Not sure I needed this, but I'm a sucker for a good deal and a new kitchen toy. Thanks OP!

    • +2

The same, bought a air fryer a month ago and still haven't try it out :)

      Impulse buying is killing me.

    • +1

Check out pressure cooked cheesecakes. :)

      Thank me later.

  • -3

HOw many people can fit for a 8L cooking?

    • +41

You would struggle to fit more than one leg in this so not even one person.

      • +3

You could always turn the people into mince. Might get a few more legs in.

        • im sorry to bring out people, who might have special cuisine to cook with this lovely cooker.

      • +3

        S13221 had it coming

    • +2

It will be very generous. We have a 6lt for cooking for a family of 5.

      • i think 8L can serve for 16 persons, so i'm not sure what cuisine to cook, it's hard to make a purchase for home.

  • +2

Great pressure cooker. We use it for congee on manual mode which we could only time it to 59 minutes at a time. Just add the meat in and cook for another 59 minutes and it's done. The pork rib bones stays whole but crumbles when you bite into them.

    • +2

My current ratio is 1/2 cup rice and 7 cup stock / water mix for congee for 30 minutes. Release and cook off excess water. But yes I've got the same cooker and it works wonders.

    • Yeah the usability of this thing leaves a bit to be desired - it's functional but will occasionally leave you scratching your head. Amusing example is their own manual states to use the steam mode to cook some items in the bowl (i.e. not for steaming), because none of the "pressure" modes allow you to set a time less than about 15 minutes 🙄 If your technical writers have to find workarounds for your built in modes, you would think that's a prod towards a rethink.

    • I'll be interested to try that, @DarkOz

How many cups of rice and how much water did you use ?

      • Our current ratio is 1 cup of rice with 12 cups of water. Plus or minus 1 cup for thicker or thinner to your taste.

For faster cooking, boil the water in a kettle first. The pressure cooker is slow to get the water temperature started. We tried cooking for 60 minutes, 90 minutes and 120 minutes and prefer 120 minutes.

For best result that actually look and taste like from the restaurants. Heat the portion of congee that you want to eat in a pot on high heat and add fresh meat until just cooked.

How the Cashback is going to work can anyone tell? Much thanks!

    • +2

I just bought one. There’s a form where u need to upload the receipt. One of the t&cs state:

      7) The Cash Back Offer is not valid in conjunction with any other promotional offer. The Cash Back Offer will be available only during the Promotional Period

I hope they don’t consider the $100 off rep on Amazon as a promo and deny cash back

      • Yea if they don't recognize that would be sucks! But thank you for the useful information!

      • The Cash Back Offer is only open to individuals who are residents of Australia 18 years and above. Up to a total of 5 Claims in the Cash Back Offer are permitted per Claimant, subject to the following: only 1 Claim permitted for each Eligible Philips Product purchased AND a separate Online Claim Form must be submitted for each Eligible Philips Product purchased. Please note that Big W, Target, Costco and JB Hi-Fi Airport Stores are not participating retail stores for this Promotion. For more details and to submit a claim, visit www.philips.com. au/promotions. Consumer support is also available by calling (02) 9912 4490. For more details and to claim, see https://www.philips.com.au/c-w/promotions/

    • From previous experience, just supply the receipt and bank account details, should work in conjunction with regular sales and such, both my items purchased on sale, one with additional AMEX cashback worked fine.

      • Same here, process was really easy and even tracked cashback from either shopback or cashrewards, can't remember which one it was.

  • I have this.. I've had mine for 4 years now. Use it 5 days a week for EVERYTHING. Rice cooker, congee, ramen, bone broth, beef curries, lamb shanks, brisket, etc etc etc. Hard yakka!

    • +1

Any chance you share some recipes ? Was gifted one not long ago but found the recipe book quite lacking

      • Second this, I've underutilised my pressure cooker as I don't know what to really cook in it. Would love a good beef curry recipe, if you have one.

      • Join this Facebook group, I find it really good and the recipes and ingredients to be quite basic. The teriyaki chicken by Ida Soh is so easy and tasty I never thought I could make teriyaki from scratch

        https://www.facebook.com/groups/1987277694826676/?ref=share

        • I don't have a Facebook account unfortunately. Cheers though.

    • +1

umm japanese beef curry.. what it says in the packet is the recipe, but i use beef cheeks and cook it for 30 minutes, natural release, then add the potatos, carrots and curry blocks, cook for another 10. A little stir and she's good to go! Beef cheeks take 2.5 hours to cook mind you.

Japanese chicken ramen broth - cook about a kilo if chicken frames for 1.5 hours, natural release, add on 2 scorched onions, 2 garlic cloves, half a bunch of scallions, a teaspoon of white pepper. cook for another 30 minutes, natural release, blend everything up (yes bones and all, i use an immersion blender). Strain twice (blue chux work wonders!). That's your 8 hour tori paitan broth in 2 hours. Just check seasoning.

Rice 1:1.1 rice to water by weight. Eg. 100 grams rice, 110 grams water. 15 minutes.

Congee 1:10 rice to water by weight.

Etc etc. I should do a tiktok for this… lol

      • What do you mean by natural release? Is that a setting on the pot?

        • +1

means i let it sit until the temp/pressure goes down enough that it unlocks and I can open the lid instead of the manual release on top. adds another 10 minutes to the cooking time.. but the quick manual release makes the liquid boil and i'm not a fan of how it affects the texture of the food.. (i'm just THAT finicky about it though)

  • +2

I don’t need it but I’m buying it

    • i guess that's everyone including me :D

  • Good timing. Got one. Hope the quality is good. Cheers Ops.

  • Just bought, thanks OP.

  • +1

is the inside of the lid plastic?

  • +1

Anyone knows how does this compare with the breville fast slow or instantpot?

    • +1

instapot has stainless steel bowl, never scratches , philips stainless steel bowl is an accessory so an extra $50 ……… so if you want a stainless steel bowl, instapot is the cheaper choice.

  • i think this one is on sale in costco ?

    • No $100 cashback from Costco:

Please note that Big W, Target, Costco and JB Hi-Fi Airport Stores are not participating retail stores for
      this Promotion.

  • Out of stock! Damn, really wanted it at this price!

    • You can still order FYI:

Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we ship the item.

You can cancel if it is taking too long, or you change your mind.

      • Yeah but if it arrives after cashback offer is over, then you're $100 worse off.
Edit: just read your last line. Good point! Might take the risk and see if back order arrives before June! Thanks!

    • You can backorder though?

      • +1

How long is the back order? If it arrives after 13th June you're kinda screwed.
Edit: I have now backordered hoping it arrives before promo cut off!

        • Second edit: don't be dumb like me and think you have until June 13th to receive back order. You actually only have until 8th of May. Thanks to @mrgeckoz below for this!

    • It's actually cheaper now from TGG with the 15% shopback, and you get $20 tgg credit (find something eligible above $1 to get $50 credit total), I bought some $20 knife sharpener

  • Can you get $100 cashback on a 6L version ?

    • Nope. Not listed on T&Cs

  • Will this too big for a family of 3?

    • It's never too big, can always store excess in the freezer for meal preps :)

    • I will think about how many people can drink 8L of water…

    • An excuse to add to the family :p

    • no, if you cook smaller portions it takes longer as more empty space to fill with steam ……

  • +2

use warm water if making rice in a rush otherwise it can take upto 45 mins from cold.

  • Wow amazing price, I got the 6L for just under $130 a few years back.

    Fantastic machine.

    • Tossing up whether i want to upgrade mine to this, 2 adults 2 kids but lazy cookers 😂 but this brand doesn't resell much on Marketplace.

      • How do you find the size? Do you ever feel that it's not enough?

It's just me an my partner atm using the 6L and when we do soups we usually find it feeds us for around 3-4 meals.

        Similar too for pasta sauces.

        • Depends who cooks. When my husband makes his oxtail stew then it's not big enough as the chunks take up a lot of room and it's hard to brown unless you do it separately. If I make risottos and stuff then it's plenty. I've recently been just throwing potatoes, carrots, herbs and a whole chicken as im too scared of undercooked chicken but it can only fit a small chicken cut in half. I guess I could chop up a bigger chicken but I hate touching meat 😂 I'll usually freeze 1 portion of what we cook for a lazy day.

          • @MeesusEff: Ox tail stew? I'd love an invite for dinner at your place! 🤤

But yeah understandable, the more bulky items would be a bit more difficult to fit in there. My mum and brother have an 8L instant pot, and it seems both a bit wider and taller so might be handy for you.

            • +1

@mangobango: damn, finally decided to buy it and its OOS nuuuu

              • @MeesusEff: Always the way, guess it wasn't meant to be!

                • @mangobango: I think I might hang out for the insta pot, the reviews do seem better. I never use the non stick pot anyway and looks like the edging rust is very common issue

              • @MeesusEff: says it's in stock though

                • @9hundred: Nah all like $300+ from other sellers

                  • @MeesusEff: there are plenty of cheaper ones from other brands or the 6l.

                    • @9hundred: I already own the 6L and which one is cheaper than $159?

                      • @MeesusEff: if you have one, then why do you need another one? the chinese brands are always less than $150

                        • @9hundred: Wth lol Just read my comments instead. Why would I want to save a little bit buying an unknown Chinese brand compared to local warranty, especially for a pressure cooker

                          • -1

@MeesusEff: because the chinese stuff is the same as the branded stuff, just much cheaper, warranty always has fine print, so it's useless.

  • Thanks OP!
Just snagged one from JB, much easier to get support from local store if anything goes wrong.
Claim sent off to Philips site, very easy process. Now just wait for the cash to float back.

    $159.00 is frikken steal.

    • So purchases from JB are eligible for cashback? Only JB Hi-Fi Airport Stores are excluded?

      • Please note that Big W, Target, Costco and JB Hi-Fi Airport Stores are not participating retail stores for this Promotion.

      • +1

According to the Terms and Conditions you should be fine

    • I found the one JBHF sells is 2237/72 instead of 2238/72 which is the eligible model. Not sure if it's just a typo from JB or if not will philips honor the rebate?

      • The model on my receipt from JB Hi-Fi is 2238/72.

      • The 2237/72 is the 6 litre one and selling for $179. It is not eligible for the $100 cashback promotion. The 2238/72 is the 8 litre one, which is $259 and eligible for the promotion. It was on the in JB website earlier but seems to have been removed. You may have better luck walking into a physical store to buy one as @Arcticfox has managed to

  • We've got a Breville Fast Slow 6L that has ceramic pot but the coating is starting to flake off. Anyone found a stainless steel pot for it?

  • -1

$20 more without the hassle of doing a cashback:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/695964

    • -1

$30 more for most Ozbargainers, paying $90 with discounted gift cards for $100 cash back. :)

  • Doesn't need but bought one anyway

  • +4

Guys heads up, it’s on back order now and Amazon won’t charge you until despatch, which will affect the date on the invoice. The date on invoice must be earlier than 8th May to be eligible for the cash back offer.

    • Thanks for the heads up! Idiots like me totally overlooked this!

  • Price $239 now?. Thanks OP

    • Open box? Need to select Amazon AU seller, not warehouse.

      eg

      Used - Very Good
      $231.66
      FREE delivery: Sunday, 24 April
Order within 8 hrs and 51 mins
      Add to Cart
ConditionItem will come in original packaging. Packaging will be damaged.
      Sold by Amazon Warehouse

Edit: Looks like Amazon AU is sold out, that's why that option defaulted. Marked as sold out.

      • yep, then OOS

    • Ordered that one, but realized that is like new and not new. Not sure if applicable for cashback

      • +1

        nah, i just cancelled

        • +1

yea, cancelled mine too when I reviewed the order.

          • +1

@EnALup: Your item should still be new but just box damaged. I looked at my previous Amazon Warehouse purchases and there is nothing different with the invoices vs regular Amazon purchases, however yeah that is a risk to take, because of how Amazon list it as used and if that somehow came up. Also returns with Warehouse items aren't as generous, if your claim did get denied, you can't return for change of mind to Amazon.

            • @hamza23: I am sure you can just return it, if the claim gets denied.

              • @9hundred:

Also returns with Warehouse items aren't as generous, if your claim did get denied, you can't return for change of mind to Amazon.

  • +2

    Thanks OP.
    Placed order.
    Saw it was on backorder.
    Rang Harvey Norman.
Had one put asside, with price match.
    Pickup today.
    Cancelled Amazon order.
    Win.

    • A win of uncle gerry's, not yours

      • I'll line his pockets and my tummy

    • I wish I could price match now! JB has taken the item off their website!

      • -1

It's actually cheaper now from TGG with the 15% shopback, and you get $20 tgg credit (find something eligible above $1 to get $50 credit total)

  • It says that there is still one used one in stock from Amazon. If I order this, can I get the cashback from Philips?

  • +1

Other than the size, how does it compare to the Instant Pot from Costco?
