  • When should we expect a new model for this? Worth waiting for a new one?

    • +1

Possibly soon. It’s hard to say as there has only been 1 generation of AirPod Pro, but going of regular/standard AirPods with a 3 yearly product cycle it’ll be before the end of the year. https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#music

    • +1

between Sep and Nov for sure

    • I think it be worth if you are in need of wireless earphones now. Still one of the best wireless buds if using apple devices.

    • +1

they work so well you can have them on 100% of the time and can hear everything around you as if you not wearing them. I actually feel naked without them in my pocket. Definitely one of the most underrated purchases I have made considering how often I use them, which is every single day.

      • I have one but it's gone missing for the last 3 weeks. Can't find it anywhere in my house so I assume it's lost. My left bud had issues connecting and Apple wouldn't help me with it as I didn't get Apple Care and it's been over a year since I bought it.

  • I heard mid September

  • Does anyone use these with an Android phone? If so what is the experience like?
These are still the CHOICE top pick for literally every single feature which then follows with Sony WH-1000xm4 which wouldn't be platform limited

    • I have the Airpods 2, so can't speak of audio quality. But with the experience, there's no battery indicator percentile shown on the phone and no "auto-pause when taking out of ear"" feature.

      • +1

I use an app called MaterialPods with my Android which gives you batter indicators. It is ad supported - but just static ads, no videos or anything.

    • +2

They work with an Android phone (Z Fold 3); pass-through and noise-cancelling modes both work the same and are both incredible.

I cannot get Siri (voice prompt) and/or spatial audio working, which is understandable. From my personal use case, Siri seems to recognise voice better than Google.

I occasionally use AirPods Pro on the iPad and what Apple has done with the spatial audio is really amazing. I also miss the fast switching between iPhone + iPad.

      • From my personal use case, Siri seems to recognise voice better than Google.

That's super surprising, given my experience with Siri. Do you think it might be the hardware difference, ie. better mics in Apple gear than in your Android gear? Legit question, no intention to start a brand war. I feel Siri is dumb as and not reliable at times. Too often to call it reliable in general. Eg. I ask to "set timer to 10 mins" and - even though I can see my words on the screen - Siri replies things like "I can't see an app for that" or "for how long?". 85% times it works, I'd say. The other times is sheer frustration when my hands are too dirty or wet to touch the device or when I needed to save some time, but got the opposite result.

Also re Spatial Audio - it's interesting to have the directional Apatial Audio (ie. you feel the source of the sound stays in place while you move your head), but apart from that isn't it like without it you get the music or a show as produced/intended and Spacial Audio is more or less like tweaking the EQ? Ie. unnecessary if the audio is already produced well by the creators?

    • I use these with an Oppo Find X3 Pro and it's excellent. You still get outstanding noise quality and isolation. If I remember correctly, you only get transparency mode and active noise cancellation when connecting it to your Android for the first time. To enable off mode (which is basically transparency and ANC off), you need to connect it to any iPhone and then update the settings on it to enable it.

In terms of other features, you can download a third party app to get battery indication when you open the Airpods Pro case and in the notification bar while you have them in your ear. My Airpods also auto-pause when removing from ear but I can't remember if it's because I set it with an iPhone first or it does it by default. With third party apps, I suggest downloading Material Pods and paying a small price for the premium version to enable these features. The app is also updated regularly.

I have the airpod pros. Used to use with iPhone 13pm, but now are using a Flip3. They work great. Can still turn the transparency modes on because it's controlled from the headphones.
Sound is good. Fit is good too.

But honestly, I have a pair of soundpeats mini pro hybrids and for me they are better in nearly every way except the noise cancelling isn't AS good.

But they fit better, last longer battery (that's two massive wins for me) sound quality is a toss, both have nice bass and sound. The Soundpeats H1 have sound quality way ahead of both I mentioned but they are a bit big. Which to my next point, the Sony's fitment I found ridiculously big and returned the next day. They look massive in ear, and fitment is awful for me. Honestly the noise cancelling is great but everything else isn't that impressive.
That's not even factoring in the cost difference between the above.

    • What's missing is the ability to change what double press/long press do, battery indicator and the ability to turn on/off anc or transparency from your phone (have to hold the buttons on the earphones themselves).

Got my local Officeworks to price beat this - https://www.vchainstoreau.com/product/apple-airpods-pro-2021…

    Came down to $274.55

Good to see Amazon is an option too.

    • Is that an Au stock ??

      • Not sure, but I don’t think so. Officeworks store didn’t seem to care but the central phone support team may be question it. In that case, Amazon is the way to go.

    • -5

too much mucking around for $20 — amazon also have free same day delivery on these (unless it was targeted for me) — that sealed the deal. au stock, decent discount, applied gift card & cashback with same day delivery…. zero effort, username checks out

      • +1

        giftcard n cashback???

        • How do you get Officeworks gift cards?

      • +9

        Get out.

      • +1

It’s worth a try if your local Officeworks is close, which mine is. I was also getting 2 pairs so total savings were $50.

    • Good one. Picked up one for mother day gift!

    • Just price beated vchainstoreau at local officeworks, no problem at all, worth a try.

  • -1

Hate them, instantly fall out. Doesn’t work for zoom/teams unless you like the sound of somebody talking sounding like they’re in a different room with the door closed. No low battery earning other than the red led and one pod stops working.

Ordered the comply memory foam ear tips to see how they go. Wasn’t a fan of the hooks option needing to carry around a second case

    • +9

Something wrong with your setup or AirPods if you have issues with Teams or Zoom. I use them almost daily for both, iPhone or Windows laptop with no issue. One of the better sounding microphones for wireless NC buds too.

    • Using wireless in-ear earbuds are just a bad idea in general for any kind of microphone usage - due to things such as poor codec support and limited bandwidth.

    • +4

There’s an audio prompt at 10% battery life, and case life can be checked on the phone. Inner ear fitment is always an individual thing.

      • Oops, wrong comment

    • The mics in these are significantly better than the mics in the Samsung Buds+ and the Sony XM3 headphones.

They’re also a bit more comfortable than the Samsung Buds+

    • -5

Totally agree with you, ended up selling these for a loss, ALL of the tips fell out of my ears and were uncomfortable. Never had a problem with original AirPods which cost me far less. Stay away from these.

      • -1

Horses for courses. The small tips are the only ones I can use. The medium and large tips are incredibly uncomfortable.

    • +4

Sounds like bought some AirP0dz Pr0. This post is about genuine Apple AirPods Pro

  • +1

Are these comfortable to lay on your side on a pillow with?

    • +2

      No

    • +13

Just respect them in the morning.

    • Yes for me, might differ for others

    • Had to laugh out loud at your comment as this is literally my only deciding factor when it comes to ear buds.

      • Exactly. Sometimes, you want to be able to lay on your side and listen to music to help fall asleep.

    • you can but the battery is dead by the morning I find.

  • No regrets worth the dosh

  • What’s sound quality like compared to full headphones? For example lower/mid level sennheiser? (Or anything similar that someone owns).

Have iPhone/Apple Music so interested in the spatial audio , but otherwise not that worried about the other stuff, voice commands etc

  • price reduced for the next generation coming soon

  • Any difference in warranty compared to getting it from the Apple store? May be moving overseas after I buy them

  • What’s the new model gonna have that will be an improvement over these?

    • Siri will read brainwaves, so this comes in handy when you’re in a particularly noisy area, for example

  • I've recently made the switch from Android to iOS (well, kinda made the switch), and I want these but will so pissed if a new pair come out later this year

  • Beaut. Thanks. Ordered 1x (Officeworks price match) as a gift.

  • +1

Picked up a set from officeworks Kotara. Big shout out to the douchebag who tried to tell me that I couldn’t price match with Amazon as they ship from China and don’t have Australian warranty. Told me that he’d had 2 other people ask on Monday afternoon and turned them away so I asked for his manager who did it immediately and corrected his misinformation.

    • Same problem, about to head to another Officeworks chick wouldn't do it cos she couldn't match a part number. ridiculous.

      • I’ve got a receipt if that helps

        • +1

Cheers mate, but not a problem at the second one I went too.

  • Nice one, price matched at OW :)

  • Tried Officeworks for price beat she refused cos they couldn't match a part number!? About to go try another one…

  • +3

AirPods arrived today. Setup and working well.

A nice, unexpected bonus was 6 months of Apple Music for free!
My kids tell me it's not as good as Spotify but gee I like the price :)

  • Not expired btw

    • +1

Fixed, one of the admins put a seemingly random expiration date.

  • Looks OW has changed priced to $299 as well.

and they cant beat price for vchainau.com
    https://www.vchainstoreau.com/product/apple-airpods-pro-2021…

as they are based out of Hongkong

    • Amazon has raised there price to $325 and officeworks is $328
      Ive marked as expired.
