weren't screw type so I went to Jaycar and bought a plug to match the pitch of the pins and it came with crimp pins.

  • Can anyone recommend if you only need one or two of these? I saw some comments of people installing 2?

    • One per garage door would be the normal setup.

    • Yes, has to be 1 per door/opener.

  • FYIW: I bought one last time, and I'm not sure if I'm incompetent or if it is faulty. 🤔

Their support no help either. Just strung me along until the return period was over.
Can't actually get the device itself set up.
Power it on, it flashes red for 5 seconds, then nothing. No light. No blue light, holding the reset button for ~10+ seconds does nothing, no flashing light again. Can't pair it with the app to set up.

    • What app were you setting up in? I don't have this device yet but the Tuya Smart app I've used before, it can be fussy about what device you select to setup. Once I get mine we can compare flashes and setup techniques. Make sure you have wifi signal too, maybe try the initial setup next to your wifi router.

I tried both TuyaSmart and SmartLife app, neither worked.
I tried it in the same room as the router. According to the instructions, after the initial power on, you need to hold down the (only) button on the device for 5 seconds to start red/blue flashing for pairing. But mine does nothing when I hold the button

        • Sounds like it probably is faulty then. I've set up 2 and have had no issues with pairing with Tuya smart app.

        • Yes got mine, first power up got a blue flashing light (no red as mentioned in the instructions) and connected to tuya smart app first go using electrical/switch(wifi). No button press required either to start pairing.

          • @Typo: One last thought, maybe see if the device has an AP when it starts up. Ie try to connect directly via wifi, though it would still need to be in a pairing mode which is what you can’t get :(

    • Might be a faulty unit but one more thing to try.
This normally is for devices without buttons like lights but who knows.

Most of the Tuya devices can be set up in 2 ways, EZ mode and AP mode and you switch between with a power cycle sequence which I think also resets the device.

You just need to turn it on, then switch it off and back on again 5 times (from memory, maybe 6?)
Just not too fast, I think about half or 1 second between switches.

  • Ordered 6/4 and arrived today 22/4.

Installed and working. Set up the automation for the alarm but it didn't work so will do some trouble shooting later.
