    Hi Camerapro,

Can we have a awesome deal for the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di-II VC LD Aspherical (IF)?
this is the one with an in-built motor.

everyone will fully support this since DWI stiff many of us…
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/69379

    Many thanks

    • im sitll lookinging for a tamron 17-50mm as well =)
a good price on the non vc nikon please! =)

    • I just bought the non VC one from DWI for $320 delivered… if there is a sale I'm going to shoot myself lol. Apparently the VC one has slightly poorer image quality than the non VC one, but is more stable if you got a shaky hand or want to film.

      • yeah the deal prompted the thought in my head too…. but with a D5100 i have to get the newer version..

      • yeah its great for Coffee drinkers

    • +3

Camerapro can steal all of DWI's customers with just one deal on the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm… This could be the greatest coup in ozbargain history people.

  • +3

  • +2

I hope there is a sale for Manfrotto tripods soon!

  • Is the Canon 60D worth buying? I'm bored of my Sony A350.

    • +1

I have the Canon 60D and love it but planning up to upgrade to the Canon 5D MII next year. It's greatest advantage is it's amazing video capturing capabilities 1080p and as an all-around general use camera. But bodies get outdated, while lens can last a fair bit.

At this price it's quite cheap for Australian stock.
Bought my kit lens kit from JB HI-FI for $1000. Planning to sell my kit lens for $80 - so I paid around $920 for the body a saving of $200 if you buy it now.

Don't bother getting the kit stock lens for Canon 60D because they are SHIT SHIT SHIT - I just bought the Tamrom 17-50mm 2.8f lens for $320 from DWI (not on sale but relatively cheap).

Here's a comparison from the Canon 60D with your Sony
      http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon_EOS_60D-vs-Sony_Alpha_DSLR…

      • Why wait till next year? Do it now and enjoy full frame sensor goodnessssssssss :)

        • Still a poor uni student lol.
When I get a full time job I can afford it :)

    • As Jayteewoofed says, its all about the lenses. Ok the body adds functionality, features, megapixel count and 'intelligence', but sharpness is in the glass.

And choosing a brand is a long term decision because if you get hooked you will be looking to get decent lenses. You dont have to be a brand snob to get a decent lens these days though. In saying that the Tamron is the first non-Canon I have bought since I started out in DSLR with a 350D all those years ago.

  • website full of server errors..

  • expired… is now $125

edit: at least thats what it was listed as on the website (when i eventually got in) - not sure if this was an in-store price or not?

    • u are from 2013?

  • can't get there but great deals!

  • +2

Can anyone post ur receipt after? So ppl can try price match?

  • Save yourself $775 and stay away from the Sigma 85 1.4. Terrible QC

  • I am mad!!!!!!! Why is it only available in Queensland?
The online price is just normal price. Nothing to brag about.

    • +1

because thats where the stores are….

  • Not looking good. New store opening tomorrow and website has been showing "503 Service Unavailable" for most of the night :(

    • One has to admire the concomitant bravery & foolhardiness of a business with a questionable web server/hosting service posting a good deal on OzB! ;)

      • stew i read and reread that sentence a couple of times and i can't help but think your use of concomitant was misplaced in the sentence :p or am i reading it wrong?

        • +1

Nah, it's placed correctly…remember it can be used as either a noun or an adjective. Reread it but substitute the word 'simultaneous', that will simplify things for you.

In cases of linguistic distress like this, dictionary.com is your friend:

          con·com·i·tant/kənˈkämitənt/
          Adjective:
          Naturally accompanying or associated.
          Noun:
A phenomenon that naturally accompanies or follows something.
          Synonyms:
          adjective. attendant - accompanying
          noun. concurrent

        • +1

That example would generally be accepted as the correct usage of the adj. "concomitant", but technically you could split hairs. ;)

When using the adj. "concomitant", you are normally inferring that one thing is related to or causes the other.

          syn.
          associative
          incidental

          Eg. your quote above:

          Adjective:
          Naturally accompanying or associated.

But, yes, in daily English language usage, intricacies like this are easily forgotten.

        • -1

Yes, when it comes to semantics, linguists can split hairs ad infinitum! I would argue in this context that often throughout history, many rash & audacious acts are viewed in retrospect as bravery! Ergo, my usage stands! :p

    • loaded up fine at 7:30am this morning!

  • Can you do a Nikon 1.8 for $50

    Pwetty Pwease ;)

  • I bought a nifty from jb a while ago I think that was $80. I thought that was a great buy but $50 is awesome

  • Damn it there is a line… Luck it isn't 50 ppl deep.

  • This line up is sooooo slow!

  • How big is the line?

I was going to head down shortly, but didn't leave yet as they don't open until 10

If its growing rapidly i might skip it, hate calling in favours to leave work…

  • +1

Hmm line is about 15 deep.. Not really growing quickly..

    • Cheers Jake

  • according to their facebook page, the canon 50mm 1.8; sold out! I'm so cut I missed out on this one. :( They should have more stock

  • Yeah only had about 5 when I got to the till.. But they had a shizzer system of putting ur name on them with a sticky pad which then was getting blown off by the wind..

they should of just asked at the front and handed u one so they knew what was in stock..

I reckon there was 5 left when i was at the till and still 15 ppl behind me in store plus 10 outside..

  • +3

Bought the 50mm… waited almost an hour. I think I got one of the last few because originally they told me and 10 other people behind me they were sold out but we can pay now and pick it up on Saturday or Monday when they get more stock for $50.

Store location is quite horrible - hard to find a park.

Customer service was good apart from this guy in a black hat that was asked if they had any in stock because it'll be pointless waiting in line for nothing, he disappeared in the back, served another customer and never came back. They also offered customers waiting in line hot coffee, if only they offered hot chocolate i'd given the thumbs up lol.

  • Was nice they gave coffee and stuff… ahh cool they got my gear for Sat.

  • Well done CameraPro, online sale please!

  • Any chance of doing a sale on the sigma 30mm 1.4? Canon mount? :D Please!!!!!

  • I got there at 9.50am and joined the back of the queue. A little later the tall guy who works there came by bringing more stock in and he advised me they had sold out of the f/1.8 50mm's. Didn't realise there might be an option to order to pick up another day. Bummer!

When I drove past later (at around 10.30am) there was no longer an outside queue at all - but a fair few people lined up for service inside.

  • Got these from the store's celebration: a real bargain Canon lens, a nice coffee and real nice Canon collector lens cup!

  • +1

Can anyone please post the receipt…will try a price match at JB HI-FI

  • Bit of a bummer about the massive line. I was waiting for well over an hour. Got there at 8:55 and I think the first people to actually leave the store with their stuff left at 9:30. Who only puts two cashiers on at once? As I was finishing up my transaction they got another person doing checkout. IMO they should have had at least that many from the beginning. I was about the 25th person in line and got out around 10:15.

Right before me there was this older dude and another chick both buying a 60d plus lenses. They were grilling the cashiers for over 20 minutes. Surely some of the staff just standing around could have provided them with whatever info they required but none of the staff even bothered to ask them.

    • +2

Cause specialty stores don't really experience foot traffic large enough to warrant putting more than 2 or 3 people on the cashiers? Heck even my local HN have only 3 people on the cashiers during a sale with well over 100 people in store! The delay was probably more due to the improper assistance of floor staff rather than the lack of cashiers.

      edit:
Just realised what the cashier should've done was pass the customer onto another member or get someone else to cover him and swap roles (usually in small retail stores everyone is trained to do each other's job to a certain level or another…)

      • It wasn't like there was not enough staff there to help, because there was. They were just standing around admiring the line for a large chunk of the time (especially in that 20mins when the two people were holding things up). They could have been better utilised actually serving people or as you said, by pulling the people who need presales help aside so the people who were just there to get in and get out could do so with no fuss. Eventually they realised this but it was a little too late.

The slew of questions at checkout wasn't helpful in moving the line along either. I understand if they wanted to use this launch to build their customer database, but they were effectively getting the same details when they got people to enter their "hourly giveaway" thing while in line anyway.

Don't get me wrong, this was an amazing deal however the execution wasn't the best. Saying this, I can appreciate that the response may have been unexpected for the store but given the red carpet and fanfare out the front I'd say they had a fair idea of what they were in for :)

        • I sent my sister to get my stuff. Their customer database is probably full of errors. She used her details. They made mistakes with the mobile number, email address and customer name.

She says there was a confusion about the line inside the store. For the inconvenience she was allowed to buy an extra Canon 50mm if she wanted. She declined.
