On the other hand though this current price feels a little more fair and in-line of what expansion packs cost, considering the sheer amount of new content and QoL fixes/changes this has over vanilla P5.
You'd really want to replay Royal from the beginning anyway since a good bulk of the changes are actually ingrained and littered throughout the whole narrative, not just tacked on at the end.
I rebought Royal when it was about $50 and don't regret putting another ~200hrs into the similar but vastly improved game.
Yup agreed, I played the original around a year ago and picked up Royal recently. There's a lot of features I don't remember being in the original game (improved areas, palaces and battle mechanics) that make it pretty fun a second time through.
Every time this game goes on sale I think "do I actually want to play this game again, or do I just think I want to play it again and will give up on it after 2 hours".
Even $35 is a big ask for that since I bought it at full price on release.
It is a big improvement on the base game. While I agree that it probably should have been a DLC, I did really enjoy Royal. I played them 3 years apart so I had a pretty good experience second time going through the same stuff because I don't remember things too well and it just felt like a nice reminder.
this is me as well at the moment. I'm not knocking the franchise, P5 is a great game, I'm still at the end-game and yet to complete it because I was grinding for stuff. thats about when royal came about which took the wind out of my sails… I remember saying why do i even bother? as i looked at all the improvements including the "QoL" ones that are missing in the original P5.
if people didnt play P5 before, then absolutely $35 is a fantastic deal.
but for me, even $35 gets me another completely different game, eg the pokemon or some other ones floating about this week. And being older and I don't intend to have infants to look after on parental leave.. the chances of me going back to this game for another grind is near 0.
I paid full price for the PS4 version and again for the 4K Royale version. I still haven't finished it. I don't have the DLC but it doesn't give me the option to buy this because I already own Royale regular edition. I see there's also an Ultimate edition, which must have more than the Deluxe edition. So many editions of this game..
Same! I feel like the next game should just be called persona 6 beta to be more accurate because they've done this to almost all the games now.
Wish there was a PC port of this game. It's definitely not my thing but I've heard so much praise about it I do want to give it a try
You could always try Persona 4 Golden on PC. Shows it's age graphically, but the story and gameplay are arguably just as good.
Yeah P4 Golden us the best game in the series IMO.
Definitely worth the $30 or whatever it is.
I sometimes wish Golden can get an UI remake. Persons 5 was fantastic largely thanks to the stylistic ui, it was a joy simply to navigate the menu. Had p4 have such a fantastic ui, I bet it would've been as beloved as p5.
Good call. I would be there day one, even at full new game retail price, for a P4 Golden re-release with P5's UI and (very importantly) the original Japanese voice soundtrack. I had to bail out of P4 early because I just couldn't take the ridiculous English dub.
@carlscott1982: Lol I actually enjoy the English dub, with exception of Riegal's teddie. i especially have a soft spot for Fitzgerald's Chie, but that's probably because I also really like Noire from Neptunia lol.
@Wonderfool: Haha yep, I hear a lot of people like it. I think its a "you had to be there" situation…? I came to Person 4 after I had already gone through P5 twice in Japanese, and I just couldn't get used to it. I think it was Chie who finally broke me actually :D
I loved P5 so gave P4G a go on PC. After getting used to chain attacks on P5, I found battles in P4 so repetitive and grindy so I stopped after 20 hours.

I just started playing P5 on PS5. I noticed that P5R is 4K… hmm
The jump from 1080p/30fps to 4K/30fps makes the game looks HUGELY better. It's like day and night. P5 Royal is well worth it if you have a PS4 Pro or PS5.
Now if only they released a 4K/60fps patch for PS5…
You convinced me to grab this deal and skip through to where I was up to. Sooo much crispier and some nice QOL changes already noticeable.
Does it have a 60fps mode? I’m tempted to grab this deal, but since gaming on 3080 for the last year I can’t play anything at 30 fps now. Gotta be 45-50 minimum
Nope, it’s still locked to 30fps. Sadly, I doubt they will ever update the game for the PS5.
@deadpoet: Cool, thanks. Could use BFI on my TV to smoothen out the visual experience, except for the fact it doesn't work when ALLM is on and currently the PS5 doesn't have a switch to disable ALLM. Which is dumb of Sony tbh but hopefully they fix it soon and I can enjoy Persona 5 while being a snobby prick hahaha.
Bought the disc version a month ago for $43 form amazon, so that might be a better option due to the resell value.
It will get a PC version soon. Nothing in stone yet but 4 Golden got one and I can see this being next off the rank
Bit optimistic from Atlus which has a track record of not porting. They have teased persona series on switch by sending surveys to gauge interest
Persona 4 golden took 8 years until it came to PC. With that in mind and the track record of literally any jap dev on pc ports….don't think it's coming anytime soon lol
I'll believe it when Atlus say so themselves. I'm still waiting for P3 and Megami Tensei Survivor series lol.
