    Dropping space for 6950 lmao

    • radeon 6900xtx or 6950x2

  • +3

nice, paid 2000 for a 6800xt in November. (after selling my abused 3080 for 2100)

  • +4

    Crypto ded?

    • +5

      wasnt very popular for mining

  • -1

I am waiting for 3080 to drop further in the next couple of weeks. Should I hodl or just pull the trigger?

    • +1

Up to you. Prices will very likely come down a lot over the next few months.

    • +3

Ray tracing and DLSS are big value adds imo, more than the extra VRAM and slight edge in performance on this card. DLSS in particular is like magic if you game at high resolutions.

      • +12

I think ray tracing will be out of fashion pretty soon, as it is will have to compete with Unreal Engine 5 Lumen which doesnt need the tensor cores. DLSS is very neat, but then FSR provides similar results. Having said that, it really depends on the games one is interested in as well as the desired resolution. If they support DLSS and or ray tracing as well as 4k gaming, i would go Nvidia. If not, then this one is the better deal (and more future proof because of larger vram).

        • +3

Ray tracing doesn’t use tensor cores, it uses RT cores. And Lumen will still use those cores to provide better ray tracing, it’s just that it can deliver good ray tracing with software rendering.

They’re not two different things, nVidia accelerates the DX12 RT method. Lumen is the overall lighting method in UE5 that includes multiple methods, including hardware accelerated ray tracing.

FSR is definitely not as good as DLSS yet, although hopefully it is soon. AMD still needs to get some hardware ray tracing going though, because it will still be incorporated to a degree, it will just be less important.

        • +1

I completely disagree - ray tracing will replace all the ways we currently “fake” lights in video games in future. Of course, this series of cards will not have the performance to do that - but the trend will certainly be towards path traced lighting, not away from it.

FSR is currently terrible, but FSR2.0 does look promising.

          • @get-innocuous: I agree in principle but practically we're very far away from "real" real-time ray tracing, to the point where it's not obvious if we will ever get there. With the way transistor lithography shrinking is becoming increasingly economically infeasible I seriously question how many more big-gain node shrinks we're going to see. Maybe 2 in the next 10 years, so whats that, double the current perf? Triple? We would need many orders of magnitude to render full native GI scenes at modern resolutions rather than the current low-res reflections with "fake" ML assisted denoising & upscaling post processing filters.

      • +1

I game at 3440x1440 and find myself turning it off as it creates some artefacts that are distracting.
It looks great in stills and some games, but I've had it off more than on.

    • 3080 will last you longer than this one

DLSS Raytracing support and whatever else Nvidia comes up with next with their tensor core should be supported with this

  • +9

    very nice price lmao

    • +3

Only problem it's Gigabyte video card, Gigabyte don't like to RMA if their cards are defective.
I only trust GB for their motherboards.

  • +8

    lmao

  • +2

Don't know much about GPUs myself.
So this is about the 2nd best card available on the market?
    Basing that uneducated opinion on:
    https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

This considered a really good price?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

    • +5

      this is good buy.

    • +6

At this price you could buy three 6900 XT cards for the cost of one 3090 Ti. Not to mention that the 3090 Ti almost needs its own power plant, and aircon.

But if you really want the best, the 6950 XT is getting released in a few weeks. Though it'll most likely be another overdriven card like the 3090 TI just to say "we have the best".

  • IMHO…IMAO…

    Price error?

But your entire personality is based around crypto. I can tell I'm wasting my time explaining anything.

                  • @rektrading: Huh? I think if you don't like to waste energy then you switch off your computer. Not letting it run 24/7.

    9% drop from $1499
    https://www.umart.com.au/product/gigabyte-radeon-rx-6900-xt-…
    Still a pretty rough price

  • +3

    i like my 1080ti

    • +3

well a 6600XT is faster at half the power draw

      • +1

Yeh thing is, when i built my pc a few years ago, i dropped massive $$$ so that it would future proof it for a few years, so that i didnt have to keep upgrading it every so often. I can still easily play every game on very high settings at 3840 x 2160, which is good enough for me as a casual gamer.

Also in 1-2 years this 6600xt will be in the same boat: "old and outdated", you literally cant keep up with technology unless you drop massive $ every year on the latest and greatest. My mortgage sucks up most of my money now haha

        • I have a 1080ti and definitely cannot play 'most games' at high settings at 4k. I'm dropping every single game down to low or ultra low just to get 60 frames.

          • @splitatom: He is probably talking about CS:GO. Definitely not Cyberpunk 2077 or MSFS 2020.

  • Those 3080 deals have dried up, huh?

I'd love one of these but apparently no good for VR.

    • +1

Where did you hear that it's not good for VR?

I tend to check Mark Poppin's articles at BabelTechReviews for VR benchmarks and it seems to perform reasonably okay against the 3090:

      https://babeltechreviews.com/vr-wars-the-red-devil-rtx-6900-…

There is a bit of discussion in the comments between Mark and a commenter as well re: 6900xt vs 6800xt vs 3080.

The Nvidia cards have better support for things like VRR and DLSS in VR but those features don't seem like they're used a lot.

      • +1

I'll have a read. Cheers for the info.

  • +3

damn thats insane considering it trades blows with a 3090 in pure rasterization

  • Fantastic price .

  • Super fast card for a very good price

  • +1

Almost feels like pricing error given the other cards prices on the site.

  • I bought one how much of an upgrade from a 1660 is this

    • +8

Would it make sense to find this out before spending $1369?

      • -1

Buy first, regret later. Which if one is an OzBargainer, is most likely next month when everyone rips into you for buying something above ATL at any time before that. 😂

        • The real bargain hunter mentality is; Research first, buy if needed, have money for future import purchases instead.

    • +1

      huge

  • Best price for flagship GPU all year. Better than a 3080, al.ost 3090 levels.

    • +1

that 6gb extra ram over 3080 is nice. apparently nvidia ram does perform better than radeons though. As per below 12 and 16 fairly similar if you get the upgraded 3080.

  • +1

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maqLX05hMuQ
Performed neck to neck with 3080 12GB version on average.

  • -2

Thats one heck of a price drop. This is gonna get sold out fast.

  • +2

this costs more than my entire pc combined bruh

  • Ive lost track - does this perform like a 3080 and support 'ray-tracing' ?

    • -2

It performed very closed to 3080 12GB but no ray-tracing.

      Check out review.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maqLX05hMuQ

    • +2

It does support ray-tracing, but the performance is pretty bad. So if RT is on your mind, pull the lever on an nvidia card.

These numbers are from the latest Hardware Unboxed 12 game average benchmarks for 2022 (https://youtu.be/oBDFtJ4lR2c?t=463). It doesn't take into consideration Ray Tracing, DLSS, etc I am aware 3k res isn't a thing, but I averaged the 1440p and 4k resolution performance stats. I personally run a 1440p ultrawide, so 3k is about right for me.

Love this graph, thanks for putting in the effort to create this!

    • +1

I think the 3090Ti has been at imao price before.

    • I wish this showed 1080p for my fellow frugal gamers!

    • +1

Thank you. I want to support AMD to help the little guys but that RTX 3080 12GB looks too good compared to the 6900XT.

  • If I am not wrong, the RRP for this card at launch was $1699?

  • 70th comment :(
    Someone had to do it

  • +1

    This or RTX3080 ?

    • +1

Only if it wasn't a Gigabyte card lol

    • This is much more powerful, 3080 does RT.
I'm not a fan of dlss so far but many appreciate.

For this coin, 3080 ti in another month or 2.
