Telstra Upfront Mobile Plan Medium 80GB $65/Month $1 for The First Month ($65 Per Month Thereafter) @ Telstra

350

I found that tomorrow's Telstra Day deal on the "Telstra Upfront Mobile Plan Medium" is already active. Discount applies in cart.

I was going to post a comment on that deal, but it's been deleted due to sockpuppeting. I figured it was worth a dollar (edit: and the credit check), just so that I could have a play with Telstra's 5G network. I have no intention of continuing after the first month.

Full disclosure: I'm an EX-Telstra employee, having last worked for them in December 2019. My only association with them these days is as a hapless pre-paid mobile customer with just one pre-paid service remaining (and even that's currently in a recharge-only state).

Not seeing the $1 deal. Can you link me?

    • Starts tomorrow 1 day only

    • +1

Follow OP's link and select the Medium plan. Click 'Go to cart' and you'll see it as $1 for the first month in the cart.

  • do you have to activate it straight away?

Good question. I don't know. I opted to port in one of my "spare" numbers that's currently with Amaysim in a recharge-only state. I'm assuming that the Telstra app will nag me to activate it once they've received confirmation that it's been delivered, but I'm hoping there's some leeway. Ideally, I'd prefer not to activate it until the end of this month.

      • I tried to port my number from Boost but it says it is already with Telstra

      • Ideally, I'd prefer not to activate it until the end of this month.

Data point: Activation occurred yesterday, a week after the SIM card was delivered.

They'll run your credit not worth it IMO

Permission to conduct a credit check

Do you agree to us conducting a credit check?

    • Was just looking a that, 'upfront'… yet they still require a credit check.

      • +2

Well, it is Telstra we're talking about, after all. Having worked for them for a combined 30+ years…. um, let's just leave it at that.

All post paid sims run Credit checks, and they hit bloody hard on the credit score. I wouldn't buy this sim for $1 just for sake of 1 month of mobile plan, and end up costing myself credit enquiry.

    • Strangely I didn't get a credit check for the JB HI FI deal, and that was my first mobile plan.

      • or you didn't check the credit beauro that had received enquiry from telstra.

Showing $21 cashback from shopback worth a punt if you don't mind the credit check

  • Keeps giving me an error after the identification section.

    • +1

Telstra chat advised "The reason it is showing error is because the offer will be available tomorrow. "

      • Most of them wouldn't know if their backside was on fire. It worked for me. I wouldn't have posted it otherwise.

Try again after 1am, I guess.

Everyday is Telstra day it seems

why would you get this over the goodguys/jbhifi promos with giftcard + 10/m statement credit?

    • I'm waiting for those deals to pop up (specifically 12 month contract).
Do you think we'd get $10 credit on this deal? And, would it be worth it at $55 a month?

    • because its practically free, and theres no contract besides you perhaps having to hand the modem back. It's a $160 or so saving, 100/20 or 100/40 is expensive

LoL dont get fooled by $1 first month, its post paid,

Hence Not worth a credit check, for just sake of 1 month of mobile plan. Dude seriously just buy a disposable $1 kogan sim which is same price but prepaid but only 20 GB/ month.

And Telstra's cancellation policy (seems reasonable to me)

When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won't refund any money you've already paid and you'll need to pay out any remaining devices or accessories in full when you cancel.

    • +2

The credit check didn't bother me in the slightest, since my days of credit card churning for the bonus points are long behind me.

As for Kogan SIM's, let me check….. I have seven unactivated in my drawer, and three unused vouchers (two at 1¢ each, and the other at $1). However, none of them are going to get me 5G on Vodafone, let alone Telstra. :p

  • Be careful, no esim on these plans!

I have just moved to Vodafone from Telstra. For $65 I get unlimited data. Honestly there is no difference in network coverage. I travel weekly between southern highlands, city and blue mountain, no issues whatsoever. And to my surprise, the customer service I received when I called was 100 times better than Telstra.

    • Yeah I’ll agree Voda customer service definitely the best of the big 3 telcos. How do you find voda speed? I’m in metro WA and with Telstra and it’s a bit meh these days with speeds

      • I’m in metro WA and with Telstra and it’s a bit meh these days with speeds

We visited family in Perth recently and it was quite noticeable on Rottnest Island. Just trying to browse was so bad that I did a speed test on both Telstra (Boost, so only 4G) and Vodafone: Telstra 4G was 1.63 / 3.58 Mbps whilst Vodafone (also 4G; no 5G on Rottnest) was 86.8 / 45.0. Also bad at Perth airport: Telstra 4G was 1.14 / 0.09, Vodafone 4G was 15.1 / 16.1 and Vodafone 5G was 205 / 9.36.

    • I currently have seven services across the Telstra, Telstra Wholesale, Optus and Vodafone networks. I see vast differences, even in and around Canberra.

As for customer service, Vodafone couldn't enable VoWiFi on one of my services for some reason. They escalated it, gave me a reference number, then nothing. It still hadn't been enabled when I ported it elsewhere three weeks later.

the nbn offer also up $2 for 2 months if anyone is interested, can future date to 3/6/22 (a month i think, not sure if it'll change tmr)

    • How do you future date? Is it part of the application process?

    • +1

50k telstra points with that too

      • +1

        And $42 cashback with shopback

        • i dont see it in the term, is there a min length to be connected to get the cashback?

    • today i did it for 4/6

  • too expensive wait till jbhifi deal

    • True, JBhifi offer $400(sometimes even $500) gift card from time to time for the exact same plan.

  • They do a credit check

  • Is it possible to post-date the mobile connection?

    • "Your service with your current provider will be cancelled once you activate your SIM card. You can activate your new SIM card in the My Telstra app"

      so activation is separate

      • Can we sign up a new plan, then activate later, and transfer an existing over number over to replace it?

I believe it should be possible? Have read successes with other OZB folks with the JB Hifi deals.

Only wondering how much time we have to activate it…..

  • Could I get this plan if I'm on a contract for a $55 per month deal that I just started this month? Technically it'd be a plan 'upgrade' so it would normally be allowed but I'm not sure given the $1 thing…

You would have to try your luck with a so-called agent, their website is super dodgy at the moment as well which is fun

  • I tried to do prepaid to postpaid with a agent and they said I had to go into a store for a credit check. They used to not be like this but after all those people whinged to the TIO and ACA claiming they were mislead, I guess this is what has happened. Thanks ya pelicans
