Sony XR65X90J 65" X90J 4K BRAVIA XR Google TV $1835.40 + Delivery @ The Good Guys eBay

TOPITUP

Been waiting for a nice price on this TV for a little bit, seemed like the right moment to pull the trigger for me albeit I don't know if it will go lower at EOFY. But the Ebay voucher is what seems to have put it over the top for me. Price for TV was like around $2200 a week or two ago.

Great tv goes well with the PS5 now that VRR has been added. I picked it up for $1,500 through the Sony education portal but it’s still worth it at this price.

    • Yeh I heard about that, such a crazy price but by the time I went to check they stopped selling.

    • Same here. Bought at 1500 from their edu store. No complaints about the screen quality. Dunno about the Good Guys but the Sony customer service is miles better than the Samsung edu store. Had an issue connecting the remote and they quickly sent a new remote after some troubleshooting.

What's the hype about VRR? I'm yet to play a PS5 game that has 120 fps.

      • +4

My understanding is that VRR means the TV can match the frame output from the PS5, which reduces stuttering and screen tearing.

        • Never had screen tearing or stuttering without it, and Sony's vrr disables local dimming

          • +1

@buckster: Elden Ring is full of stuttering without VRR, the framerate (in ‘prioritise framerate’ setting) is below 60fps nearly all the time. VRR made a massive difference to that game.
It’s game specific tho, so if the game was already hitting constant 60 or 120 fps you won’t notice anything. Games that run at constant 30 fps might see some benefit too if they can run now at unlocked frame rates above the PS5 VRR lower threshold of 48 fps.

            • @sickaunt: Agree to this, when vrr is on it does disable local dimming but the visual cost isn’t too bad.

Everything I read about the X90J is that is has pretty average input lag and not recommended if your primary purpose is gaming …

        • I had one - returned it due to Sony taking too long to roll out VRR. Found it to be very good for gaming, with great input lag. Unsure if VRR makes it worse.

          • @sickaunt: No input lag issues here , can be a sound lag if you leave certain sound processing options on when using atmos. Fine when you turn them off

    • +2

On this TV, VRR disables local dimming.

Here’s an idea… if you are planning on using this TV for gaming, why not save some $$$, and get the X85J which doesn’t offer local dimming at all, but supports VRR @ 120Hz?

      • if all you are doing is playing games then sure, but local dimming is an excellent feature to have for everything else,

    • +1

1500 for 65 through the edu store? awesome price that!

    • Could you please share Sony Education portal URL? Thanks.

Just got delivery of my 75X90J earlier this week. Love the tv!

  • Have a Hisense 55n6 that's been very good but now has a bottom left shadow square (about 20%) that was only a rectangle (at say 10%) last week. It's growing… Any idea what is causing it? I am happy to fix it if it is just replacing a board or something I can get for $200 or less.

    • +1

Sounds like a failing backlight on that specific local dimming zone

    • What a coincidence, my almost 3 year old 65R8 just happened to have black shadow on the lower left side today. Should be covered under warranty if not maybe should start thinking this deal….

  • Would OLED 55 A80J better if its on the similar price?

    https://store.sony.com.au/television-OLED/XR55A80J.html#star…

    • +1

      Of course

    • +1

The OLED's are much better. The deciding factor is what size screen you want tbh.

    • Its great for movies but if you are a gamer then go for C1.

  • Looking for one of these also, but $130 postage is a joke. Still feel like we can do much better on this TV.

When do the EOFY sales usually start to show up ?

    • +1

When I Wayback Machine JB Hi-Fi the EOFY deals seem to show up around 5th of June onwards.

  • Sony will price match, plus free shipping plus give you a $30 off for the newsletter.

    • Plus you can stack with Sony cashback

  • Any idea why the code can't be applied to other items on goodguys ebay?

  • +1

I'd like to see someone get Sony to price match this, beat it by $30 and do the free delivery for around $1800 …. let us know

    • last time with the afterpay deal, i got sony to price match via their website and they did indeed give an extra $30 off. Others got sony to price match via their chat on the website.

The deal was subsequently beat by the edu deal and i got my credit card's price guarantee to reimburse me the difference.

Unsure if this is the same model but maybe cheaper at Costco if you have membership:

    https://www.costco.com.au/c/Sony-65-Inch-BRAVIA-XR-Full-Arra…

Bought for $1.5k on the Sony education store and they cancelled the order and were a pain to deal with… Waiting for LG C1 deal now.

    • Oh that's good, with a membership +$60 that comes to $1819.

    • Yes that costco price $1,759.99 is the 65" X90J. Getting better.

    • Good find! Do you think JB or Sony would price match if you could prove you had a Costco membership? I have one, but would prefer to buy through JB as I have a $500 GC from the Telstra deal a few months back.

      • +2

I tried with Good Guys and JB, but they wouldn't match that Costco price for me.

      • +2

I have been able to get Sony to price match the Costco price

    • +1

Managed to price match at the good guys chadstone vic. Including free delivery 😄

Had to use good guys credit and zip promo, that’s why i went with the good guys.

  • Is Sony's TV wifi still broken and requires a restart etc?

    • +2

My 1 month old x90j was dropping out the wifi, but I've managed to fix it with a static IP.

    • Mine constantly drops out. I have tried everything to fix it and even logged a fault with Sony. They say it's a known bug and are working on a software fix.
This was 3 weeks ago. How long do we wait on them to fix a broken product?

The TV is great otherwise. But this wifi drop out issue sucks.

      • +2

Enable Simple IP control in the network settings. Your wifi won't drop out then

        • This worked on my set!

      • Had wifi and ethernet issues on my X90H, even after updates and factory resets. Ended up buying a USB to gig ethernet adapter, has been solid as a rock since I put that in.

      • This seems rediculous for a 12 month old TV that already got a VRR update and they still havent fixed a basic WiFi issue.

    • +1

Enable Simple IP control in the network settings. Your wifi won't drop out then

      • I read that simple IP control substantially increases power consumption while the TV is not turned on. Just keep that in mind.

        • "substantial" is only relative to what it uses in standby with no network. In the specs, it says it uses 0.5W in standby with a note saying it uses more if network is on. A typical wi-fi router uses between 2W to 10W, I expect the TV's wifi network to use probably 5W. So yeah, 5W is "substantially" more than 0.5W, but 5W is nothing in terms of power consumption.

          • @gooseberry: Thanks for the answer. You are likely right. Shame that Sony makes us discuss it.

  • this or the Samsung QN85B?

  • -1

    85"?

    • +2

      No, this is a 65"

  • +2

Pls give us 75inch tv deal

    • Got one brand new in box. Never opened. Wife wanted the frame TV instead. Message me if interested. Its in Melbourne VIC

  • dunno the difference from XR65X90J but we paid $3000 delivered for a XR65A80J just 5 months ago

meh - seems to say A80J is better than X90J - you do the math -

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-x90j-vs-sony-a8…

    • oh course OLED > LED, you pay for it of course, $1K extra in this case

    • A80J is OLED hence the price difference

  • Got the 75 inch for $1950 other week. Was on sale at Sony.

    • Education store offer?

      • yeah but need edu acct for that. which I dont have one.

  • +2

Just found that the Sony Store on Amazon AU sells it for A$ 1,759.99.

    • Yo that's nice, i'm gonna try cancel my order now haha.

    • Good find. Plus 4% CB on electronics.

      • How do you get 4% CashBack ? Are u talking about CashRewards ? It says TV's are excluded from Amazon CashBack :(

        https://www.cashrewards.com.au/amazon-australia

        Anyone know working CashBack ?

        • Yes cashrewards. But I don't see TV's listed as an exclusion?

        • Yeah I see it now - not listed as a 0% category but in the paragraph at the top:
          Electronics
          4% cashback
Bluetooth Speakers, Bluetooth Head & Earphone, Stereo Components, Speakers, Other Electronics
Exclusions: TVs & Accessories, Computers & Accessories, Printers, Projectors, Musical/Recording Equipment, Blu-ray Players, Projectors, Game Consoles, Mobile Phones & Accessories, Home Automation, Soundbars, Smart Watches

  • +1

Sony happy to price match Costco
7% cashback at Cash rewards plus $50 statement credit through Amex today.
    Sub $1600 today only

    • That's some hustling, how does the Cash Rewards work?

  • Sony's warranty and after sales service worries me :( $1750 might be an ok'ish price, but I still feel like its over-priced.

Countless stories of Sony TV's with < 2Y fail, then Sony will offer you a 30% discount on a new model, instead of honoring consumer gaurantees, google … dont take my word for it.

Then, there's this guy who walks around best buys in the US and documents the 'most returned brand' and its always Sony :(

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwlRfdOyLqs

Not laying hate on Sony, just sharing what i've found after a lot of research, beginning to think they are relying on their old 90s, 2000s reputation and its just not any more.
