[VIC] Get $250 Payment When You Compare Energy Provider Offers @ Victorian Energy Compare (1 Per Household)

10521

The Victorian Government has announced today that from July 1, 2022, if you use the Victorian Energy Compare website to see if there are better energy deals available for you, the Government will give you $250, even if you don’t end up switching to a new provider. It’s essentially a $250 payment to every household in Victoria (with a limit of 1 payment per household) by filling out a form which takes a few minutes. (Which is why I have not marked it as a freebie).

@payton: Even if he is, I am in a safe Labor seat so all good.

I have moved anyway, but he looks as small as ever the last time I saw him 😂😂

                • -1

                  @iNeed2Pee:

I am in a safe Labor seat

                  User name checks out…

                  • @jv: I wonder what the origin of checks out is. Do you know JV? The etymology of checks out?

        • +1

but would be happy to take this $250 and continue to talk cra

We have no choice, because he is going to tax us to pay for this scam scheme…

          • @jv: Are the dots binding? Asking for a friend.

    • Yep, and will VOTE HIM OUT! #NEVERFORGET

Btw, I'm not even antivaxxers or anti mandate. Already had my double jab too.

      • Yes, vote in Guy. A guy who has already been beaten by him, and will be beat again:)

      • +2

And the other option is a guy who had lobster dinner with a mafia boss

Geez for all those who are questioning eligibility (for non concession types), here it is in black and white from the FAQs. Everyone with an account is eligible for this pork barelling exercise.
PS: I have no issue with pork barelling as long as I'm getting something .. as opposed to the usual paying for everyone else's pork through my taxes.

Who is eligible for the new $250 Power Saving Bonus?
From 1 July 2022, the $250 Power Saving Bonus eligibility criteria will include all Victorians households. To be eligible for the new $250 Power Saving Bonus, Victorian households will need to:

Have a recent residential electricity bill and be the account holder for that bill.
Visit the Victorian Energy Compare website or engage with an energy affordability service through one of our participating community outreach partners.

Geez for all those who didn't read the post or link are questioning eligibility (for non concession types)

Nothing like a Victorian government OzB deal to trigger JV.

  • +1

Just put the $250 offer in, for this year in for my Mum.

I guess another $250 in June.

  • I've always just used www.energymadeeasy.gov.au - it's how I found my current provider.

  • As someone who has just installed solar, does this compare website help me out in picking the right plan for me?

    • +1

You won't necessarily get the absolute best deal.
There are some edge cases where you'll be better off on the 3rd or 4th plan down the list.
But that'll take some serious analysis to determine.

I usually download my data in csv format from the energy principal (United Energy in my case) and crunch the numbers that way.

You won't go too wrong with the compare website though.

  • Where do you apply from?

  • If your in QLD you are `^ where power prices are about to go . No saving yah .

    • some people might have to start emulating you, aka rorting the absolute shit of all deals that came through ozb and become a reseller

  • Live with landlord. We share bills but it’s his name on all bills. He will know this deal sooner or later and I don’t think he will share it with me. What’s a proper way that I can ask to share the $250 without being rude?

    • +1

Pay $125 less your next power/gas bill after the deal gone live.

      • That’s not good communication is it lol

    • become the landlord

  • my service provider is not even on the list lol

  • Last time I got this from the Vic Govt the cheque came from Sydney. Why is the Vic Govt outsourcing this to NSW?

    • +2

VIC govt saves a fortune offshoring to the 3rd world

It's a decent comparison site that can help cut through the BS marketing deals that utility agencies have been inundating us for years but this is not the way to promote it. At the end of the day this is a waste of tax payers money attempting to buy your vote. The whole premise of the offer does not make sense. As a Victorian I find the sitting government offers & incentives, past and present, sleazy and without any long lasting benefit to the residents. Future generations will have to pay for this and I find it deplorable.

    • +1

Cool. By not partaking, you are reducing the amount of government debt that the rest of us (and you) will need to service.
      Thanks.

      • +1

they will find other ways to waste that money so might as well be paying back to me.

    • -1

Future generations will have to pay for this

Not really. What did you learned from last 2 years? Government can print money whenever they want how much they want. Nobody is going to pay back.

  • +2

    Free money.
    Yay.
Wait that's what leads us to high inflation now, isn't it?

    • +1

      No that's someone else's fault.

      Every time.

  • Does this mean if I have 3 houses I can claim 3x250?

  • Thanks for the $250 Dan

  • Should be noted at top of the page. Doesn't apply if you are not one of these….

You must be receiving payments under one of the following concession programs:
    Centrelink Pensioner Concession
JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, Austudy or Abstudy
Department of Veterans Affairs Pensioner Concession
Or hold a Department of Veterans Affairs Gold Card

    • +2

      Er, that's the old program.

The new one has no such restrictions and also does not start for another 42 days.

The Victorian Government has announced a new $250 Power Saving Bonus program for all Victorian households. From 1 July 2022, you can access the new $250 program by visiting the Victorian Energy Compare website and submitting an application.

      • So the website will be updated 1st of July?, I just went to go to deal and that's what I read… Thanks..

  • Currently $250 for Pensioner Concession Card holders and some Health Care Card holders (including JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, Austudy and Abstudy recipients) only. After July 1st new offer comes into play.

  • no update yet :(

    • +2

      We're a month away from 1st July so…

      • oops my bad I thought its 1st June :(

  • +1

Looking for hopefully a better or locked in plan for the next 12 months in the next few days (b4 july 1) if I use this website now and convert to a new supplier, can i use the website again after july 1 and get the 250 clams? Can't work this bit out.

    • +2

You don't have to actually switch to get the 250, just have to compare. If you have Cashrewards, you can switch for a 12 month locked in rate, and earn 70 bucks for your trouble.

      • Hi, could you please explain how can you actually do this with Cashrewards?

        • +1

Use Victorian Energy Compare to compare and get the $250. Go to Cashrewards site and maybe other deal sites and look up the company showing the best rate for you. If they are listed sign up through Cashrewards and get the cashback. Also try Shopback. Google the company and special deal to see if any offers. Woolworths rewards also have energy offers.

  • +2

Can we please stick with the topic of the offer. Rather than political debates on who did/does what.

  • Applied - wouldn't accept my retailer's bill so had to enter information manually

  • Submitted my application

  • That was painless. Let's see if it goes through.

  • +1

Pretty strange that you can't enter your NMI for this VEC bonus.
Its not really as useful as the non bonus search.
    Anyway, free $250!

    • It scrapes the NMI from the bill.

  • +1

Came to see if anyone had any suggestions for QLD to get a better energy deal but so much political nonsense!

    • +1

Yeah Qld deals seem fairly 💩 at the moment. I’m hoping the increase in price leads to some increased FIT tariffs sooner rather than later.

  • Thanks op

  • -5

yay…free stuff that we pay for though higher taxes! winning!

    • +4

The LNP were the highest taxing government of all time yet they also smashed our health services as be cut universities etc.

With the LNP, it's their mates that are winning. At least with the others, it's us.

      • +2

I would mash the + button a hundred times if I could. Perfectly said.

  • +2

    504 timeout

    • I got same error, but only after application seemed to go through. I got the "(APS) Power Saving Bonus - Application Submitted " confirmation email so hopefully that is enough.

Maybe website is overloaded with everyone cashing in.

  • Still cant beat Family n friends rate. Thanks for the the 250.

  • +1

Easy work. I was already on the best offer. Thanks

    • Agreed, that was probably the best hourly earnings I've ever had - I'm somehow on an offer that's $130/yr cheaper than the best offer today… 🤪

  • +6

This site goes nuts over a $2.75 saving
Who's the one person who negged a $250 handout?

  • 1 per person per household?

Site getting slammed… there's no time limit is there? why the hurry

    • +1

Probably want to get their $250 before the state of Victoria declares bankruptcy.

  • Need one for NSW

  • +3

    Happy to have the $250

While there also found 4 companies around $400 cheaper (per year) than what I'm currently paying
Also the search on the site is actually decent compared to those comparison sites that just seem to data mine people -_-

    Win Win

  • +3

Claim $250 using Vic Gov Energy Compare site
Use Shopback energy compare feature and try to find a provider in the same ballpark of costs that gov is offering.

    Shopback deal is currently:
    New Gas & Electricity Signups
    $171.00
    New Electricity Signups
    $108.00
    New Gas Signups
    $63.00

  • -5

Money management from Vic Govt remains non existent.

When they finally go, the audit results will be catastrophic.

    • +2

Nope, that's Morrison and the LNP.

  • +1

A heads up that this is a different scheme from the 2020/2021 concession card holder $250 bonus. So if you applied for the concession card holder one, you are eligible to submit another application for this round.

  • +4

This is Ozbargain. Why are we complaining about free money?

    • -4

should be means tested 180K household

  • have been with Globird for a while and they better others rates and i just send them an email here and there to update me to the best rate and it seems to be the best one even after comparing.

    • Globirds rates are about to be severely jacked up next month be aware..

      • More than the rest?

    • I just moved from Globrid to lumo - same rates but fixed rate until Aug 2023.

Globirds rate for new customers is almost double what i was on, so increases are on the way.

      • I'm in the same boat and thinking of doing the same. But can't get a straight answer. Do you know if you get charged a fee or something if you decide to move again before Aug 2023?

        • Nah, not exit fees.

      • Not sure how good Lumo is… a lot of bad reviews - https://www.google.com/search?q=lumo+energy&oq=lumo+energy+&…

        • Meh, happy with Lumo so far. Happy to take the risk and lock in a good price than sit back and watch my rates double.

  • Has anyone had any luck getting their retailer to switch them to a flat rate? The best deals that are coming up in the Compare website seem to be flat rate ones. I contacted United Energy who referred me to my retailer. Then my retailer referred me to United Energy. I'm stuck in an infinite loop. Is there an Ombudsman to complain to?

    • Are you on a smart meter?

  • Am I elligible if I only own a block of land with my name and all you get is water bills…. &council rate?

  • +1

Has anyone tried the comparison tool? I uploaded my PDF bill and clicked around but it's not straightforward.

  • I uploaded mine and everything went smoothly. I'm paying about $150 per year more than what they have on their list but I'm happy with AGL in my area and not worth the hassle to move over :)

  • +2

Anyone else just stuck at the 'next' button after putting in bank details?

    • +1

      yep :(

    • Yup

    • Yep, it's still dead. Government doesn't work weekends :-)

  • Is anyone on embedded network like I am and managed to claim? FAQ says we are eligible but I couldn't fill in any extra information and only got an auto email saying that my claim is being reviewed.

    • You should still get a cheque in the mail. I used to be on an embedded network and I was able to claim the previous $50 bonus

      • this time they asked for ur bank details so not a cheque like last time

        • +1

Just went through the process, wasn't asked for my bank details so I think they will still send you a cheque if you're on embedded network

          • @firestint: Correct, for some reason those on Embedded Networks will get sent a cheque. No bank transfer.
