Cheapest price according to CamelX3. Local stock sold and shipped by Amazon AU.

Perfect for adding extra storage to your PS5.

Upon re-reading the terms for the Steam wallet promotion, I believe this is not eligible for the $40 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/694422) as the Amazon store has an asterix which says "Portable SSD T7 Touch and T7 models only".

You can claim $40 for your Steam wallet

If you look at the T&Cs, it says this with a tiny asterisks:-

    • Portable SSD T7 Touch & T7 models only. Excludes SSD 980 PRO, 970 EVO Plus, 870 EVO and
      870 QVO models
    • +7

This is the NVMe m.2 version with heatsink, not the SSD. It should be included.

Edit: model number matches the cash back eligible product MZ-V8P1T0CW

      • +4

Yes the model is included, but under "Participating Stores" Amazon has an asterix which says "Portable SSD T7 Touch & T7 models only. Excludes SSD 980 PRO, 970 EVO Plus, 870 EVO and 870 QVO models."

        • Yeah i just had a read of the pdf & think you're right.

  • Can you remove the heatsink?

    • Yes

You need a pentalobe screwdriver and to need to remove sticky thermal pads

  • yep I have the 2TB Samsung 980 Pro works great in the PS5 had it since last year when they finaly enabled the M.2 slot.

    • Would you say 2TB is overkill since the PS5 already has 825GB storage? I can't decide between 1TB or 2TB

      • +5

I would say that if you are buying external storage, 2TB is the only option really unless you like downloading things over and over again or never go back to replay older games.

The 825GB is only 667GB of usable storage for Games, and with many being around the 100GB mark, that fills real fast. I am currently running my PS5 with an external 1TB SSD for PS4 games and the onboard storage and am still perpetually out of space. I considered a 1TB but I am waiting until my budget allows for a 2TB internal, as I feel 1TB will only be a stopgap.

        • -5

external drives on a ps5 do not allow you to play the game directly like an internal drive does

          • +2

@kungfuman: That must be why they are using it for PS4 games.

          • +3

@kungfuman: You can very much play PS4 games from external drives.

My current set up, while waiting for gen4 prices to drop, is all of my PS4 games that I play now days are on a 500gb T7 I got cheap, and I also have a bunch of PS5 games I play randomly on a 1tb t7 that I swap onto the HDD (takes about a minute or less via the USB-C port) when required.

I haven't found myself actually needing to expand the external storage and the only reason would be if I had more than ~700gb of PS5 games that I actually played so regularly that I couldn't stand waiting the ~1-2 minutes it takes to import them from the T7.

            • @lulzenberg: yeah I am talking about PS5 games. I mostly only play ps5 made games. up to about 40 ps5 games at the 80

              • +1

@kungfuman: That is why I referred to having my PS4 games on an external drive and still being out of storage, so I am waiting until my budget allows for a 2TB internal drive.

      • +2

not over kill when games are 50 to 100gb a game. some ever 200gb.

I have over 80 games on my ps5.

      • I put in 2TB HDD for my PS4 back in the day. Better to future proof a little.

    • What approximate price is the 2TB on a good day? Thinking of holding out for it over this 1TB.

I'm very seriously underwhelmed by what my PS5 holds storage wise now. If this is just approximately doubling it, that doesn't seem like anywhere near enough. Duration of game install/uninstall irks me. First world problems, I guess.

      • good day your looking at under 400 maybe ever under 350 if your lucky 2tb is droping.

      • +1

Well I guess today is a good day for you

Can also price match at JB if you prefer dealing with them.

Does this one need firmware update? I have no computer with compatible slot so that would be a dealbreaker for me

    • There is a review on Amazon from 14 March 2022 which says "New model doesn't need firmware upgrade. Getting 6500 out of box for Playstation 5."
So hopefully this means you should be OK. (I'm in the same boat)

    • FYI you can buy USB M.2 enclosures and use them that way. Of course, you won't be getting the maximum speed because it's connected through USB

      • Can you still install games to them? I thought PS5 games could only be installed on internal storage inc. expansion slot?

        • No, they was talking about updating the m.2 firmware from their PC.

You wouldn't be able to install PS5 games because it would be using the USB speeds and not the m.2 speeds. You could probably install PS4 games though

          • +1

@FDA2021: That's what I thought. Your comments about max speed threw me off, as if they're only buying an enclosure to update the firmware then speeds don't matter as it's intended to be chucked into a PS5.

  • Oos damn…

Mwave have it for the same price but 7.99 shipping (for VIC anyway)

    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/samsung-980-pro-1tb-m2-nvme…

I got one from here as I just missed amazon.

Very nice Mwave is also 100% eligible for this drive.

    • It’s $248 plus shipping?

tried price matching with JB hifi "I'm afraid it's not possible to price match on this occasion as it's below our cost price. However, you can always give our Sales Team a call to see if they can offer any deals. You can reach them on 13 52 44"

    • Seems to be luck of the draw based on which rep you get. First time I called they refused, second rep just asked for store to be matched and sent through link within 10 secs for the 2tb version.

  • Damn I missed the boat on this one. I’m using external ssd for ps4 games and my internal storage is almost full. My budget is around $200 for 1TB internal storage expansion. What are my options now that I missed this offer? Do they run more offers? This is going to work with my ps5?
Could you guys share a reliable YouTube video to install internal storage?
I saw a video of someone trying to jail break etc it was horrible I turned it off.
