Terrible price for a non genuine product (~ $8 per filter)

Cheaper per filter if you have a Costco membership - Currently 8x Genuine Brita Maxtra+ Filters for $55.99 (~ $7 per filter)

  • Why do people use filters anyways, water from the tap is pretty clean?

I much prefer the taste of the filtered water compared to straight from the tap, that's the only reason I do it.

      • yes, taste is different

    • Why do people use filters?

I always thought Melb water was great (lived here all but 5 years of my life). Moved to South Yarra and the tap water tastes really bad.

      Filters fix the problem.

      • Ah - so depends on the location, it seems.
Sydney water is pretty good tbh.

        • so depends on the location

I guess so, that or the water quality is declining generally and I didn't notice until moving recently.

I suspect it's to do with the property I've moved into as distinct from my location as such.

    • The plumbing from the street to your tap can be old and/or introduce contaminates as well.

the water catchments can flood and introduce contamination as well, especially during storms

      • plumbing from the street to your tap can be old and/or introduce contaminates

I accept this too, however the house I grew up in was well over 100 years old and the plumbing was original. The water was always very clean and fresh.

Come to think of it though we were about 150 metres from the reservoir so that might've played a part.

In Melbourne, it also depends on your water supplier. I've tested water in northern suburbs and total dissolved solids are approx 55ppm vs around half that in eastern suburbs.

I find that these filters remove some of the chlorine taste, and approx 5-10ppm of the total dissolved solids.

  • As noted above genuine ones are $1 more.
There are plenty of cheaper knockoffs on eBay and Amazon
