Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G 256GB $399 Upfront with Telstra 300GB/Month $79/M 24 Months (Port-in Only, in-Store Only) @ JB Hi-Fi

171

300Gb per Month Data - Unlimited Texts and Calls within Australia.

Not sure if Telstra still apply the $20 credit per month for X amount of months, but worth a try in chat with them to get it if someone goes for this deal. Saw it on the JB Hi-Fi home page and screenshot it.

Deal available until June 15th, so no need to rush I guess and can wait for other deals.

  • Nice to get the $20 discount for the whole 24 months but I think it's usually only 12 months but like OP says can only try, thanks OP 😊

Another S22 I'll be selling, nice this is a 24 months contract with 300gb of data a month (100gb of data isn't enough on the last Jbhifi deal i did), wont have to worry about re-contracting for 2 years, nice 👍😁

11 days to go, tik tok lolz

    • How do we get this $20 off per month?

      • I think they mean the $79/month is a $20 discount.
The T&C's link to the [$99 plan CIS}(https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/9803/5810/files/JB-Hi…) so I assume this deal you're getting the $99 plan discounted to $79 and 100gb extra data per month.

he is referring to this fluke where that poster managed to get a $20 port in credit on top of the jbhifi deal from telstra directly, which I've only ever seen happen for some people for $10. seems like a couple of lucky people manged to get it from the last deal but by no means should it be taken a "norm" that telstra give out

        • Tried to get an extra 10 off on a previous deal. Telstra replaced the jb 20 discount with the 10 discount and said they cant stack them

        • @ozrules OP of this thread here, I also got it on that last thread. That was the deal I got my S22 Ultra with, I put all the details below back when I got it on that thread @robf300

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12048598/redir

      • Yes true since this is already discounted by$20 the chances of getting it discounted again by $20 would be most likely impossible and im sure only for 12 months if the 24 months plan(still better then nothing),. but no harm trying and getting onto Telstra online chat and asking them,..

Well my previous jbhifi/Telstra deal I managed to get the $20 discount,.. I asked chat agent if in future if I did I sign up to another Jbhifi plan would they do this $20 discount again . She said yes and I asked her too leave notes in my account for future reference,. so I'll get on Telstra chat hopefully tonight and test with this $79 Jbhifi/Telstra plan if they could do the $20 discount well further $20 discount,. well they can only say no not possible

Anyway does get the $20 discount do post your ways managing this 👍😁

        • Hey mate, let us know if you manage to do it for this deal. $59/month would be very reasonable

  • thanks OP

  • I'm currently with telstra business. Is there a way to get this deal? do I need to buy a optus sim and port then port back anyone help me out?

    • +1

Usual rule is u need to port out for 30 days. Some jb staff dont check/dont care and you can port out for 1 day. But yes you need to be on a different provider at the minimum

      • ok thanks for that :)

        • You can port in later just use a non Telstra provider activated sim (use a $2 starter pack to get one) to at least get this deal first, then later ask Telstra to move your current number to this new jbhifi/Telstra plan and close your older current number plan (they might need to be both plans either be on personal or business accounts to transfer over number but I'm sure from business department you'll have few options to move number over, the trick first is getting this deal locked in)

          • @Italkdigital: Have you had any success with this yourself? How much of a pain is it to move my current number to the new plan and are there any time restrictions?

            Thanks

    • Fyi - these JB deals are only for personal, not business. So if you port out and back in, it'll have to be on personal plan.

I love how it’s all fair game when it’s a Telstra 24m deal but anytime it’s anybody else, a whole herd of people come jumping in saying 24m is worst than the devil.

    • 24m is a good life cycle. I much preferred this style of contract. AS you wouldnt need to pay retail cost for the phones over 24-36m like they are now.

      • Plus your locked in for 24 months for this deal instead of trying too worry about getting 2x 12 months deals, better option I think having the deal for 24 months over 12 months that's when the 24 months deal is as good as 2x 12 months deals which I think this one comes close

  • When did they start doing $20/month discount? I thought it was only ever $10?

2 year contract is OK if you're upgrading your phone at the end of every contract but I feel that plans change that often, it would be quite outdated by the end? 300GB seems massive but what were plans offering 2 years ago for the same price?

    • Would be about 80-100gb a month for same price 2 years ago

  • +18

Unless you are using this as an NBN alternative, I don't see how this is a deal? 24 X $79 is $1896…plus $400…that's about what youd pay buying the phone direct from Samsung and then paying for a phone plan. What a coincidence!

    • I agree here, 100%.

    • +4

The 256gb S22U is currently $1849 at JB.
If the total of this "deal" is $2295, that leaves $446 over 24 months for the plan. What plan can you get for $18.50 per month that has Telstra 5G access?
Even if you got the phone at a cheaper price from Samsung, say $1479 as per the EPP deal, that still only leaves $34/month for the plan.

While I wouldn't personally opt for this deal, there's still some value there. I want Telstra 5G access but don't need stupid amounts of data.

      • And has 300gb of data per month on 5G another bonus, my last Jbhifi/Telstra deal has 100gb of data (managed to get free for 12 months),.. if I wanted too I could manage with 100gb of data but already twice I've accidentally chewed up into my 100gb of data early, so another 300gb of data for me would be a bonus, this one won't be free but still cheap (what under $20 a month maybe? fir 24 months) and again has 300gb of data on 5G, yes I don't have NBN at home my data is all off 4G/5G calls/data sim plans

    • +2

I think this appeals to people who use a large amount of data (maybe an NBN backup or they're always away from home) and can't be arsed to simwhore. Also, some might want the phone cost to be distributed monthly (for investments, offset accounts, etc). Personally, I don't find this as a deal as well but it seems a lot of other people thinks it is

  • Not convinced this is a good deal, if a 12 month Telstra plan then sure!

    I do have the S22 ultra… Bannnnging phone ❤️.

  • Gift card $1450+150 price drop+ 480 Telstra monthly discounts. The total discount is $2080.
We are technically paying 95.6 per month for the s22 ultra and Telstra plan for 2 years.

  • Need to be off Telstra network for 30 days to get this deal yea? Thanks

  • +1

As long as you can ditch your NBN and have good Telstra signal this is a really good deal if you know how to work the numbers.

Real cost to get the phone is about $1350
    24 month NBN $1650
24 month MVNO mobile plan $400
    Total 3.4K over 12 month

    This deal:
    $400+(6912)+(7912)=2.2k for 24 months.

If this plan data pool (not sure), you can get a data sim and put it in an old phone at home to replace NBN.

Then there is the flexibility to have the data following you.

However highly not recommended if you stream 4K all the time. Just 3 hour a day 4K streaming come to almost 700G a month.

    • +1

      No data pool

      • +1

That sucks…Don’t know how you can burn that much data by just mobile usage and hotspoting.

Me and my wife has the Optus 500G plan plus work pay for a Voda BOYD plan with 160G. We never even go half way.

Of course if you steam 4K of the hotspot then that is a total different story.

    • Yeah, I tried to do this with the same plan with the free standard S22 the other month.

Turns out I only have Optus nearby and get no Telstra signal at all indoors, womp womp…

Just be sure before committing as cancellation is like $1800…

  • does anyone happen to have the jb trade in bonus 30% off coupon that ended on the 1st of June? forgot to get mine and seems coupon still redeemable until the 08/06/22. if anyone would be kind enough to share their one they are not using would be a huge help!

  • +1

Went in yesterday and there is absolutely no way of porting a new SIM over now. Service has to be active for 31 days due to the new teltra system.

This isn't available as a new number either which we discovered once the contract was setup.

So yesterday they gave me the phone for $1350 then applied a $900 gift card and I'm on the $79 plan. I was screwed right?

The guy said due to inconvenience whatever I wanted I could have a cost price

    • +1

so you got the phone for $450?

      • Yes so essentially $51 more than this deal because I didnt have a number to port over ☹️

You now need a non-telstra Sim for 31 days active or this new system doesn't apply the discounts to JB/GG to subsidize the phone cost.

Before you could just buy a $2 Sim and port it over. Telstra is clamping down hard.

        • Ozbargain has been Oztelstra'd

    Exynos is a deal breaker.

    • +3

There are no Exynos S22's in Australia being sold locally. S22 lineup is all Snapdragon here this year.

  • Bummer….No more 12 momtg contract.
Last yr they had the s21 for $99/month on a 12 month contract.

This promo seems better than the Jbhifi june 1 promo which is $0 upfront for s21.

For this promo: ends in june15.
Does it mean I can still have time to buy a new prepaid sim from other provider like amaysim or kogan before June 15.
Then head to jbhifi to port my prepaid sim to telstra and avail the s22 with $0 upfront on $79/month for 24 months plan ?

Or this is not possible as someone posted that I need to be 31 days with the non telstra provider before jbhifi can consider to port to telstra?

Then I have option to visit telstra store to transfer my existing telstra number (i already have a soon to end contract telstra post paid) to this new telstra postpaid plan?

    • I am not 100% sure, but I think that's not possible anymore. You have to be away for more than a month to port back in for these deals.

      • I am not goingnto port my existing telstra plan.

I am going to get a new prepaid sim let's say woth amaysim or kogan woth a new number

Then I go to jbhifi to port this amaysim or kogan to tesltra to qualify for the 0 upfront of s22 for $79/mo 24months contract.

I wait for the old tesltra contract to expire before I request to switch the old number to the new 24 months contract and cancel the old post paid since the contract already lapse.

        • Comment above says they can't port in new sims anymore. Needs to be active for 31 days prior to porting.

      • This is true. I once worked for Telstra and we tried every trick in the book. They have a new system that applies the discount to the contract now. The service must be non-telstra for 31 days ☹️

        • @neofelis I was able to port from kogan to telstra that I bought last week to avail the 0 upfront S22 JBhifi promo.
The 30 days waiting is only if you are coming from Telstra number > port thw number to non telstra > wait 30 days > before you can port back to Telstra

  • thank you OP, I availed of this deal today but instead of getting the S22 Ultra I got the S22 plus 256GB $199 upfront.

  • Any suggestion of a burner prepaid sim provider to use. Need to get prepaid sim before june15 to avail this promotion.
I think it only need to recieve/ incoming sms the porting code from telstra. So need for the sim to send outgoing sms.

    • Needs to be 31 days active so unless you already have one then you'll go through what I went through. If it wasn't for the store manager I wouldnt have got the $900 gift card and phone for $1350. They'll probably just cancel the contract for you.

      • Is your situation was you port your old telstra number to a new provider ( telstra needs you to be 31 days duration before can port it back the same number to telstra)

My scenario is I will get a totally new number either optus or amysim or kogan what ever is the cheapest prepaid sim just enough to have incoming sms to received the porting ppv code as it is needed when porting to telstra to qualify for the 0 upfront phone.

I called jbhifi and the person says as long as it is coming from a non telstra provider, should be fine to port to telstra. Either they don't bother to mention that technicality you need to be 31 days service from non telstra provider.
I told the guy that I plan to buy a new prepaid sim from another provider so I can port to telstra, and he just said should be fine.

        • He doesn't know what he's talking about. The new system validates the porting number. Go in and try it, Let us know the outcome.

The system now knows if the non-telstra Sim has been connected for minimum 31 days.
Just like the system knows if you try to connect a new Telstra number.

It's a handset subsidy and the system won't give the offer as a selection with a number less than 31 days old. However it might give them the $900 JB gift card.

          • @neofelis: Can’t people take up a new Telstra number then do a line swap after?

            • @syswong: Not for this deal. It's port in only.

We tried setting up new account, new number and didn't work. The new system doesn't offer the handset subsidy unless you port a non-telstra number over which has been active for 31 days.

I don't know if you can port belong or boost over either.

              • @neofelis: Hmm…. Interesting

TBH, they should really go back to the old handset subsidy model as that seem to work the best for customer. All these Apple centre, JB/TGG, Harvey deals are essentially the same thing but with too much clutter in the system. Just simple 24 months subed plans with a good phone. How hard is that?

My last full subed phone with contract was S10 512GB which is the top model back then and was about the same price as this deal on the Optus 500G plan.

  • Hi all, I am an existing Telstra user so obviously can go for a direct port but this is the phone number all my contacts have.
I also have an Aldi number/sim that I occasionally use for work when I want to contact clients but don't want them to have my personal phone number.
Is it possible to use the Aldi number/sim to get these bonuses, port my existing Telstra number to a different network, and then port back my existing personal Telstra number it with this deal going forward i.e. scrap the Aldi number once finished porting?

    • Probably best to ask in the forum. I don't know. Hope someone that knows sees this and can help you.

    • Yes you can but it will be very painful process. You would have to spend days on chat/phone with them. I've experienced this before so don't expect it to just work on your first contact, for whatever reason their system is clumsy or the agents lack knowledge.

    • Aren't Aldi on Telstra? I believe all the JB deals need to port for non Telstra operator.

  • Can we get a data sim to share the plan data?

    • According to comment above and what I googled, no. TGG and JB plan don't data pool.

The optus plans with Harvey does but their deals are generally less attractive.

  • Can the owners of S22 Plus and Ultra share their experience with these phones please? I used an S22 a couple of months back and I really don't see anything special about it to justify its price tag. Maybe the higher up models are much better? All the reviews you read on the net can be biased or quietly sponsored, so I'm not putting much thrust in them.

    • +1

the battery of the S22 plus (the one i got yesterday) is not that great, my iphone xs max's (almost 4 years old) battery performed better today, but at least Samsung charges faster.

    • +1

There is more to a Samsung and Apple to justify its price rag than the plan spec and feature. If you are only shopping on spec, you can just buy those dumping garbage from China brands.

As I mentioned in another thread, a 2019 S10 is still getting major update this year and likely security update for another year, there was also many improvment over the years. Then there is the after sales in store first party support. All these cost money which is one reason why Samsung and Apple cost more.

    • S22 Ultra is an absolute brick! It's massive…. Feels very large in the pocket but the processor is fast, the pen is good and the camera is good.
Charging time is good and overall it's a good phone but not revolutionary, I feel phones have hit a brick wall again in revolutionary features.

  • +2

You can possibly get $1450 GC with $79 plan here

Also, you could also try to price match with Amazon AU if you want to get the S22 Ultra, it's going for $1,697 so you only need to top up $247 instead of $399

    • Has anyone done this? Just walk out with the gift card after saying they will get a phone, or try to refund the phone later?

    • Anyone manage to do this? I ask jb today they said you can't price match for this deal

  • +1

Anyone had any luck with the number transfer? Is it possible to sign up with a new number, then transfer the existing? Keen yo sign up here, but already existing telstra… and the 31 days won't happen in time..

    • Would be interested in feedback on this too.

    • +2

Get a new sim from another provider. Activate and then go to jbhifi to port in to Telstra

As I called jb clarify if the 31 days waiting also applies to new non-telstra provider that I plan to buy and activate before Jun 15.
She told me on over the phone and 31 waiting is only for existing telstra number that ports out that you need to wait for 31 days before you can port back the same number to telstra (jbhifi promo)

Neofelis mention on the above post that he tried using a new number from a different provider but was not allowed by JBhifi to get the ZERO upfront for the S22 instead only given the $900 GC

I will try before June15 using a new sim/number from Koganmobile.
I was told it also depends if the handsets are still available before the stocks limit was reached or june 15 deadline

      • Thanks for that.

I'm a Telstra customer and would like to keep my number. Anyone know if I'll have any luck buying another provider SIM (say Optus), sign up to this deal with new SIM and move my existing (Telstra) number to the new contract?

      • +1

This is BS. You can go buy a prepaid sim from any other provider (excluding Boost & Belong), activate it and port it across 10 mins later if you like.

Telstra or JB have zero way of knowing how old the number is, you just tell them it’s your number and they’ll port it across for the port offers.

Anything else said by staff or someone else is BS
        (Source: 4 years Telco experience)

  • Does anyone know if I can port from Boost on this deal?

    • You'll need to port out and then back into Telstra unfortunately. I'm not sure how long you need to be ported out for tho, I'm curious to know too.

      • Technically 30 days. However, as Boost is now on a different system to what the JB plans are on, it’s unlikely the staff will notice this unless you tell them you’re on Boost. You could say Aldi and they would probably be none the wiser 90% of the time.

        • +1

Damm I ported to Moose mobile to take advantage of it. Thanks for the info

  • Guys its not a big deal at all, when they are offering A$79 plan with mobile to go for free in 24 months. The rules can be bent always.

  • Anyone tried returning the phone?

  • Did someone successfully request a number swap between 2 active telstra account which is both under my name?

Phone Number 1 - telstra plan about to end contract (I want to keep this number)
Phone Number 2 - New jb hifi telstra promo

Goal: I want to retain my old telstra "number 1" why I want it move to the new 24months plan account then cancel the other account that is about to expire

    • i'm doing the same, asked chat, they said they need to cancel the old contract and transfer the number takes 24 hours to complete so definitely doable.

  • Harvey norman have this deal tomorrow with optus https://ibb.co/vY83gnH
