4 Month MUBI Subscription for $4

My first deal! Hopefully this helps give back to a community I've gotten so much from :)

As a former MUBI subscriber I received an email with the following offer:

WATCH GREAT CINEMA

For 4 days only, get 4 months of hand-picked movies for only A$4.

I don't think it's targeted but please let me know if it turns out to be.

  • What's special about mubi

    • +25

      It's only $4 for 4 months

    • Super niche.

    • +2

It has a strong emphasis on international and artistic films, from what I've seen. I think it also has a one-in, one-out daily content rotation, so there should always be something new to check out.

      • +12

It does have the one-in, one-out thing but if you scroll down from there you'll find a load of other films which hang around longer.
Arthouse, yes; foreign language, yes; cult classics, yes. Blockbusters, unlikely.

But if you want to expand your horizons, fancy seeing something you've heard about for years like La Haine; want to try some Almodovar, Pasolini or Rohmer? This is the place.

Tip: Use a VPN and you'll have an even greater list of options, especially the UK site which often seems to have some quite recent releases

        • +4

Great info! Especially the VPN tip, which I hadn't even considered.

        • +1

wow. i would have assumed MUBI had the same films worldwide! I dont know why I was under that impression. Also didn't know about the films that hang around. Thanks!

        • Loved La Haine, and all euro crime noir for lack of a better set of descriptors.

Gomorah and "a prophet" have tickled the same itch. As have city of men, city of God, top boy.

          Any others you can recommend?

  • +1

What kind of stuff can you watch on it??

    • +16

      GREAT CINEMA

    • +6

Lots of international content. Foreign films primarily. So yeah, depending on your tastes, hopefully it's exactly what Jeffie quoted 😂

        • +5

There's 6 Australian films currently showing.

        • There are Australian films. But most likely cult or classic films.
Bad Boy Bubby is there, for instance. But Muriel's Wedding isn't.

        • +1

Try using Kanopy, you can get a number of free streams each month through your local library. Has a great selection of Australian content.

That’s a joke guys. A lot of negs for a joke

          • @[Deactivated]: Funny thing about comedians is they always expect other people to have a sense of humour.

Upvoted for not asking everyone to "go easy on me"

    • +9

Oh man I knew I forgot something! 🤦

      • Stacks on. Give him hell

  • -7

$4 for 4 months of great cinema? How about I give you $2 for 8 months of mediocre cinema?

  • +3

Mubi is great if you are sick of mainstream films. My sub is paused and I didn't get this email.

    • +1

My sub was paused and I got the email. Have now used this deal

  • Always loved Mubi's selection of films but I've never been able to watch a movie on it without buffering horribly. I'm on a 100/100 plan so it shouldn't be a problem - and no other services are. Has this changed?

    • I was with MUBI a few months back and I don't recall ever having this issue on my modest broadband plan, so hopefully the horrible buffering is a thing of the past?

Edit: I still had the app installed on my phone from last time so I checked the streaming just now — no issues!

Probably worth the $4 gamble if you know you like their content :)

    • what is your internet provider and how much do you pay for 100/100 plan? I need fast upload speed but can't find any deals

      • +2

Apartment with Gigafy serving the building.. I think it's about $65 a month so an absolute steal.

        • thank you

    • Try using your VPN while watching, might be a routing issue from your ISP which a VPN will get around. Another comment here mentioned using a UK location on your VPN will give you access to a larger library of content too.

  • +1

    Looks like SBS movie?
    Mostly older movies.
You may get some good Dendy like movies in the collection?

    • SBS movies. You dirty dog you.

      • I don't get it ?

    • I was going to say the same, but you beat me to it.

      $1 per month, I'd pay.

The standard $34.99 per 3 months ($11.66 per month) or $79.99 per year ($6.67 per month)?

Not worth it for yet another streaming platform to not watch, when I could get my strange for free via SBS.

  • I thought I'll give it a go for $4. Payment via Paypal makes it easy to 'turn off' any renewal charges, even if I forgot to cancel.

Has anyone signed up and cancelled straight away? Do they let you use up the 4 months or lock you out immediately?

    • +1

      In the T&C:

      1.7 Cancellation
You may cancel your MUBI subscription at any time, and you will continue to have access to the MUBI service through the end of your billing period. We do not provide refunds or credits for any partial subscription periods. To cancel, go to the “Subscription“ section under Settings in your MUBI account. If you cancel, your subscription will automatically terminate at the end of your current billing period.

I wish I read this before I cancelled my 60 day trial in an attempt to stack the $4 for 4 months on top. 🤦‍♂️😂

      • Thanks :-)
Well, nothing lost for you, you still get to use it to the end of day 60, right?

        • Did you cancel and retain access for the 4 months?

          • @sav11: I didn't try. I'll rely on a calendar reminder.

  • +3

Absolutely love Mubi. If you like foreign, classic, art house films.

    • from me for first post
  • Damn it, I forgot to use the referral link….. :(

  • +6

I signed up yesterday, already added 90 movies to my watchlist lol. This is the best streaming service available here by a mile right now, hopefully we get the Criterion Channel one day too.

  • Yearly price $3.99/month
    Billed in one payment $47.88
    Save 43%

    Not bad

    • I don’t have that offer, only yearly price for $6.99/month, billed in one payment $83.88.

      • Same here. Annual subscription = full fare. Took $3.99 for 4 months option.

    • $3.99 per month?!

I'm not seeing where you got that from?

I can see $79.99 per year ($6.67 per month), but not the price you quote.

  • +1

Not a deal for me as I’m subscribed already! Love Mubi. Always something interesting and different, some great movies like Orlando.

    • I just watched Orlando! Loved it

  • +4

Highly recommended. At this price, If you watch 1 movie it is paid already. Also, I bet the movie will be better or more interesting on average than the one you rent or watch in other subscriptions.

  • +2

Thanks. Signed up. Missed watching these. Enjoyed violent movies by Gaspar Noe. The Korean ‘Old Boy’ is still one of my favorite movies of all time.

    • Can anyone recommend something to watch? Maybe a favourite from the last 15 years. I have watched most of the good ones from the 90s and early 00s.

  • +2

Streaming on smart TVs is limited. My Panasonic will not. If its not shown in the Apps you’re out of luck. Had the same problem with BINGE. Does not seem to be a way around it.

  • what's best free movie/show streaming siute?

    • +2

      SBS ondemand

      TubiTV

Kanopy (via public library card you can watch 3-5 movies a month depending on your library)

  • Done and I used the referral link. Have been a subscriber before. Always a great collection of films. If you're looking for the usual blockbuster dross though, probably not for you.

    • previous subscribers also got referral month free again? damn missed my bloody month
