  • Bought one as I’ve always wanted to be able to use y car or phone to sense when I’m arriving home and open garage automatically. Any security issues I should be aware of with people getting their garage doors opened when they’re not home?

    • I have a security camera that’s HomeKit enabled so for any reason the door is opened and I’m concerned I can always check the camera for piece of mind.

    • These require an authenticated device, something with a pin or such. I can operate using my iphone or apple watch but not my homepod mini.
We went away for a week and as long as you don’t push the button or tell voice assistant to open it should stay closed.
It is also set up to notify me when the door opens or closes, or if it’s remained open for longer than a specified time.

  • Mine keeps saying its offline and the light turns red, but works from the app not from google assist properly

  • Is there any difference in this and the non-home kit version? I use home assistant. No apple devices in the house so no need for home kit support. This days it is the upgraded version. Thanks.

    • +2

No difference. HomeKit uses a proprietary Apple chip, which is the only reason it is more expensive.

Also use HomeKit, you need a HomeKit home hub, which means you must own at least one of HomePod, Apple TV, or an iPad (which is permanently connected to power). So you would need to be pretty deep in the Apple ecosystem to consider getting a HomeKit device.

      • the product tittle says no hub needed. not sure if it is missleading

        • Technically not misleading as the hubs are either: iPad, HomePod or Apple TV. Primary purposes of these is not a hub so they can get away with it.

      • +1

HomeKit stopped needing a chip in around 2018. Article from the 2017 WWDC keynote, but from memory the change came into effect around March/April the following year.

        https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/8/15761800/apple-homekit-upd…

Apple is also making one other big change to simplify development: it's no longer requiring that every HomeKit device contain a specific security chip. Instead, it'll allow companies to authenticate their devices entirely using software. Smart home devices out on that market that don’t already support HomeKit will even be able to use this method to add HomeKit support after iOS 11 launches this fall.

        • Typically the extra cost is associated with overheads of platform maintenance (Apple Developer Program cost) and stringent changes that manufacturers and developers need to adhere to.

    • +1

The HomeKit version can be added to Home Assistant through the HomeKit Controller integration. The non-HomeKit version would need a custom Meross integration through HACS.

    • Thanks @Niroshansira. I ordered one for myself but could not order another for a friend. Amazon has limited this to one per customer. Not sure why?
I wonder if I can make a second order.

I have this for over 2 years already and it's been great.

One piece of suggestion (thanks to another OzBargainer) is that you want to set the time out to more than 30s (default setting) in the Meross app as otherwise there's a chance that it would time out and Home would think the door is still opening/closing because it takes more than 30s to close/open your garage door.

I've installed a couple of these on panel sectioned doors & needed to support the 'close sensor cable' along the chain guard back to the motor - which sites in the middle of the garage.
I found these type of cable clips make it easy, neat & tidy.

  • Any way to flash these with something like tasmotizer or esphome?

  • Great product. Love it. Depending on you garage door opener, you might need to get creative with the sensor placement but thats no fault of the product.

  • Has anyone set this up with Home Assistant? Any tips?

    • +1

Yes, it works with home assistant. You need to install Meross integration through HACS. I've installed the Meross LAN version and haven't had an issue for over 12 months

      • awesome, thanks, i assume it's just an open/close control?

        • +1

Yes, these only have a sensor on the closed part of your door so you set a time to show it opening for 10-15 seconds, then it shows as open. I just recently removed my Meross opener and build my own version in esphome as I have two garage doors and wanted a sensor on both open and closed

    • I have the HomeKit version connected to Home Assistant through the HomeKit Controller integration and it works well.

  • Bought the non home kit version on the last deal, works really well. Linked it with Alexa. I also upgraded the garage door reed switch to a proper metal reed switch specific to roller doors and just adapted the cable to the meross via cutting and joining the cable. Works perfectly. The plastic reed that comes with it on works correctly in a specific orientation.

  • Wondering if someone could help me understand if I need the one with HomeKit or without. We use Google smart devices in the house but have only iPhones. Thanks

    • +1

HomeKit version needs apple home hub devices such as iPad, apple tv or apple speaker for it to work with apple's home app, if you want to use meross' own app, you wouldn't worry about HomeKit version. If you have iWatch and you want the garage door to open remotely with Siri command, then either you have to be either on the same wifi as the meross garage door opener or you need apple hub devices connected on the same wifi.

Essentially without hub, you can only use it via meross app. if your iphone is locked and you want to open the garage door opener with Siri commands on your data connection it won't work.

  • I want to know that too. Have Google Nest Hubs at home and use iPhones mobiles. Which one should I buy?

      • Thanks for the detailed explanation mate. Will homekit version work with Google Nest Home and Speakers?

      • iPad

Does HomeKit setup using an iPad require that it be connected to power at all times (which isn't really going to be great for the battery)?

        • I use my iPad quite often, so it is almost always charged. Note almost, there is been few times when iPad was discharged and disconnected from WiFi and I couldn't open the door using watch, I had to fallback to Meross app

  • Can this be configured to work with Google nest hubs and Apple gear so either assistant can open it?

    • +1

Yes. It works on both of them. As long as you have apple home hub.

  • Hi guys could you please let me know is it work for DOORWORKS GDC6

  • I have a B&D SDO-3V2 WE CAD S roller door, anyone have the same door can share a picture of how they installed this kit?
Bought this product just want to make sure I do the installation correctly.
    Thank you

It looks like it has the right connections. Meross has a search to find the right connections to wire the device to.

Just make sure you only put the wires in the slot exactly labelled as per the diagram.

When I installed mine, I unscrewed the back plate and found a set of wire slots which I thought was it. Luckily I opened the front cover (where the buttons/controls are located) and saw the actual connection points which matched the instructions exactly.

    • +1

Neither manual is very helpful. I think my motor is the same so look for 6 terminals on the bottom left side of the back panel. Use AUX/OSC for the blue wire. And brown wire to the 0V terminal. The pegs push back the insert the wire, and release the pegs again to hold the wire. That’s it. Then just follow the guide to connect pair to wifi.

  • I just brought one of these …ordered Friday morning got it less than 24 hours later. Jumped on Youtube for a quicklook at an installation video…too easy sweet as had it all set up and going in about 40 mins…its works really well i'm so stoked with this as I used to always forget if I closed my door or not…..now I'm getting one to set up on my gate as i saw a few people saying they did the same
get one of these devices they are worth every cent

  • Bought on these on the last deal, can't believe how easy it was to install.
    Awesome product.

  • Bought this for B&D CAD4. Easy to install. Firmware update done. Can open and close with app. When close with app get a message "door action failed " at about 8 secs. But when finished closing at about 11sec app notifies " Garage door has closed". No problems with opening. Any idea if this can be fixed?

  • Sounds as though my garage door is a slow closer and takes longer than the default, hence the message. Explained here https://www.meross.com/mTerminal/support/FAQ/210.html
But where do I find device settings? Can find the device icon on home screen of app but this opens and closes. Still looking for device settings. Me and the garage door are both slow.

  • Smart Garage Door … Is written across icon, clicking on … Opens up device settings and set opening time to 20s and error gone.

  • Anyone know if you Can you get Home assistant and Life360 to collaborate to open the door automatically when you get home?
