Again another undersized, over estimated panel wattage. this is probably just over 80w

    • Are there any independent assessments of what various solar panels are actually generating?

      • +1

Some but it's unlikely you'll find someone properly testing the vast majority of stuff on the market.

But yeah, 200W per square meter is about the best you can expect with the type of panels available to cheap "brands". This thing is 0.52m^2 including the frame and handle. Most likely under 100W, 80W a real possibility.

      • +3

A good estimate I use is to multiply the panel surface area by their 'proposed' efficiency.

In this case 0.936m * 0.555m = 0.519m2 (actual panel area will be less than this)

        0.519m2 * 21% = 0.108 => 108W

However, 21% is unlikely given the cost of the panel, it's efficiency is more likely ~17% which calculates to 88W…

It's not exact, but helps filter out the obvious junk.

Looks like a 1 star review on the site backs you up

The solar panel only has a maximum output power of 90W and not 135W as stated. The total area of the two halves of the solar panel is 2 x 520mm x 417mm, which results in 0.43m² and thus a maximum output power of 90W with an efficiency of 21%: Pmax=1000W/m² x 0.43m² x 0.21=90W

      • Thanks fellas for your responses. Food for thought.

Yep, bought some "250W" lightweight panels cheap on eBay, knowing they'd struggle to get much more than 150W - at 150W was happy with the W/$.

Plugged into the Victron on a lovely sunny day in Brisbane, and peak was 152 watts.

Reference was a set of 2015 vintage Sunyee 160W panels - peak exactly the same at 152 watts.

      • There are panels advertised as 300W which have zero chance of being so. Still, I'm curious to know what they actually hit.

I don't trust bangood it's a scam website. I had got a different product altogether couple of times they are one of the fake site.

I've bought sooo many electronics and drone parts off them, even had a warranty return with them that I was really surprised about.

      Just a different experience :)

Ditto. Bought thousands of dollars of stuff over the last decade. They aren't new, the aren't a scam. Is it possible to have a bad consumer experience? Hell yeah. But not worse than any other China shippper, hell, slightly better than most.

Same. Bought heaps from banggood. Sure it took time to get the goods but it all got to me. Eventually.
