      These comments are yawn.

Don't like it, don't buy it… It's alot more than just a phone.

      • +4

Its barely more than a phone, its most significant selling point is the camera.

Which is also the only real factor to buy the latest product.

My s7 is still a phone, internet browser, media player, camera and whatever else.

Going by your logic, there would be no need for a huge range of cars in the world. Why pay 200k for a car when there is one that costs only a fraction lol

          • +3

@dji1111111: if you think selecting from different cars is different from selecting most phones in 2022…

          • +3

@dji1111111: To be fair, phone's have plateaud since 2014 and we basically perfected the modern smartphone back in 2016.

            Start with the Samsung S7+.
Trade it's curved display, glass rear, weak speakers, microUSB, and SkinnedUI with what we saw on the ZTE Axon 7. So that it has a sturdy metal unibody, flat display, USB-3.1 C, and front-firing stereo loudspeakers (in addition to all the benefits from Samsung).

Even with the Exynos-8890 running Stock AndroidOS (v5.1 to v9.0) it will have good battery life, perform very fluid, and run all the Apps you can throw at it. This cutting edge device from 2016, a whopping 6-years later, will be a solid midrange option today.

The only fronts we've made significant innovations are x10 OIS-Periscope Zoom, 1Hz-120Hz displays, and the latest generation of Lithium ion battery (Less Weight, More Power, eg Samsung M53). All three of these innovations are in the Samsung S22 Ultra… however, it also has all the modern day drawbacks: high price, high weight, large size, slippery, fingerprint smudge/ugly, fragile, no repairability, poor software optimisation, no microSD, no Headphone Jack, no IrDa Blaster, etc etc.

            • @Kangal: Moore's Law is starting to come to an end (plateau as you've stipulated) as Pareto principle takes over (80/20 rule) 80% premium for 20% gain from the previous gen phone.

              • @vinni9284: I agree, and researchers spoke about this as early as 2014 saying we're hitting the physics boundary for silicon with 16nm lithography as heat and leakage become a problem. Sure we've made advanced since to 8nm and 4nm, but they have not been linear improvements, and have some distinct compromises.

                That's not the Pareto Principle.

One good example of the Pareto Principle, is when you look at iOS vs Android Marketshare. iOS only has about 20% marketshare but it brings over 80% of the profits. No wonder Apple doesn't want to change their business model, technically they are the world's largest Gaming Corporation, bigger than the combination of Epic, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo.

It elevates one's inferiority complex. Why talk on a $20 burner phone if you can get a S22u and scream for more welfare?

  • +8

$400 per customer is an awful lot of JobKeeper payments.

    • +2

      Job seekers

      • People on welfare aint buying s22's lol

        • +1

You sure about that lolz ok not from Gerry that's for sure

I'm on welfare (jobseeker) and I certainly want one (ultra only),.. only thing that really puts me off is the no sdcard slot or I'd be all over one

Edit: mobile phones is my most affordable hobby lolz 👍🤣

I THINK I'm right? Gerry got a lazy 22 mil didn't he? I'm not certain. Think he paid back 6M.

On that note, if someone can lend me even 1 million, promise I'll pay you back $272,727. Accepting PMs.

Can you buy the s22 ultra, get the gift card, buy the s22 plus and return the s22 ultra?

    • +2

      Taken from the Ts&Cs
In the case of a refund of the purchased item and the gift card is unable to be returned, the value of gift card must be deducted from the refunded amount. Terms and conditions apply.

    • +4

Also HN are notorious with refunds.

      • the staff ask soo many questions even when u say that give me a HN gift card!

Isn't the Samsung deal better?,.. $1499 for a S22 256gb Ultra works out better overall (I think),.. ok you have to trade-in a phone to get the $500 trade-in bonus but everyone negs out of that anyway and sells there phone privately for more. My 2 cents,.. certainly need lots of sense for these highend inflated priced phones, 128gb version works out to be $1349
    https://www.samsung.com/au/smartphones/galaxy-s22-ultra/buy/

Edit: and free 2 year Samsung care+ as bonus

  • +3

Maybe pay for Samsung Care Plus if buying.
Just had my S21 ultra screen replaced, $510. To replace the screen the frame and battery needs replacing as well, all part of the screen replacement kit.

    • It's free .. just edited my above post,.. thanks for the Samsung Care+ reminder, how easy to forget the important points, certainly worth having it so far one out of 4 highend phones I've damaged the screen, my Note 9 after owning Note 8, 10 and 20, otherwise best to have a full cover wallet style case, mind you I dropped my Note 9 at knee height and it just hit the corner of phone perfectly, wam bam than you mam one cracked screen lolz

    • +2

Ouch. Was this repair carried out by Samsung or a 3rd-party?

      • +1

        Samsung.
But calling around to other 3rd parties they were almost the same price (around $480-490).
Staying with Samsung authorised repairer I keep my warranty (still have 12 month left)

  • to save more you can combine with Optus 24-month $69/m at HN for a $600 gift card to pay for this S22 Ultra and get the $400 as well ;)

    • -1

24 months is too long. In the tech world s22 will feel old once the contract is finish.

  • How is this a deal?

  • Just got s22 plus 256gb from jb. 12 month $69 Telstra plan and $900 off the phone price of $1649. So paid $749 for the phone

    • +1

Hey mate, can you share the link you price matched it with? Or how you managed to get it through?

      Thanks

      • +1

        Hey,
It was a standard in store offer. No price matching required and they had all the information on the products.
        Ends 27th from memory.

  • Does anyone know if you can get this deal being an existing telstra customer? I should have stayed on my prepaid plan aaargh.

  • +2

There is a second option if anyone wants to take a look.
Just walked into stalls and harvey norman have sweetened the deal even more with their promotions.
$69 over 24 months plan receive $0 Samsung S22 128GB; previous deal was $69 over 24 months for $600 gift card now optioned to receive S22 (valued $1249).
If wanting to receive other variants such as S22 Ultra 128GB ($1849) just minus the value of 1249 giving an upfront cost of $600 for S22 Ultra.
    Basically if we are breaking down costs $1656 over 24 months for 80GB per month 5G Data;
Costing only $407 for the service itself and works out to around $17/month for 80GB of data per month.
Much better than other comments mentioning $69 for $600 gift card when you get choose S22 instead being valued at $1249.

Best deal I've seen in a while and have got myself one.

    • Can you advise which store this was please?

    • So this Harvey deal still current cheers

  • Does anyone know if JB will price match (or just offer $400 off their advertised price in lieu of a gift card)?

    • +1

Tried today without success. Most they could offer was $1820 with $200 gift card - which is similar enough for some but not for me. It was going to end up better for me to buy off HN as I’m planning to take it overseas soon and get GST back
