      And?

VA is better than IPS if you like decent black levels, particularly at night. VA has better contrast.

IPS glow means blacks are never even close to black. This can be annoying for graphics work, photography, gaming in dim light. Day time use is more or less the same between VA and IPS. But when the sun goes down, VA is King.

      • Outside of current-gen VA panels (afaik only in the samsung G7 & G9), there is still a notable amount of dark-level smearing.

Shouldn't really be noticeable for media consumption (& the contrast would massively outweigh it), but for gaming or scrolling through text using dark mode & smooth scrolling it might be a bit offputting.

But yes, at the budget end there are a lot of tradeoffs, and it's bad advice to just go "va bad ips good", as it highly depends on what you value.

End of the day, we'll all be embracing the OLED panels once the price comes down and the first-gen kinks are ironed out. Then we can finally leave behind the grey-shaded blacks and never mention IPS, VA or TN again!
