  • Guys, I looked at my old email account and it looks like even if you turn it to bpay, they try to charge to your payment method but fail?

Is this a normal email or not? My plan hasn't been renewed and auto-renew has been turned off. No extra data was provided to me in that time.

BTW, it doesn't seem to change to the PAYG plan automatically anymore, it's just stuck in limbo on the $12 plan. I think I might need to manually change it.

    • Checked my bank statements, no extra payments were made. I had switched the auto-renew off and to bpay as soon as I activated.

Those emails / text are very deceptively worded, even though you have turned off auto-renewal and switched to BPay.

They don't actually charge your previous CC or PayPal. They simply word as "the payment failed". Duh!

    • +1

Yes, Amaysim send an email saying it failed to automatically renew. They just want money to continue the service.
Ignore it! (I do, with no consequences.)

Nothing needs to be done. It just won't have credit for outgoing calls in that PAYG status.

As I've explained in comments here, after the included 28d plan expires, it can still receive calls & SMS for about a year without any payment. Try it!

  • Anyone recently ported their number over to Amaysim? How long did it take you?

Seems to be taking a while even though they state 1-3 days

    • +1

I ported one of my numbers from Boost to Amaysim this morning. It took a few hours.

Aldi to Amaysim, started about 11am on 30th and it started working sometime in the afternoon on 31st - so about 24 hours.

  • Porting over from Coles mobile. 1 day to port number. Still waiting on activation. Been two days without phone…

    • 1.5 days for me so far trying to port and still waiting

      Terribly slow

  • If anyone is waiting a while for their number to port I would suggest giving them a call

I waited 3 days before calling them and was told there were “network delays” and they had to resubmit the request, then it all worked within a couple minutes.

  • Is there a limit on these?

    • How much is your time worth?

    • Not sure. I just grabbed a second one from this deal, the first has back on 19 May. I’ve added it to the same amaysim account.

  • So this is good for hopping?

  • I just got an activation email and receipt with $12 charge for this service. I didn't activate the service, the sim is still sitting in its packaging. I was going to activate it next month before 17th July.
Has this happened to anyone else?
How did the service get activated and the first 28days should be $0 anyways :/

    • Unless you took steps to prevent it, the SIM card would've been activated when it was posted.

      • Oh got ya. Thanks for the reply!

  • if you order a sim with a number port, do they automatically do the porting without you needing to verify with your current mobile provider via some pin you have to reply to via SMS?

I currently have a sim card with Kogan that has no credit on it, and Kogan have put incoming call/text restrictions on the number, so I wouldn't be able to reply to confirm a porting. If you manually port out, you'd normally have to reply to Kogan with the pin number to verify that it's you. But when you have restrictions, you can't do that and have to call them. The last time I did this they couldn't sort out the problem. They said they removed the restrictions but they didn't. Tried 3 times and ended up having to recharge $16 to reactivate the service, just so I can port out.

Can Amaysim handle the porting without your input? This would save me the trouble of calling Kogan.

I'm pretty sure that you'll need to be able to receive the code via SMS, which you then enter online (ie; not reply to the SMS). About a month ago, mkh1991 was in a similar predicament, but was able to get someone at Kogan Support to resume their service for 24 hours. See https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/701936

EDIT: BTW, you only have 20 days after the credit expires on a Kogan service in which you can still receive calls and text messages. See https://help.koganmobile.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/216814378-…

      • does Amaysim send you the code after you insert the sim card, or before? I just attempted to send an SMS to that number and it couldn't be received.

You offered a recharge voucher to that person you linked to, that can recharge an existing account.. do you have any more spares?

        • I assume that you want to keep the number that's currently with Kogan. If you don't care, you can opt to get a new number from Amaysim instead.

does Amaysim send you the code after you insert the sim card, or before?

It'll be sent when you kick off the porting process, but your Kogan service won't receive it in its current state, of course.

You offered a recharge voucher to that person you linked to, that can recharge an existing account.. do you have any more spares?

Give Kogan Support another crack or two, as mkh1991 did, and if you don't have any joy, PM me. (I still have two.)

          • @Colin2905: thanks. I'll wait till the amaysim sim card arrives. Apparently mkh1991 says Kogan can only unlock your number for 24 hours. I'm just not sure if Amaysim's verification number is sent automatically when you insert the card, of if you have to request them to issue it, or if you can re-request a new number if you didn't receive it.

I hate Kogan. They are so anti-consumer with their practices. You can't even port between them and one other telco since they require 35 days away from them in order to be considered a new customer, and any 1 month plan is going to be 28-30 days only, so you have to juggle in a 3rd telco if you are sim hopping, and then keep track of the order in which you switched.

I'm trying to keep the number yes. It's a decently memorable number, but Amaysim is a perfect place to leave the number parked without credit since they have a PAYG plan that's valid for a year if you don't recharge on it.
