Dropping 4K on a PC when ryzen 7000 and GTX4000 are on the horizon… ballsy.

    • +6

      screams "need to clear stock"

    • +20

Trying to get a new cpu/gpu on launch day at RRP is ballsy

    • +6

May be on the eve of a new gen, but at least these are quality parts… not having a $700 cpu on a $90 mobo, decent series gpu and quality ram, can't complain a bit about a rig of this calibre at this price

      • +4

Yes. It's a very, very strong rig that will last YEARS at ultra settings. Not to be sneezed at AT ALL.

  • +2

Trying to think of a worse investment than this. It's gonna lose half its value within 6 months

    • +7

      Bitcoin?

    • +14

      Not a chance.

You reckon 40 series cards will be 1 Cheap and 2 Readily available?

      • +1

When the 3070 first dropped, people refused to buy them because 'omg 3080'. Same thing for 3060Ti.

    • When was buying hobby IT ever an investment?

    • Calls on Z1P.

  • Can't argue the components too much with the exception of the RAM, would have preferred faster for this budget. MB I have no experiences with though.

Everything else is pretty good. Extra smaller Windows Drive wouldn't hurt too.

Though as above… maybe not the best time to buy.

  • This was my build that I brought about a month ago. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/tcHmrD

Works well for me, although the cables were too short from the power supply, and the placement of the motherboard in the case is a little tight.

Could get cheaper if you use the RAM mentioned above by about $180 https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/2q6zv3 works out the same speed overall IIRC.

    • No GPU?

That is an SFX PSU designed for small cases, the cables are made short for that reason.

      • That would explain a thing or two about how short the cables are. I learnt that I needed to do more research for next time, as I also did not realise that MB no longer come with embedded VGA, so had to add a Nvidia GT 730 to boot up the system. I only use it for hosting services, so don't need a powerful GPU.

        • Surprising pcpartspicker didn't say anything about it, they mention the bios for the motherboard but not the PSU that im not even sure would fit without a bracket in that case

          • @Axelstrife: Perhaps it does not know about cable length. If I had known it was the case that it came with small length cables I would have chosen another. Not their fault 100% mine for not checking.

The PSU came with an adapter plate to fit in the case. Works great once I brought the extension cables. The motherboard already had the right back adapter for the CPU and the fan came with the right parts. Overall a pleasant build, if not for the further mistake if no GPU.

I really don't understand why people expect to just be able to wander to their local shop and exchange RRP for a 40xx series card within months of release…add to this the expectations around what RRP will be and of that ever happens..

    • +3

The worst thing about the last 2 years and shortages with everything… is the companies realise that people are actually prepared to pay more for things….

No way Nvidia is just gonna release a $700 US RRP 3090ti killer and make that 'mistake' again.

      • +3

I know, so many talking about prices from 5+ years ago, it's not going back.

        • it's not going back

Unless crypto crashes even harder and miners dump all their cards, driving prices down to half what they are now (or less) as happened with the previous couple of crypto crashes.

          • @ItsMeAgro: It might go down to 30 series prices, but it wont go below.
Even without mining, the market showed it would pay more, so more they will charge.
The components and R&D are also going up, you do get more for your dollar, just like the evolution of smartphones

      • +1

Yep I think some consumers are under the impression AMD/NVIDIA are benevolent entities behoven to gamers…nope that'd be shareholders.

    • +2

      HODL!
I hope they're right, I know one of our suppliers has back orders approaching a year on multiple products.

The market has shown higher pricing and higher product tiers work, 4060 will be plenty for most, 4090 isn't for your average Joe.

    • just like ppl on here saying ARC will save the day.
Intel are well aware of the GPU prices, highly likely they will continue the trend

      • Arc are coming, they just don't know when

        • +1

I read that the intel GPU's will be pushed back to at soonest ,the end of this year due to their test samples over-heating, catching fire or melting lol. Even though they're not aiming top-tier, it will be good to have a 3rd competitor in the gpu market imo.

  • It's nice, good price too. Not sure about the exclusive PSU though I wouldn't work it

  • Just wondering if it’s possible to bring my own case?

    • Why would you? It's one of the best cases available

  • +1

cool deal, not a bargain tho.

  • Not specific to this deal. But any valid reason BPC don't offer paypal and/or Credit card charge by card number, not "ANZ eGate Secure Payway" ? - I wouldn't mind if they where a % charge.

I went to buy a MSI MAG B560 TORPEDO mobo for $130 as it was the cheapest price I could find. But decided to not go through with it as the only payments they offered where ZIP, eGate, Bank Transfer, or Humm.

  • Cool PC, totally silly for gaming unless you want to throw money against the wall.
I think you could get 90% of the FPS for 60% of the price if that was your goal

  • This should be called the Kraken Power Desperate Stock Clearance Gaming PC.

  • Is everyone really waiting for 4000 ?

    • +4

Everyone will say they're waiting for 40 series, see the price being above MSRP on release, refuse to buy and complain shouting hodl and they wait for 2 years later when GPU prices are finally below MSRP and then shout hodl again because 50 series will be coming out soon.

      • Exactly I got a nice upgrade after 4 years this year with 3080 and to be honest it can handle everything I throw at it.

  • +1

Speaking as a 3090 owner, plz don't buy a 3090, half the vram are on the back of the card, not properly cooled, I have to replace thermal pads and put a fan on the back. Only I can get the vram temp below 75 at full load.

    Get a 3090 ti instead.

  • Any idea how much this setup weighs? Planning to get it as a gift for my brother in Indonesia but unsure if I can bring it on a flight back.
