Minoxidil Extra Strength 5% Hair Regrowth Treatment 3 / 6 / 12 Month Supply $35.29 / $60.99 / $119.99 Delivered @PharmacySavings

Hi Ozbargainers,

Calling all those follically-challenged folks tonight - Yes balding guys (and girls), this is your Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Singles Day rolled into one!

If The Simpsons have told us anything, haired dudes get more EVERYTHING: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri7o8uOdWts

We recently hit a sales milestone with Generic Health (yes the fun folks over there called their business this), which unlocked new product categories to our pharmacy at really great pricing. I'm not sure how well this product will appeal to Ozbargainers.

I know the market is pretty cut throat for Minoxidil and regular users have their preferred suppliers, but given our low cost base (aka family slave labour and the fact I don't draw a wage from our business) I think I can get this product to market cheaper than anyone else in Oz.

I've had a quick look around the net and I think this is the lowest price in Oz for this Minoxidil 5% Extra Strength (generic alternate to Regaine) delivered express, as always Ozbargainer will tell me if this is a product I should stock as an ongoing line or if I should give it a hard pass.

ITEM:
Minoxidil 5% Extra Strength 3 Month Supply = $35.29 Delivered Express Post
Minoxidil 5% Extra Strenght 6 Months Supply = $60.99 Delivered Express Post

I rather take my 1mg Finasteride every day before I spend money for something what maybe not works.

    • Can you share what Finasteride is please? Is it a tablet?

      • Yes its a tablet, requires a prescription, different products for different treatments.

      • +3

Need a prescription, ask doc for 5mg and quarter them

        • I used to ask my Dr. in Germany but they don’t want to take responsibility in case I cut it wrong. It’s not allowed in Germany and they don’t want to loose their license. What about Australia?

        • +1

          why quarter them?

Wouldnt it be better to just get a 1mg tab?

Maybe overblown but the warnings on Fin tablets around women are pretty full-on from making contact with the tablets, especially if they are pregnant, seems like added risk?

          • @yacman: It’s cheaper to buy 5mg and then quarter them

        • I half em every 2nd day, been on it 10 years or so. Seems to have helped alot.

Wouldn't touch any foam or the like, too much of a nuisance. Also despise the companies that make you feel miserable about it pretending their actually anything but salesmen.

    • +8

      Quick Google yields: the following:
"The more common side effects that can occur with finasteride include:
      decreased sex drive.
trouble getting or keeping an erection.
      ejaculation disorder.
increase in breast size and tenderness.
      skin rash.
      Yikes

      • +8

Yeah people overblow those side effects and how common they are. From the research papers it’s less than 1%. Been on it myself for years and know many others and all are fine.

        • +4

Sounds fair. I hear rose hip oil helps with breast tenderness BTW :p

        • +2

Erectile dysfunction is common in older men.
It's hard to know if its a side effect from an entire adulthood taking finasteride or just old age.
Baldness is also a sex killer, so choose what you'd prefer to deal with.

          • +1

@drfuzzy: Just need to find someone with a massive crush on Krillin and hope you're only 5 feet tall and you're winning

          • @drfuzzy: also has to do with the age of the female partner ….. as you get older the women also seem to get older unless you are rich …. we can’t all score a trophy wife / girlfriend.

          • +3

            @drfuzzy:

Baldness is also a sex killer

            Jada never had any issues.

      • +4

Never had any issues taking them since 20 years now.

      • +4

I've been on Finasteride for 10+ years. No side effects after all these years.

        • Does it work?

          • @Danneo: I guess you wondering if he spends money for no results? Perhaps the question is does it work well.

          • +1

@Danneo: Yes. The sooner you start the better. If you look like the person in the deal picture it would be too late unless you wanted to keep what you had left. I started using at first sight of losing hair when I was early 20s. It doesn't do anything for hair on your temples.

I have never used Minoxidil/rogain all that stuff. I read some have experienced new growth from Finasteride but I can't comment on that personally. My hair is thicker

            Good luck

            • @cute as duck: If you've got some thinning in the crown but have been using minoxidil to keep those hairs active, can fin help fill out the area again? Understand it can take 1-2 years for results to show

              • @dinglejerry: Yes! Your other options for that area is a hair transplant or use hair fibres such as Toppik to fill it up. The latter will be easy and look pretty natural.

                • +1

@cute as duck: Honestly my hair is pretty thick elsewhere so it's not that big a deal (no temple recession for example) - I've used monox for awhile and even though there's thinning it's kept the hairs alive if that makes sense. Now tried fin 3-4x a week (per hair loss channel) the last 5 months and hoping that will just thicken the hairs a bit - so thank for the feedback.

Hair fibres are ok but I find they do come off fairly easily eg if i run my fingers through my hair

                  • @dinglejerry: About the hair fibres - make sure you use hair spray. Not the Toppik hairspray but the big can stuff. And don't apply too much because you can see the stuff sitting on your naked scalp.

I never liked Minoxidil because it's too much effort in the mornings and hard to style hair afterwards. Plus once you stop the hair falls out so it's a vicious cycle.

Finasteride you should be using daily. The 5mg tablets you should be quartering so it is 1.25mg per day. Get a pill cutter for accuracy. Also when getting your script filled, ask for generic Finasteride at Chemist Warehouse. From memory it is like $25 bucks, much cheaper than Propecia (expensive branded Finasteride)

                    Good luck 🙂

                    • @cute as duck: Yes I do use a pill cutter.

If you check out the hair loss show - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekeRPx0TJqE - these doctors recommend 3x a week to minimise risk of sides. Because my hair loss isn't too bad I decided to go with that.

If you know of a specific hair spray you recommend let me know.

                    • @cute as duck: I bought a pill cutter off eBay and it's so bad! Any recommendations?

This one barely cut a pill in half clean 🤣

When I used Finasteride EOD I got massive sides, when daily it got better for me.

                      • @[Deactivated]: I know what you mean about the pill cutters. To be honest I just end up using scissors most of the time and do my best to quarter them but the dosage is never the same and it's not a biggie.

        • @cute as a duck
How is the cute D*ck? Any issue going for home run.
I am 33 years considering Finasteride.

      • Thats happened to when I started taking it for the first year.
Then I stopped for 3 months and taking it again. Then issue is gone.

    • Did you go to a doc for finasteride prescription or online chemist, if you’re comfortable sharing a link that’d be great pls

      • Just go to any GP. They will give you script without any further diagnosis. It's common for people to get Finasteride.

      • I used ‘Alldaychemist’ they have sales sometimes

    • I have been diagnosed with alopecia and my doctor prescribed me both half finasteride 5mg every 2nd day and minoxidil 5%.

    • +1

Except your dong doesn't work now.

  • I've been using Minoxidil for about 4 months now, it's noticeably stopped and even reversed the loss. Don't think it works for everyone but for some it's good. I've been paying 45 for three months supply, might check this out

    • I take tablets..
And costs $70 for 3months..much easier than topical imo

      • Has potential sides tho

      • Yeah tablets would be more convenient though I'd have to test for the side effects- though Minoxidil has side effects for some people too so it's really what works for you

  • +2

In 2019 I managed to get a private ruling from the ATO about claiming hair treatment.

In the end they agreed with me and allowed it 🤨

    • Really? Wow - are you an actor or in a similar profession which specifically requires you to have hair to maintain your income producing role?

      • +1

I’m not. But my client was

        • Thanks I will share this with our retail clients, we have many buying either Finasteride or Minoxidil and some may be able to take advantage of this knowledge, thanks for sharing.

          • +1

@jason101: Pleasure. The key is that it must be inherit to their earning abilities. Without a contractual obligation or endorsement from a boss you’re going to be running uphill with your argument.

In the end they could only claim for the period they were under such obligation.

"$1000 for Minoxidil: To keep brain from freezing".

      • Personally I pay $19.99 for hair in a drum

  • Is this effectively Regaine?

    • +1

Generic alternate with the same active ingredient

      • Thanks and is this the foam?

  • Have you considered branching into complimentary product add-on options such as Large zinger box meals, grant packets, RM williams comfort craftsmen boots, and wild outlandish multi tipping newsletters?

    • +4

No but my brother in law has started making custom corporate branded car deodorants, I asked him for a price yesterday so I may include these in future Ozbargain deals ;-)

  • Good deal. +1 from me

I normally buy Hair-A-Gain for $90 and that is the cheapest I could buy from local stockist.

  • +19

Don't you see? The tartar sauce, the bathroom key, drying your boss's hands — you did it all. It was never the hair. You did it because you believed you could and you still can!

  • Does this work for front of hair and foam vs liquid?

    • +1

Minoxidil shows less benefit for the front of scalp, so you will always see the warning that it is 'only' for the crown area. This isn't true, you should try it yourself.

You need to give it at least 3 months trial. Minoxidil can cause fluid retention in the face (reversible on discontinuation), otherwise it is very benign. In high doses it could technically affect your blood pressure and heart rate, but that dosage would be far beyond what you should be using

The liquid has better absorption into the skin due to inclusion of propylene glycol. The foam is more convenient, not better

At this price, it will be the liquid

      • I'm keen on foam, mainly for my front hairline.

        I got liquid!

  • +1

    Beardedly challenged man here.

Will this help cultivate on my face that which freely grows on my ass?

  • OP I agree these are some great prices but can you get any deals on the foam?

  • Do you sell the pill form ?

  • +1

I have been on finesteride now Dutasteride pills for 20+ years. No side effects at all. If you plan to have kids stop for a week before you start trying.

You need to apply Minoxidil(twice a day six months at least) to bring back what you have lost(crown) and Dutasteride to keep what you have. So starting with both will give better results.

If you have lost it a while ago then don't expect all of it to come back.

    https://www.pharmacy4less.com.au/minoxidil-extra-strength-5-…

    • why stop before kids? I've never seen this mentioned anywhere? What are you talking about stopping?

      • S*x

      • I started taking finesteride and later switched to Dutasteride which is more effective. A colleague was advised to stop taking the pills a week before trying to have kids. No idea why. I had kids a long time ago so haven't done the research. Lol not having anymore anyway.

        • Do you need a prescription?

  • +2

Give platelet-rich plasma therapy (prp) a go on the scalp. My hair feels stronger and fuller. And boys at work have noticed it.

I was on fin but stopped because it affected my sex drive.

    • Hmm interesting. Someone mentioned this for injury recovery recently but what's the science for hair loss prevention?

      • Highly recommend prp for the car spots case

      • Maaaate, PRP was great for my shoulders. Then my Doc asked if I wanted to do it on my hair and said (profanity) it why not. I didnt take before and after photos. But lots of people close to me have noticed a big differences.

        • Name of doc please?

  • +5

    Mother's Day sorted

  • Minoxidil shows Sold Out

  • Damn sold out quick, reading the thread and then realized it sold out when I got to the bottom.

    • +1

Minoxidil does not work, do not buy. If it worked, they wouldn’t be any bald people around.

    • What ?

      • -1

        What what?

    • +2

If you're bald probably not much will help you, if you're thinning but still have hair then it should help thicken things up again.

Just depends how far gone you are.

  • Any details on expiry date?

  • I use Kaminomoto, find it quite good.

  • +6

Wow. A lot of bald dudes on Ozbargain. I'm also balding, but not in denial! Embrace the balding, you can't stop it. Save money and just cut your hair short!

    • +3

You most certainly can stop it, even possibly reverse it with early intervention. At least in my case 10+ years ago with Finasteride

      Speak to your GP.

    • -8

You definitely haven't had sex in a long time.

      • +8

Embracing and accepting yourself is probably the best thing for your sex life (and much more). If I were seeking a partner rich sex life without spending extra money it would be No.1 on my list. No. 2 Grooming (shave head and trimmed beard or sexy stubble). No. 3 Diet. No. 4 Exercise

You dont get anywhere by throwing shade on ozbargain forums to make yourself feel better but that's just my experience

  • Damn! Missed this. Bloody kicking myself for not seeing earlier

  • +3

Just bought Minoxidil 3 months supply for $34.95 from eBay.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Minoxidil-Extra-Strength-5-180ml…

  • +1

Its been 5 years that I have been using minoxidil but i have decided to stop it now. My face looks old and my eyes looks tired all the time. Sunken eyes and puffy eyes are the common side effects.

It does help you to maintain hair loss. You will continue losing hair but at a very low rate. My brother and i started losing hair at the same time. I started using minoxidil but he didn't. He is completely bald now. i still have about 70 % of my hair but the strands are thinner than before.

    • I have never heard of this a a side effect.

    • I've heard of people with these sides on the forums, it happens.

      • I haven't heard of it either, is there any way to tell before you do too much damage, is it reversible?

I mean over 5 years you are going to age a bit, so not sure how to distinguish ageing from sides?

        • I read about people getting worse wrinkles from it

I'm not sure if it's instant or happens over the time but I'm sure within 6-12 months you'd know or people would say something if you looked different

  • any generic cialis ?

    • Get it online, you need a script in Aus.

  • Don't wash hair. Or reduce the frequency. I have lots of friends who reduced the hair which were falling by doing this.

  • I have heaps of sides on Finasteride :/ scared to begin again

  • Please do run this again - missed out!
