I have been using Kogan mobile for few months in Sydney metro. It reminds me of Vodafone network from 10 years ago. Poor/no signal, call drop. Thinking of switching.

My husband has Kogan and works really well for him (south Sydney and Cbd).

Same, im using kogan and travel a lot, 1 bar and 2 bars no signal, will switch to telstra or belong.

    • Been sim sluting on the cheap $1 kogan plans, the network is great at my school (as there is a tower right next to it) Where telstra service is non existent. Voda is really bad around the burwood-strathfield area. Otherwise it works okay. Wouldnt port my main number though.

I've used Kogan Mobile for the last 4-5 years.

    There are pro's and cons:

    Pros:
    Cheap as chips
    Easy customer support
    Easy portal to login
Cheap "refills" if you go over data

    Cons:
Reception sucks - if you stay in Metro areas you are fine, I live 50km out of Melb CBD and have fine reception. As soon as I hit country it dissapears.

Been sim slutting with Kogan for a long time on a secondary sim and get poor signal even in metro area a lot of the time. Also frequently get very slow speeds for data.

I get the cheap vouchers ($15 for 90 days etc) so it's not too much of an issue considering what I pay but for a year/main sim, I would look elsewhere.

    • do you have a l link for 90 days voucher ? thanks

      • It says limited time, but It's been pretty much ongoing for a long time now. You have to be a "new" customer, but that just means being away from Kogan for over 30 days.

        $14.90 for 90 days - 20GB per month

        • thank you

    • Which provider do you switch to in between using Kogan Mobile as a "new" user? Do you know what's the required minimum numbe of days from last being a Kogan Mobile customer in order to be allowed signing up again as a "new" customer?

ATM both Vodafone and Optus are ripping out existing and shared infrastructure, part of the decomm of 3G network.

Many towers are down for a week or more in each locality. Check the coverage map on Optus and Vodafone to see the 'planned' and current maintenance and loss of connectivity you will encounter.

    https://www.vodafone.com.au/network/coverage-checker (includes current maintenance)
    https://www.optus.com.au/living-network/service-status

If using an MVNO, don't expect their map to be fully aware (Kogan's does, but Amaysim doesn't)

Not sure if the old 4G (LTE) kit is going, but probably, as MIMO-equipped 5G transceivers overlap on 4G spectrum. (But employ more antennae and logic to bridge multiple radios to achieve what they say is a 5G connection if your device requests it).

  • I've found Optus consistently worse than Kogan in Melb metro

  • I've been with kogan for years and very happy with their service. Over the years I've never had any reception problems unless I'm deep in the wilderness (like the alpine lakes of Tasmania, or the middle of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria).
The app and online portal are great as well, which means I don't have to call them and wait on hold.

This voucher would be perfect for me, but I'm already with kogan until July. I hope this special comes back.

    • I bought one for $100 in Feb plus free one year Kogan First. It was a better deal.

  • Can u use it to recharge existing kogan service?

    • Yes, you can.

  • +1

Kogan has esim now. That's pretty cool.

  • Ive been with kogan for past 5/6 years (using it through school&uni so not heavy usage). basically everytime i go on a holiday to the coast, reception tends to be terrible. But other than that ive never really had problems (Canberra).

  • Does this work for existing users?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Very happy with Telechoice on the Telstra network (GC).. seldom have ANY issues .. :-) .. !!

Still enjoying my 1 penny per month plan.

    • +1

Yes that was unreal and I also managed to get some for my husband and daughter. Also using the $1 for an ipad (just start new plan when needed) as no recharge is allowed.

  • anyone used it overseas?
I mean would you be able to receive TXT messages free of charge while overseas like from the bank?

I just switched from Aldi to Kogan and it seems a good decision. A family plan of 4 now costs half, from 70/mo aldi, down to 32/mo kogan. Given that we don't go out much and always use wifi.

    • +1

Yes if you don’t use much data Much better switching and saving. Also catch/coles offer good deals for low data users.
I thought the Aldi family plan was $80 a month? Very expensive for only 88 shared gb on 4 sims. Especially if you don’t need all that data.

  • What happens if i use it on top of my existing prepaid recharge? Will it replace it or extend it?

    • Replace it. Never add a new voucher if you have days/data left as Kogan wipes them out .

  • I have question and hope can get an answer here. Thanks in advance!!!
About this "Kogan Mobile (Vodafone Network) 365 Days 100GB SMALL FLEX Prepaid Plan $99", Is it for the NEW CUSTOMER only?

    • Also recharge

  • +1

Just recharged my kids' phones, it says 150GB instead of 100.

    • Wow, that’s very nice
