Has to be 30gb data plan or above.

  • Got mine around 2 today. ordered 28/4 which optus f'd up ID check and finalised 29/4 at 4.56pm. 128gb - went through original landing page - am surprised it went through.

    My order was around 6 pm 23rd. Confirmed on 27th. Lot of stories in between but lets ignore that. Today I got the SMS:

    "Hi, we're getting in touch about your new Samsung Tab A8 as there has been a delay with getting your new Tab to you. We're sorry for this delay but don't worry we're working hard on getting your new Samsung Tab A8 to you and we'll let you know when it's out for delivery."

    I am happy but excitement is going down with the long wait. And I hope its good enough to replace my old iPad Air. Don't expect same screen quality but similar or better performance and better speakers will be enough.

  • Does anyone know when you sign up to Optus Sport, it asks for your mobile number. Is that your own mobile or the number of the new service?

    Mine was delivered earlier today (128GB model). StarTrack delivery person asked for my ID before hand in it over and commented that he has been delivering lots of these today.

    Build quality seems OK although still doesn't feel as nice as my old Galaxy Tab S4.

    2/3 arrived today in WA with both ordered a few hours after this deal went up.
    1x 128gb (wife is super happy with it!); and
    1x 64gb (MIL hopefully will be happy when we gift it to her).

    All setup with the Smart Switch program, interface is a little laggy under load but when you think of the cost vs performance, you really can't fault it.

  • ordered on 24th 5am, got the text yesterday, cant be tracked at all, but finally got it delivered today.

    i'm wondering though, does anyone knows whether it can receive a normal call?
    i know it probably cant make a call due to the tablet plan, but i dont know why I cant receive a call from my other number to it.

      Optus data plan sims can't make or receive calls if that is what you are asking.

      You can try putting a phone plan sim in it to see if it takes regular calls.

          it can receive sms but not send. you get the mobile number from your optus account

          • @c64: yeah, I got the number from my account, but just not sure if it is the right one or if I got the correct SIM card, as I have no way to confirm the number.
            the only one that I can confirm is that any internet usage is clearly recorded in my account :D

    • Probably not have some 9-10 year old nexus 7's that haven't had screen protectors and are doing fine.

          I don't know how any sober adult can scratch a 10" tablet assuming it has a fold-over case when not in use.

            @Charlie Dont Surf: If it's used at or near a beach and some sand gets in between the cover and the screen, it could get scratched.

          I haven't yet found any compatible apps so I just use PDF files

    • Wife is using hers for photo storage (camera direct to tablet when out and about), brand rep stuff for children clothing companies (calendars, photos, instragram), light to medium gaming (pokemon, slots, etc.) and an alternative everyday deice to her very broken and barely hanging on Z Fold 3 - they're not suuper powerful but get the job done nicely.

          I did float this idea and was promptly shot down on the basis that "an SD card can't upload that photo to instagram". Was worth a try haha

      I'll mount it somehow.
      Basically something I wouldnt mind if it got trashed or fell in the water….and BINGO !

    • No, if you cancel the plan early it will cost significantly more than $150, not less.

      Minimum cost is $498 over 12months unless you receive the device credit, which requires you to be connected to at least the $12.50 discounted plan…

    • I was s/w Optus the other day for some reason and the guy tried to x-sell me a handset, then an iPad - I mentioned this tablet may have been of interest but out of stock, and he did say they are trying to get more in (not sure if 64 or 128 sorry).
      Better question may be, will it be before 9/05 when half-price data plan offer expires, and will they still offer on 12 mth - all iPad and watches are 36 mth

    Received mine today- Star track driver was strict with needing to cite ID before handing over.

    First impression- looks pretty sleek, I haven't had a tablet for a while (last one was a Samsung GT-P7500 years ago which I was rather unimpressed with) and have not owned an iPad so can't compare. Added an SD card and did some updates, so far so good. I think I'll be using this mostly for browsing, YT and light gaming so really can't complain for the price!

      No, any unused data expires at the end of each payment cycle.

  • What can I do with the Optus Sim and data? I don't use Optus myself.
    Can I transfer the data to someone else? Could I sell the Sim or just give it away?

      You can just give it to someone to use - if it's someone you don't know I'd get them to sign a letter saying they are responsible for all the internet activity on that SIM number.
      Just in case they are doing something illegal, you want to be protected.
      It's not possible for someone to run up extra charges or use more data than provided, so it's very little / no risk.

      I keep the data SIM in the tablet for the kids to use if we are out and about so there's no need to use the mobile phones for YT etc.

      Any unused data remaining near the end of the month will be donated to charity via the MyOptus app.

        • There's 30GB on the mobile data plan that came with this tablet, I usually leave it till the end before doing any donation.

          If I donate at the beginning, it might get throttled to 1.5Mbps if the kids used too much towards the end.

        That's a clever PR move. Optus knows exactly how much data is unused by all their customers so they could donate it themselves, but doing it this way makes them look better I guess? :)

        • I'd question if that data actually gets gifted or how that works? They are not transparent on the site.

      Nup - ordered 24/4 12pm (64gb) and radio silence. Partner ordered 28/4 (128gb) and received it on Monday

    • Ordered on the 23rd at 9:30pm and still got no delivery info yet, just have the order in the app sitting at 'submitted'.

    • Ordered 23/4 11:30pm and got a temp order number.
      Order confirmed 26/4 9:30am.
      Shows "nothing to see here" when I track my order up till now.
      On chat now with CS and told OOS. Go to an Optus store for available stock.
      Pressed further and CS is checking on the warehouse.and there is no stock and no ETA.

    Anyone else noticed the display has a bluish tint ? Any recommended apps to adjust display colours as not much in the device settings menu.

    Also grabbed this case from Amazon as it had next day delivery, fits and looks good, quite slim.
    Only issue on the one I've got is once table is inserted the small magnets don't hold the top flap closed, seems flap is just a smidge small.

    • I saw a Korean famous reviewer on Youtube and told same thing about very bluish screen and sound is loud but not in good quality,

      I haven't got mine and wonder if I just cancel the order but I already ordered case and keyboard from Ebay.,

      My order has still showing submitted and I have unable to expedite with Optus chat team so far

        The bluish colour seems to be less noticeable on videos now I've used it for a few hours.
        Sound is loud, but seems reasonable to me for a tablet device. I just think of it as a $95 dollar tablet !

    Sold my A8 for $250 cash on FB Marketplace. Only taken one day to sell. Fairly happy with it given I only need Optus sport subscription, and I have no use of the A8 as everyone has an iPad Gen 9.

    The optus support offered to swap the A8 with A13 phone for the same plan.
    Did anyone get that? They should give an equivalent value device (tablet) imho…

      I have not been able to log into the app.
      I can log onto my account through the website, but can't get to the message/chat function.

        • Ah sweet. I ordered on the same day but my order status is still at 'Submitted' and service activation still at 'Pending' in tracking in the Optus app.
