  • Any love for Perth?

    • Nah, none for Cairns either despite us being much closer to them than any of the southerners.

Also, Bamboo Airlines is doing a deal on direct flights

I've seen bamboo scaffolding in the asian countries but this is taking it to a whole new level.

    • Yes, this is flying to "the asian countries".

    Still current at:22 April 2022
    Updated:14 April 2022
Latest update:Vietnam has re-opened its borders to all foreign travellers who meet visa and health requirements. Regular international commercial flights, including to Australia, are operating. To travel to Vietnam you must have evidence of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test taken within 72 hours of departure to Vietnam. Alternatively, you can have evidence of a negative rapid antigen test, administered by a medical professional, within 24 hours of departure to Vietnam. All COVID cases and close contacts will need to isolate. Travel around the country may be challenging. Entry and social distancing measures vary between provinces. These measures may change at short notice and may impact your ability to travel and access essential services. Follow the advice of local authorities. Monitor the Australian Embassy's social media for major updates.
    We advise:

Reconsider your need to travel to Vietnam due to the impacts of COVID-19.

  • Need HAN deal. Transit from SGN international to domestic is madness.

Ho Chi Minh city is great - but why a picture of Halong Bay, some 800+ ks drive to the north?

    • Same same, different.

    • Came here to say that 😋

I will never fly jetstar again. They cancel flights too often.

    any love for Adelaide?

  • Very tempting!

  • Anyone had any luck getting a Vietnam tourist visa?
Meant to be travelling in 3 weeks, but no luck with the visa yet. Seems nobody is facilitating them.

      Isn't it Visa on arrival?

      https://vietnamvisa.govt.vn/australian-citizens/

Not sure if this site is legit but let's you do it befor arrival.

      • It will cost you more money for visa on arrival and long queue at the airport.

I don't understand why people keep talking about this visa on arrival crap. Unless you need to fly within 3days.

Get an e-Visa for 30days for 25usd and off you go at the immigration counter.

      • Back in the day the site was legit as in you got the right documents for VOA, but the govt.vn extension is fake and intended to look like gov.vn.

But like samehada said, why pay for something you no longer need? The crazy thing is that the Vietnamese embassy in Australia still claims you need a tour invitation…no offense to Vietnamese government but this smells of corruption and backroom deals.

From broken eVisa website linked by SmartTraveller:

According to Viet Nam’s current requirements, the pre-condition to be granted a tourist visa is booking of a tour in Viet Nam. The tour provider will act as your inviting agent and is responsible to maintain connection with you during your stay in Viet Nam.
You will need to provide information on your tour and tour provider, booking of returned air ticket, travel insurance including Covid-19 insurance, and proof of “updated vaccination” when making an tourist visa application.

I don't know the best way to do it these days and haven't done any research. If I'm not mistaken, years ago I bravely gave my passport away to my hostel in Cambodia to sort things out for a huge discount, so I assume someone on Tripadvisor advised this. In retrospect, I guess not having a visa for the country of departure of the return flight could pose issues?

invitation crap is thing of the past. You can apply for e-visa for tourist directly on VN immigration website which cost $25USD for 30 days visa and takes around 3 day to be granted.

      https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt#:~:text=Vie….

The only stupid thing is their payment system rejected many Australia card payment which is kinda dumb.

e-Visa has been there for a few years now. There was many scam website which offer the stupid invitation letter before the e-Visa service.

      • I guess the Consulate is the way to go then (if card rejected)? The local embassy can't even maintain their website.

I always try to follow links on SmartTraveller but it seems many developing countries can't even maintain a website (or hire an English speaker to translate the rules).

        • maybe I help to pay for my friend application with my card hence got rejected. You can pay with your own card hopefully it is fine.

Remember to use the card then does rip you off with fx fee, i.e Citibank/ING/86400/Up/Coles MC…
