Bought this to replace my 5 years+ old Samsung 6.5kg top loader.

Not a bad price for a 12kg front loader. RRP $1,349. Other online stores are selling for $1,285 and over.

Got a weekend deal email from TGG for $995 and an automatic price beat popped up for $975.

At first glass of the DP for this deal I thought it was an Xbox Series S

My eyes saw a Google Mini 😂

I saw the place where my step sister would get stuck.

    Bargain for the 12kg model.

  • +6

OP, Title should have the price before the Cashback

    • +1

      Updated. Thanks :)

  • +2

Very good price for a 12kg front loader.

  • +1

I've read people are unsure if the automatic price beat then disqualifies for the cashback

    • +3

Just got an in-app message saying a cashback of $135.68 was tracked. (I added $55 for metro Sydney delivery so the total was $975 + $55 = $1,030)

      • +4

yes, but tracking and approving are different things. Maybe get the shopback rep on here to clarify?

      • +2

In last February Good guys deal from CR I got the cashback approved even though I used automatic price beat.

        • I feel like you can use it but it would be good to have confirmation from a SB rep.

          • +1

@Budju: Absolutely right. I don’t understand why then never mention about TGG price beat thing in all Cashback deals. Would have saved people from asking the same thing over and over again.

            • @io: I tried reading all the fine print on TGG and Shopback site on TGG section and nothing indicated it wouldn't work that I saw. But I've been burned before so I'm hesitant to pull the trigger lol.

          • @Budju: Another one is store voucher. Will it be eligible for cashback if used? Anyone here used store credit and got cashback approved?

            • @io: Just make sure the voucher/code is approved, otherwise cashback might not be approved

In the app, go to: View cashback info > Promos

              • @Serapis: TGG store voucher is like a gift card with number and pin. It is not a promotion code which you can check if it is an approved code or not.

    • +1

im unsure too - waiting for confirmation or else not worth getting the automatic price beat on TGG

        • +6

GYB just replied in the shopback thread "As long as it's not negotiated over the phone or takes you to external links, it should be okay."

        • Thanks

  • +2

Good price through the main GG store. This is the commercial price! But can't claim SB through there so good find! If your worried about SB not working eith price beat. Just pay the full price. 15% of $25 ain't worth losing 15% $995 IMO.

    • +1

Yes, even without the price beat ($995), it is still a pretty good deal after cash back ($845.75) for a 12kg front loader.

  • +1

What is this automatic pricebeat? I have never heard of it?

    • +2

It is a pop-up window once you click on TGG's product page. It says something like "We've found a lower price somewhere online and do a price beat for you automatically."

I guess you need to have your ad-blocker turned off, maybe?

      • +1

A lot of time it doesn’t just pop up. You can still click the link under the main price to see the price match price. Most times the price is $20 less even if the competitor is more than the original price…..always pays to click it, sometimes it’s $100+ saving.

  • +2

So sorry about this reply. I've never used shop back, have registered, gone to GG store through shop back but it still has a final price of $995 @ checkout.

    • +2

It's a pop-up window. Maybe try turning off the ad-blocker?

    • +1

Correct. You pay the full price of $995 (or $975 if you click the "Price Check Now" button on the items page on TGG website - disable any add blockers in order to see the button) to TGG and then once it all tracks and completes with shopback they'll eventually credit your account with the 15% cashback.

      • Thanks - shop back is expired now so no good for me. Thanks for this though

  • +1

Ive just read somewhere on the interwebs that there is only one cycle that allows you to use the full 12 KG capicity of this unit….

    • How's that supposed to work? It's a bigger hole, you shove more stuff in, happy days 🙂😅

      • if it’s full it might need a longer cycle …..lighter loads have more room to toss clothes around to get them clean, full loads depend more on water seeping …….
also the speed, full, loads are heavier so it might not tumble as fast …..

    • +3

All washers have recommended load sizes for different programs.

I didn't listen to those for years but I probably should have.

    • That's fairly standard. Probably 'Cottons' or similar.

      • Yea the cottons cycle was listed as 12kg. Bedding limit is only 2.5! Probably just a pillow case🤣

  • +2

how much loading is added to you fire insurance policy?

    • -1

This with an older galaxy note phone.. Dangerous

  • +8

The problem is samsung washers are inherently unreliable

    • +2

I had a Samsung 8.5kg front loader from 2009 to 2016 which I ended up selling for $200 as it was starting to get noisy on the spin cycle. No other problems, worked perfectly. Replaced it with the new model of 8.5kg Samsung front loader in 2016 and as of today, it's still working perfectly but I'll upgrade to this 12kg and should be able to get at least $300 selling the old one.

Both my parents also used Samsung washing machines for many years which no issues. I think a lot of people just say they are bad because of the recall many years back because top loader models could potentially catch fire.

When it comes to Samsung fridges - I'd quite happily say they are unreliable, especially their higher end models ($2000 - $3500) as I've four different models in 12 years which have all had issues (fixed under warranty though).

      • +2

Re fridges: yep, a retailer told me that Samsung fridges have a high return rate.

        • +1

Our current one was purchased new in 2019 ($3499 usually, got it for $2999 on sale) and has now been repaired (in home) under warranty four times. Despite being an expensive model, it only comes with a 2 year defined warranty period which has meant that the last two times, I've had to semi-fight with Samsung Support over the phone as their first level Representatives will just tell you it's out of warranty and offer to give you the details of their agent to organise an out of warranty repair at your own cost. Mentioning ACL doesn't change their position so you have to ask to the speak with a Supervisor, semi-fight with them, then they will ask you to send a video of the fault, review it and then organise the repair.

BTW Panasonic will do exactly the same thing even on their higher end, more expensive TVs (which still only have a 1 year warranty). They aren't as polite as Samsung though and you have to be a bit more aggressive with them and threaten Tribunal action (don't make the mistake of saying Fair Trading or ACCC).

My Samsung Front loader have been reliable, not sure about their other appliances…

    • Coming up to 10 years with mine. Wouldn't mind a nice new shiny one though.

    • My Samsung 10kg frontloader washer has needed repeated fixing, something to do with the electronic circuit repeatedly burning out and needing replacement as they couldn't handle the power load. I also had a Samsung fridge that was terrible and we got rid of after five years and repeated issues with icing up the part that distributes cold air. Will never buy a Samsung white good appliance again, but their phones are good.

      • +1

My old Samsung front loader had the very same problem. Kept getting repaired until warranty ran out then wheeled it out for waste pickup and got an LG which didn't do much better. Getting a German 🇩🇪 Bosch next time.

  • +2

My experience - never, ever buy a Samsung appliance. A Samsung phone? Buy it. A Samsung washing machine? Avoid. I've had nothing but (expensive) pain with their appliances.

    • We have 4 Samsung tvs , a washing machine, a stick vaccum, 3 phones and a fridge. All have worked well except for the fridge. Don't buy Samsung fridges. Also I have been told by many air conditioning installers don't buy their air conditioners.

      • +1

Agree about the fridge. We had a Samsung double door fridge that lasted less than 4 years. Their fridges have a known design fault that causes ice build-up in the main compartment. Samsung Australia didn't want to know despite Samsung UK acknowledging the fault and repairing fridges over there.

Their washing machines are rubbish too.

        Avoid.

      • Our Samsung 8.0kw air con is 12 years old at the end of the year and still going strong. The most powerful one in the house and gets the most use too.

    • Samsung 8kg Front Loader we bought in 2006 lasted at least 10 years before we upgraded and it was the FL we were happiest with after going through a series with faults including LG, Bosch and our current Electrolux which works but is rough on clothes.

  • +4

    Bosch all the way.
Beko are also junk. Had 2 machines in 3 years and just got a full refund from Beko.

    • German made Bosch or Whirlpool?

This machine is model WW12TP04DSH. The WW12TP54DSH model has good reviews at Choice but not sure what is the main difference between them. I had a quick look on Gumtree and most front load WMs are going for $300 so not sure it's worth paying a premium for a new model?
    https://www.choice.com.au/products/home-and-living/laundry-a…

Edit: here are the 2 models at Samsung website - main difference is you can open the door mid wash and add things with the WW12TP54DSH. This model you cannot

  • Has Samsung and LG washer, didn't last as long as my previous Simpson.

    • The electronic controller of my Simpson top loader got fried right after the warranty period has ended. I played the ACCC card to get it repaired for free after being harassed by the Electrolux region manager. Two years later the bearings or something else started to make a horrible noise. I didn't bother fixing it and sold it on Gumtree. I wouldn't consider Simpson again.

    • I had an old school Simpson which never died, lasted over 20 years. I had to stop using it because it was 4.5kg and too small. It was physically rusting out but going like day 1.

  • same price on the Good Guys Commercial

    • But you don't get the 15% Shopback cashback…

  • +1

I look on this with Envy, made the mistake of buying a samsung 8.5kg front loader a few years ago. It works perfectly still but 8.5kg we have found is just too small for the king size blankets. But can't justify a new purchase just for the occasional blanket wash.

    • +1

Same! 8.5 is too small for duvets and mattress toppers. Im looking to upgrade but I’ve been avoiding Samsung appliances since I have nothing but issues with their monitors and TV’s.

      • gotta say the 8.5 samsung has given me 3 years of flawless operation thus far, if it wasn't for the size mistake it would be perfect, was skeptical as previously I had a commercial grade top loader that had lasted well over 10 years. maybe once I finally find my next house I will use that as a chance to replace fridge and washing machine with appropriate models (Samsung Fridge I have sucks balls, from expensive internal lights that blow all the time to leaky water dispenser and crap plastic drawers.

  • +1

Replacing a washing machine that is only 5 years old, I would be so disappointed with that, I hope it wasn't a Samsung too

    • I just need to upgrade to a bigger one because there are more people in our family now and I only have time to do laundry on the weekends. It takes at least 2 to 3 loads to clean all of our daily clothes in the 6.5kg.

The old washing machine is still working properly. I am thinking of selling it on the market place.

  • I can't resist. Bought to upgrade our 7.5kg Samsung front loader that is >10 y/o. Still working well but I wanted the larger capacity and might as well buy now before the old one finally conks out. Cheers, OP.

  • How long is the normal wash cycle?
I find the front loader seems to take forever to wash compare to top loaders.

  • If you really want to risk it for the biscuit add this machine to your cart and then search on TGG for the WW85T554DAB. Add that also to your cart via the "Price Check Now" ($170 price beat discount). Once it's added and the discount has been applied you can remove it from your cart and the discount should stay (if you watch closely it'll also show the promo code it has applied for the discount. It'll be something like PB170XXXXXX where XXXXX are random numbers and letters).

Brings the price to $825. Shoot for the moon with cashback on that and it comes to $700ish.

1 - Add this machine to cart.
2 - Add WW85T554DAB via price beat and wait for discount to apply.
3 - Remove WW85T554DAB and price beat should remain, and if you're quick you'll see the promo code used so you can manually apply it if it doesn't stick.
    4 - ???
    5 - Profit.

Clearly a bug in the checkout process because it sometimes clears the code, sometimes doesn't. Spam the Paypal checkout button for best results after spamming the promo code a couple of times.

    YMMV.

    • Good idea, but the promo code PB170XXXXXX may invalidate the cashback, wouldn't it?

      • The price ends up slightly cheaper than what the cashback would be anyway. That's why it's a risk it for the biscuit idea! :D

    • Moonshot in progress. Shopback hasn't shown any purchase for tracking yet…

      • Hahaha good luck! Hope it works.

        • I tried the hack and the checkout was smart enough to realise the code was no longer valid after I removed the item from my cart, so when I tried to put the promo code back in, it said it was invalid

      • Moonshot update: Shopback tracking the purchase now, and store have called to confirm purchase and arrange delivery once stock is received. Will update as we go.

        • Sweeeeet.

    FYI,

This machine sounds large but isn’t.

The drum can handle say a 12kg load but in the real world is no more practical than a 8kg machine as they are the same size.

    LG’s 14kg is physically larger.

    • I have a 10kg Samsung washing machine and it is bigger than my previous 8kg machine. This machine is larger than my 10kg machine.

Can you please explain how this 12kg machine is no more practical than an 8kg machine? Im genuinely curious how you came to that conclusion.

      • +1

        The volume of the drum.

I have a 10kg machine from another brand.

Much larger than this. Won’t fit under the bench. This one will.

        • +1

The machines have the same height/width just 5cm or 10cm in depth thru 8kg- 9.5kg - 12kg models.

Another interesting fact you will find very few wash cycles that are not a full cotton wash etc of 2.5hrs can handle 12kg. Most cycles show 2kg, 4kg, 5kg maximum load. Eg 15 minute wash is limited to 2kg of washing.

    • I don't think you're correct mate. Samsung's webpage for this model advertises that you can fit a king size comforter/doona in it. I have a 8.5kg Samsung front loader I purchased in late 2016 and tried to put my king size comforter/doona in there and it barely fit. Needless to say I didn't bother washing it as it wouldn't have washed properly even if the machine could handle the weight of it. I bought this machine and it's being delivered on Monday so I'll be sure to post back to confirm.

As someone said below, this machine is larger dimensions wise - the depth is larger than my 8.5kg Samsung. The drum also takes up more space inside the metal casing where as there's so much unfilled space inside the metal casing of my 8.5kg model.

    • An update on @JimB's comment - as I previously posted, I had a 8.5kg Samsung front loader (purchased in late 2016) and bought this 12kg model purely for the extra capacity. I finally got around to swapping the washing machine's over today and can confirm that the 12kg drum is significantly bigger than the 8.5kg. As pointed out already by others - this machine also has a larger depth than the standard 8.5kg models meaning it does stick out quite far in front of my dryer and a bit in front of my laundry benchtop (both machines are under the bench) but it doesn't bother me.

Finally, my 8.5kg washing machine had one of those Australian Government water efficiency stickers on front of it stating it would use 73L on a certain wash setting. On this 12kg model, the Government sticker states 123L.

      • Good to know..

Last time I was looking at a 10kg Samsung, the drum wasn't noticeably bigger than the 8.5kg Samsung next to it.

Having said this 12kg is still smaller than my 10kg machine from another brand.

        Internally my drum is close to 60cm wide. Externally 965H x 685W x 785D

        • How deep is the drum, internally (from the back of the drum to the metal lip where it ends/the door closes, on your 10kg washing machine? On my 8.5kg Samsung, it's 34cm whereas on this 12kg model, it's 44cm. Internal width of your 10kg model is wider though, as you mentioned (just measured my 12kg at 52cm) but curious how deep your drum is.

          • +1

@akyeeeahdude: Depth of the drum is 460mm, but you wouldn’t be able to use all 460mm as the glass door impedes some of it.

I’ll bring a tape measure next time I buy a machine.

My machine is 10yo now so it’s just a matter of time before it needs replacement. LG 14kg looks good and is reasonably priced.

It’s criminal that drum volume isn’t listed in the specifications.

Sure by kilo is semi-useful, but I’m not washing heavy bricks.

A large machine is very practical and even if you only wash at 75% capacity, I feel this will clean better and is more gentler on clothes than washing in a smaller machine where the same load is 100% capacity.

When you load the machine to 100% the clothes doesn’t have room to tumble and I find also bunches up the clothes, particularly long sleeves.

            • @JimB: Thanks again for sharing that information - I too will take a tape measure to the store next time I buy a washing machine.

You mentioned that your LG 10kg drum depth is 460mm but that is impeded by the glass door. When I measured this 12kg Samsung drum depth at 44cm, I had taken off the glass door sticking into the drum in terms of that measurement. If I don't subtract this, then you're looking at 535mm depth so I'm reasonably satisfied that this 12kg Samsung is still a good unit (volume wise) in comparison to the 10kg LG you're referring to.

              • @akyeeeahdude: Good to know.

My currently machine isn't a LG, but would look at getting the LG 14kg next time.

My glass door impedes the drum by say 50mm, so make that 410mm, so overall it may be similar.

Definitely bring a tape measure when shopping.

Samsung never use to make 12kg machines that can fit under the bench.

I'll also consider Samsungs 16kg machine next time. It's only 1mm wider than my current machine so should fit perfectly as long as it doesn't vibrate.

Unfortunately LG's 16kg machine is too wide at 700mm.

  • I can't see anywhere that says you can't use gift cards. Has anyone done that in the past?

    • You can, you just won’t get the cashback.

      • I paid part of it with gift card and the cashback was tracked for entire amount.

  • Any deals on top loader?

  • How long would it take to finish a third or half load?

  • Why can't I see the "Price check now" button?

    • +1

The automatic price beat shows up as a pop-up window for me. Can also click on the "Price Check Now" button if I close the pop-up window.

      • +1

Thanks - I did a search and found that my ad blockers were working too well.

  • +2

Has anyone received there washers yet? There were no stock in my local area I paid extra $55 for delivery its been nothing but crickets for the past week?

    • +1

I got a call from their Alexandria store the day after I placed the order. They only had a display unit in stock and asked whether I wanted it or waited for a new one. Since I could still use my old washing machine so I said I would wait. They said they would call me again in about two weeks time when new stocks arrived. Haven't received any updates since then. Maybe you could give them a call as well?

      • +2

Thankyou very much I dare say I'd be in the same boat. Yeah was planning to call been flat out working 7-7pm last week and it slipped my mind thought I'd check on here how others had fared :-)

    • I’m still waiting too, starting to run out of underwear..

    • +1

Mine arrived on Tuesday (3 May) but was direct from Samsung (according to delivery stickers on it which had my name on it and Samsung's pick up address etc) and wasn't delivered by a Good Guys store or contractors who work directly for a Good Guys store. I'm in North Brisbane, if anyone was wondering.
