Nice, But how do we get for free? There are no instructions, code name, or any dance, symbol, voucher, ridiculous saying, or anything to obtain?

    • +4

Hopefully not like this previous deal where you had to say 'I'm Batman' to the cashier lol

    • +1

Old school method. Just go to counter and order the free V2 burger. That's how Burgertory is running it. Haven't found anything specific for the rest of venues yet as they seem to all still be on Easter holiday (looking at their socials).

  • -7

I wouldn’t bother. I am a product tester and had some of these for free to test. The only burgers I liked in the test were the Beyond Burgers which taste imo the closest to meat. They are full of flavour and even the consistency, look and smell whilst cooking are just amazing. V2 products taste all the same, nice try but far away from Beyond products.

    • +1

What are your thoughts on Impossible Burger?

      • +7

        Impossible to tell.

        • Also found it impossible to get one

      • I had these last night and I prefer the Impossible Burger. These are obviously less "meaty" tho which may or may not please you.

    • +4

Yeah beyond burgers are pretty good imo

    • +3

Did you test these schnitzel patties specifically?

V2 also have beef-style burgers, which - I believe - are completely different as it's mocked burger vs mocked chicken schnitzels.

V2 mince is also great. Still I like me some properly cooked Beyond pattie or Impossible that is at Grill'd. I'd assume Impossible patties are easier to cook as too many times I had Beyond pattie a way too well done and dry.

    • +9

I disagree with you here, the v2 Burgers are about the best ive tasted. I haven't tried the Schnitzel ones being promoted here, but there normal burgers are better than Beyond Burgers imo

      • +3

Beyond and Impossible are worlds ahead of V2 but V2 is still good. Not my particular cup of tea but I see them Reduced To Clear for $1-$2 from time to time at Colesworth and pick them up.

    • +3

      Bother.

They aren't terrible and taste is subjective.

    • +1

      I wouldn’t bother

More for those who want one.

    • +11

I wonder when such an original opinion was presented for the first time. 30, 60, 100 years ago?

      • -1

Amusing since you are the guy that moans about the naming of Danish fetta every time a deal for some is posted.

        • -2

          What about that?

Are you saying that me pointing out that a white block of fat called fetta isn't feta that you find in your recipes is the same situation as a person rolling into a vegetarian deal pointing out that a "plant-based schntizel" shouldn't be called "plant-based schntizel" because it's not a piece of chicken?

You might have misunderstood my intentions, but whatever amuses you.

"a seasoned and garnished veal cutlet"

Any of the neggers got a better source for a definition which allows omitting the meat?

Surely this is a "schnitzel-style filling" along the lines of "bacon-style pieces"? Rather than "bacon"?

      • +5

There are many different types of schnitzel. Chicken schnitzel is well established in particular and common in English language. 'Plant-based schnitzel' is fine, it describes what it is, it's not in the same category as saying 'vegan bacon' or anything close to that.

  • Go full Johnny on a zucchini slice, egg it and crumb it. Call it Schnitzel. Job done.

Still don't understand vegans wanting fake meat. WHY? Just eat fantastic, flavourful veg & grain stuff. Indian food cracked this eons ago.

    • +14

Might not be solely targeting vegans

I'm not a vegan but might become one one day, things like this on the odd occasion will certainly help

      • +7

They're not. These new generation as-close-to-meat-as-possible products are the breakout market shift to plant-based diets happening around the world. Many companies are realising that the future of meat consumption has to change if for environmental reasons alone and there is huge capital being poured into these products to capture the burgeoning market. It's a race to perfect a product that meat eaters want to eat into the future, it's actually got very little to do with vegans right now other than going vegan is fashionable currently and providing momentum for the market shift.

        • Agreed. If you are committed vegan you don't need fake meat. Fake meat is to fool meat eaters.

          • +4

@netjock: Are you thick in the head? I didn’t give up meat because I don’t like the taste. I gave it up because I don’t want animals suffering for my meal. What’s so hard to understand about that? If I can have something that tastes 80% like meat but nothing had to die for it then I’m stoked.

    • +11

I don't understand why you don't understand nor why you care.

Veganism isn't about health or even a diet. It is about living a life where you minimise exploitation and cruelty to animals.

People who do that can still enjoy terrible food and can still enjoy some of the things that they enjoyed before they gave up cruelty.

In this case, they probably enjoy the crumbed and fried taste. (Plant based goodness)

But yeah, some will eat healthier, tastier stuff like you suggest.

      • Veganism isn't about

Veganism means different things to different people. It is like rice feeds many different types of people.

Worst are the ones who just start making comments which aren't even facts (not directed at you)

        • Not true. Veganism has a specific definition:

"Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals."

If you're doing it (only) for health, you're not vegan.

If you're doing it (only) for the environment, you're not vegan. (Of course, reducing environmental destruction helps all life on Earth.)

If you're doing it for the animals (and adhering to the above statement), you're vegan.

          • -2

@simonbrads: It is crap like what you wrote that get people off side.

It is like a stateless refuge. If you're not doing it for the animals then you're neither vegan but you don't eat diary so you're not vegetarian.

Stop putting label on stuff and play nice.

You just can't let it go when people are playing nice. You know condoms mean many things to different people. Catholics don't believe in it. Drug traffickers use it to package drugs, kids use it as water balloons and Bear Grills use it as a water carrier, people who have kids when they break don't believe in them (but you don't call them Catholic) Who do you tell it ain't a condom?

          • @simonbrads: So you can not eateat or consume any animal products and yet, not be vegan if you just choose to do it for health reasons? So you believe the definition changes, based on the intent? That's a bit silly imo.

            • +1

@cookie2: Veganism is an ethical stance against the exploitation of sentient beings, as per the definition already quoted. In common parlance, it maybe associated with those who abstain from consuming animal products for the purposes of the environment or health, but they'd more aptly be described as being plant-based rather than vegan.

            • @cookie2: Maybe @hypebull's comment below helps clarify, but, yes, intent definitely matters. Sean Abbott isn't a murderer, but, if he'd thrown that ball at Phillip Hughes intending to kill him, he would be.

Veganism is about far more than what you eat, by the way.

    • The words you're looking for is whole food plant based. People who eat this way don't eat processed crap, including processed plant based crap.

  • +2

No love for Ballarat. No burgar for me

    • +2

      Move to Tassie, then complain

      • +1

Get a Private Plane, or Helicopter and no need to complain about Tassie.

      • I had a v2 from Mr Burger in Hobart just this week, very solid but obviously not free.

    • You don’t miss anything mate. For free I tried them but I wouldn’t do this again knowing how awful they taste like…

  • -1

They would have to pay me to eat that crap

    • So you've never actually tried "that crap"?

      • -1

Correct 💯 clean green beef for me

  • -5

Baffles me how people don’t think these things are cancerous and people trust industries when we know that they told us sugar was better for us than fat, that hiv is fine because it is treatable, that transitioning meds will make us happy, that chemicals are safe because Woolworths stocks them when we used to have to go to the hardware store for them, that blah blah blah. Meanwhile 80% of meds dispensed by some pharmacists are for diabetes. As if we won’t need meds for all our ailments in years to come, and as if we don’t know that drug companies are the most powerful companies in the world, funding the campaigns of our political parties. But we act dumb and say everyone who questions is a conspiracist.

  • tried the nuggets at easter show, taste like real meat.
but can't seem to find it in woolies or coles…

  • +1

Wow, great deal, thanks OP. Unfortunately seems like whoever was picking the participating stores for QLD was drinking a little too much special sauce

  • +3

Burger Patch, Chatswood NSW has 100 burgers.

  • -1

What is in v2 plant-based meat?

Water, Soy Protein, Vegetable Oils (contains Antioxidant (Tocopherol)), Flavours (contains Glutamic Acid), Thickeners (Methyl Cellulose, Modified Cornstarch, Carrageenan), Colours (Vegetable Concentrates (Beetroot, Carrot, Paprika), Caramelised Sugar), Potassium Sorbate, Salt, Yeast Extract, Minerals (Zinc, Iron), …

    I'm not sure it's a healthy alternative.

For one, the petroleum based solvent, "Hexane" was most often used in the extraction of soy protein from soy. And when it's not stated it's GM free, the soy would most probably be GM-ed. And the rest of the ingredients should be described as "chemicals" rather than "food".

    • +1

If baffles me how people happily consume this ultra-processed, non food. One could argue that its objectively worse for your health than classic fast food.

      • +2

Amen to this. i had Impossible beef (as a burger) the other day and honestly it was pretty fantastic. Until I couldn't sleep that night because I was constantly drinking water, and then I looked up the ingredients…it has more fat than normal beef burgers, incl heaps of saturated fat, is highly processed, and full of sodium.

There was a good Harvard study on it, and the conclusion was "it depends whether you value your own health or the health of the planet"

Also it was like $40/kg. I won't be buying it again!

    • +1

not sure why this is being downvoted - that list of ingredients to form that plant patty is worrying, not to mention the processes it took to get formed, as opposed to a meat patty which has mince, and some salts and spices.

      • +6

What is in a standard BBQ beef burger?

INGREDIENTS: Australian No Added Hormone Beef (78%), Water, Soy Flour, Breadcrumbs (Rice Flour, Natural Colours (Paprika Oleoresin, 160b)), SoyProtein, Salt, Mineral Salt (451), Maize Starch, Spices (Paprika, Mustard Powder, Pepper, Cloves, Chilli, Nutmeg), Vegetable Powders (Tomato, Onion), Preservative (223), Yeast Extract, Fermented Red Rice, Natural Colour (Paprika Oleoresins), Coriander Extract, Antioxidant (301).

Far from "mince, and some salts and spices". It even contains that dreaded soy protein vchung was scared of.

I'm all for people being aware of what they eat, it just should be done consistently.

        • Why Go Out For Hamburgers When I Have Steak At Home?

      • +3

It's being downvoted, because the original comment assumes people substitute their weekly meat intake with processed foods like the schnitzel in this deal.

Which sounds like a patronising opinion and doesn't take into account how processed meat can be (see the Michael's comment next to mine).

And yes, there are people getting their meat not processed most of the time - just like vegos don't eat such processed food all the time.

    • If you listed the "ingredients" of beef, guess what you'd find? It's also made of chemicals!

By the way, I don't see anything particularly scary there. It's mostly vegetable stuff.

    • 💯 correct

  • The guy working at New York Minute in Richmond had no knowledge of this promotion and has no stock.

  • 5 Boroughs in Everton Park has no stock, claim they only found out about it yesterday but noone ordered any stock

  • The Elizabeth St one at marton place Sydney was delicious.

  • Soul Burger in Newtown Sydney is taking orders, quite a few people already 20min after opening.

  • Like the Everton park comment - no stock at Martin Place - said out of stock well before lunch hour. Waste of time.

  • Piccolo me Sydney sold out an hour ago.

    • FYI. We went to the Mile End one and they had stock there.
