[NSW] Free Trees from Bunnings via NSW Planning Portal (Greater Sydney Area)

1080

Free trees! In May, we are giving away over 6,000 native trees.

Tree Varieties

  • Bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus ‘endeavour’)
  • Syzygium straight and narrow (Syzygium australe)
  • Lilly pilly firescreen (Acmena smithii)
  • Blueberry ash (Elaeocarpus reticulatus)

How to Order

  1. Create a Planning Portal account or log in with your MyServiceNSW details.
  2. Once in the Planning Portal you may be taken to a page that says, “Nothing but space” or see a blank screen. Click on the blue box with three lines in the top left-hand corner of your screen or on the + (plus sign).
  3. Click on ‘Free Tree Application’.
  4. Complete the form by:
    • selecting which trees you wish to claim: you must select your trees from the drop-down list. In May we are offering 3 trees. If you select the 'one tree' option you won't be able to select your tree, please select 'Tree threes'.
    • filling in the address field: we suggest that you start by typing your street name and select your address from the drop-down list. Note that the available addresses will auto update while you continue to type. If you don’t select your address from the drop-down list, ‘Your property is not eligible for a Free Tree’ will appear.
  5. Click ‘Submit’. Once submitted you will receive a confirmation email.
  6. Wait for Bunnings to send you an activation email from [email protected]. Once you receive this email Bunnings will call, text or email to let you know your tree(s) are ready to be collected.

They already restocked? From 3 months ago? Man I just got my tree last week lol

    • +7

i haven't even got mine yet!

      • I collected a mandy and lemon last week for me and my sister.

    • Picked up mine yesterday

  • My address drop down doesn't populate on any browser :(

    • Try from chrome, unit space number space address,

    • Mine did that, had to wait until system sorted itself out. It worked eventually and put the dwarf mandarin in the garden last weekend.

      • It's working now :)

  • Whenever I log into MyService it takes me to a Case Worker page & I cant get any plants..

    • +4

See your Case Worker first. Then, just maybe, they’ll trust you to water a plant

Try clicking on New (top left) then Free Tree Application.

        Perfect, worked well!

  • Newcastle and Wollongong no longer part of NSW? I realise the rest of us plebs in the bush aren't really part of NSW but this is getting ridiculous.

    • Only for lockdowns

  • last year couldn't get from Penrith either as had to collect from a central location which was too far away to bother. Was able to this year.

  • no fruit trees this time..

i only picked up my Tahitian lime today from 3 months ago.

  • Last time was a massive PITA for no success. Not bothering to even try this time with no fruit trees on offer.

    • Blueberry Ash fruits edible, right?

      • +1

No, but they have a nice flower

    • yes i want fruit not bush!

      • +2

I hear some bushes may be edible

    • Syzygium (lilly pilly) are edible, australe being generally better than smithii imho. Obviously not a fruit like mandarin, but fun for kids and if you're committed you can make a decent jam or similar.

  • Nothing but space.

This is the third time now (ب_ب)

  • +3

Hmmmm that website is still sh!te

  • Complete waste of time filling in the form, applied last year and again this year, not a word from them. Should have known the website a complete shambles anyway. Bought one from Aldi's recent $19.99 cirtrus sale, plant doing well and even flowering now.

  • I haven't even got my tree from last one

  • To the people commenting that they haven't received theirs from the last one, I got an email yesterday saying mine is ready to pickup now, so looks like they're finally starting to fill the orders.

    • I got my email yesterday also (from the March offering). 7 days to pick it up otherwise they donate it to a school or some such.

      • Yeah I just got mine recently, my local Bunnings held it for about 2 weeks and also called me up to follow up why I haven’t picked it up lol

  • I have received text message from Seven hill Bunnings tree is ready for pickup, but I am far to there, Why is seven hill only?

    • It’s the only place above water

    • Because there are only seven hills left, you want the Double bay tree Bunnings.

  • No fruit trees :(

    • -1

I couldn’t get the fruit trees last time, sadly it gave you a selection based on your address so I heard all the Asians in chatswood had access to the fruit trees bloody oath lol

      • -3

False. Collected at Penrith and North Parramatta. Probably OOS by your claim as it depends on nursey.

    • I'm the opposite. I started an application when fruit trees were available but abandoned it until something I wanted came up. Just ordered now.

On mobile Chrome, I did the usual type address, wait, wait, wait, type one more letter, wait, wait, wait. I finally gave up and switched to desktop Chrome, wow it worked like a regular address lookup and returned a result straight away!

      • I think it's just the timing of when you do it.
Last time I was using desktop Chrome and had the wait, wait, wait experience that it sounds like you did on your mobile.

    • I am not seeing any fruit tree options either.

  • Im still waiting for my april trees…

  • I still havent got my trees yet either. Strange. Are we able to order these if we still havent received the others?

  • +1

For those not receiving the trees, try to rock up to your bunnings and check the status with their special order team

I was browsing at my local and just happen to saw trees with my name just sitting in the corner, maybe for weeks already. No emails no calls

    • +1

That might be a good idea. When I collect there was easily over 25+ samplings

  • Yup. I came on here to say the same thing, So i finally got an email to pick up my tree and my parents had an order for their house which was under my name too. So i rock up, the person says Oh that was months ago, it should all be finished, I said I only got an email 5 days ago, anyway after a bit of back and forth, she found out where it was and told me to go to the garden area to pick it up. When i went there, the person had been told i was coming to get my tree, she had one out for me and i said. hang on on this trolley i can see the trees with my names on it. And sure enough there were 2 trees with my names on it, even though my parents havent got an email for their tree, there it was waiting for them. I also noticed some of them had their leaves etc all eaten. There were like another 20-30 trees in that section still waiting to be picked up.

I think they have forgotten or havent gotten around to send off the emails to tell people to come and get it .

  • This offer is available again.

  • Just picked up my SAN01s freshly watered! Thanks OP!
