    • What are the benefits to jailbreaking a kindle?

You are not tied to Amazon ecosystem. No need to mess about converting ebooks to the right format.

I have an old paper white kindle and the battery died because I never used it enough. iPad/android tablets are such a better option. You can do so much more.

E-ink screens are a lot easier on the eyes if you're reading for long periods, and battery life is significantly better.

The fact that you can do more with an iPad is exactly why they aren't good. Too many distractions that prevent you from immersing yourself in a book. I much prefer my Kindle for reading.

      • Actually I am not an avid reader (Netflix/gaming addict). I use it to read techincal books. And the code (software) dont align well on the low res screen of my old kindle (not sure of the new one). And when I have a doubt, its so much easier to open the web browser and search for answers. Yes its distracting, but whether you call it distraction or an advantage depends on your ability to concentrate. I also watch tutorial videos iPad. So much more convinient.

They both have their advantages and disadvantages, tablets are more versatile and a reasonable "good for most things" solution, e-readers are a more specialized device that's great at what it's designed to do. I have both (and TBH, I rarely use either of them), but I got my Kindle for xmas and I don't think I've charged it since I got it and it was still at 75% on the weekend.

Agree that tablets are better for technical books.

If you're not reading many non-technical books, an eReader is probably not the best thing for your anyway.

Tablets are a terrible option for reading fiction or text-heavy nonfiction. The only time I don't use my kindle is for textbooks (where you might want to zoom or jump quickly between pages/indices/etcc) or things that I want to mark-up.

Weird thing to say. Different device for a different purpose.

"but my use case is the only valid one, everyone else is wrong"

I agree but 229 is a lot of money for what it does.

        • I mean yeah. You're not a reader, like you said, of course it wouldn't be worth it for you. Move along?

    • Same battery issues on an iPad or tablet, but worse, as you've got less capacity to begin with.

My 10yr old Kindle's battery is way down from what it used to be (which was weeks and weeks), but it still get's me 5-7 days.

  • I wonder if there will be a new Oasis before the end of the year…..?
