  • Anyone gone from Origin to ABB on HFC? Any issues?

    • Following

      • Tried it now I'm home, getting error code not valid. Seems to be a recurring thing in the thread for others on Origin.

        • did you end up calling ABB?

I signed up for AussieBB a week ago and this offer just came up, called the service desk and asked if this discount can be applied to my new account - they said they should be able to do it and will get back to me - putting this here as FYI for anyone else in same boat

Update: AussieBB just called me back, said they have added the free month onto my service - great customer service!

      • I had a similar experience via email last year. No idea why they couldn't apply the code. It had been more than six months since I was last with them. They just added it after I had signed up.

  • Just checked Launtel price after reading the comments above, they are even more expensive than ABB (which is expensive without discount/free month). I have been with ABB> Superloop> ABB> Swoop> Exeltel now, none of them is laggy or bad (speed 100-1000). Just couldn’t pay $100+/month on nbn that 100 or below. May go back to ABB for few months then Superloop when I am a new customer

    • Launtel is cheaper for 1000/50 but more expensive for the other plans compared to ABB. That's based on a month with 30.416 days in it.

  • I'm new to this swapping providers,
I have HFC nbn, what router/modem is best to ise with any provider.
Landline is still i use by elderly mother!!

    Currently with Optus

    😊

Your current modem should work with any provider if you are happy enough with it. Otherwise, you can buy any router (you don’t actually need a modem for hfc/FTTP). I suggest mesh wifi routers if you have a biggish house as you can connect multiple routers easily for better coverage.

  • If one has previously got one month free from Origin Broadband, will they be able to get this one month free anyway. Asking this because I hear ABB and Origin are the same?

  • I get the following error

"The promo code needs to be quoted and accepted at the time of sale for it to be applied to an account. "

    What gives?

Called up and was told the code "MOVING" is valid until June 30.

  • Does anyone know if these type of promotional discount stacks with the referral credits? Thinking of signing up and wondering if I should grab a random referral link.

    • +2

      Nah you can't stack codes.

  • I don't think either of these codes work anymore. None would work in the promo/referral area after selecting plan

    • Doesn't work for me either

      • Just tried, and worked for me for the 100/20 plan.

        • They must have fixed it. I had to call them this afternoon and even they couldn't apply the code when signing up via phone. Their sales team manually added it.

    1000/50?

since when did australia have gigabyte internet? is that real?

    • +1

Gigabit, which is over 100 megabytes/s and they had it all along, but they only made the wholesale price affordable enough for any retail providers to offer it two years ago. Yes, real: https://www.speedtest.net/result/13099443709

  • Can I churn from origin to abb? Or will it be a problem? @twix

    • Going by the comments the discount won't apply. By the way I never got a tag notification and that is why my reply was delayed.

  • It works for me for the AUSSIESPEED code. However, I am the first timer with them.

  • Anyone churn to ABB from Origin deal?
Seems that code is not accepted for people on Origin, will live chat sort this out?

  • Unfortunately my speed test could only achieved 200/20 with my HFC. Despite rebooting of my router modem etc. I have informed them that it is unlikely to be my end as the upload should be nearing 50 if it was. They may have mistakenly activates my plan in the 250/20. They said they have no way to check with nbn. I find that is hard to believe. I was told I have to go through complicated procedures to prove that it is not in my end. I have reasoned with them that it is obvious not as otherwise the upload would be around 50. I will move to another provider at the end of the month.

  • Seems to not be working :(

What else is good for Wireless NBN?

  • Thanks OP. I called them up as I needed to ask a few q's before signing up - they were happy to accept "MOVING' and apply the free month.

  • Is it not working already?

    • not working for me at the moment

      • Should this be marked expired then?

        • Not expired, I just signed up for 1000/50 for $0 first month using MOVING.

  • Looking to set up first NBN connection at home.
What does everyone do about a router or modem when switching between providers?

Telstra is a $200 charge, but apparently can return to store, if no longer.

But what does everyone do about this when changing?
Seems all providers try to charge you for their own router/modem

    • You don't need to purchase the ISP router, as far as I know they're always optional. If you still have the Telstra one you can use it with some other ISPs (you have to do a workaround to get it to play nice with some ISPs though)
