Almost a post every 2 days - lay off the posting yeah?

Friends don’t let friends buy Heymix.

Also given the almost daily frequency of these deals, at what point is this RRP and therefore spam?

Given they also set fire, explode and have a high failure rate this brand should be banned from Ozbargain.

    • A lot of the same applies to the generic, essentially no-brand, electronics from china.

      • +3

100%. But this brand in particular spams Ozbargain almost every single day. It is not a deal if it’s the real RRP in disguise, especially if they continually fail.

  • +2

OP - are you able to provide the SAA approval number for your chargers please?

I've seen this question asked a few times now, but never actually seen any answers.

      I also reply many times:)

      • +2

Could you post an uncropped, unblurred screenshot in higher quality?

Note to others - while this charger is mentioned in this grainy screenshot, a number of their other chargers don’t seem to be covered.

        • +3

Certificate is here, registered under Shanghai Juqia Network InformationTechnology Co., Ltd.

This charger is also sold under various brands.

      • Could you briefly explain why the image is only part of the certificate, and why the company name is blocked out?

        • -4

:) Because full info certification could be used in business. It already been used several times without our authorization.
Show the number could be checked on the website. So it's enough for consumers.

          • +1

            @auselect: Consumers appreciate transparency.

            • @boldwombat: So we show the key information about the certification number:)

If you goto the GlobalMark certificate database and search for the client number using 107298.

              https://www.global-mark.com.au/certificate-search/

              Hope this helps.

              • +2

@auselect: No, it doesn't help because it's still dodgy.

                • @boldwombat: Maybe it’s time to blame our accreditation systems then?
They’re likely just selling whatever they’re getting rebranded from China and there are plenty of dodgy resellers of similar products. There honestly doesn’t seem to be much to gain from pursuing this avenue of interrogating them.

                  • +2

@Yve: I see your point, the accreditation process isn't something they can do anything about. I was mostly referring to them blocking out their company name and cropping out part of the certificate, though.

                • +1

                  @boldwombat: Damn straight!

I want to know who "Shanghai Juqia Network Information Technology Co., Ltd." is? Are they the owner of HEYMIX TECH?

And, why would OP want to blur out this information initially?

      • +5

        Thanks for this.

Any idea why a search on the approvals register using that certificate number doesn't show any matches? I'm using the certificate number listed on your image - 508906.

Any reason why you claim this car charger to be SAA approved?

        • +1

I think it is easier for them to claim everything is SAA certified. Then just huff and puff, or go silent when we start to ask these questions.

IMHO, mods should require affiliated sellers who are claiming their electrical product is SAA certified to provide sufficient details about the certificate(s) in order to allow lookup by any members here.

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: Agree with everything you said. Also, the SAA certification that's so widely advertised pertains to mains powered devices, not automotive 12V applications. What's next? "SAA certified" solar rechargeable garden lights?

There are numerous stories of fires, smoke, overheating on Heymix products in both reviews and on Ozbargain posts. With the frequency of these posts and the wide range of Amazon listings for similar products, this brand is looking extremely dodgy. Downvote to bring attention to the potentially life threatening issues that a saving of about $10 could get you.

    Example:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/product-reviews/B09Q5ZMLM9/ref=acr…

  • +1

I don't know about others, but my experience with a Heymix charger has been very good! In fact, I'm currently using it on my laptop, and it's doing very well. Been using it pretty much every day for the last year or so and I'm very happy with it

    • Mine has been fine so far too.

      • +5

I believe in general, these chargers do work well when they work. But hearing about the issues and failure rate isn't good as it suggests QC issues. There are many name brand chargers which are advertised on Ozbargain, but we rarely hear about issues about them.

    • +7

This is a matter of statistics, and a risk assessment.

Statistically, you're likely not to have a problem. The issue with that is this risk is low likelihood, high consequence. These can easily damage devices or catch on fire (I've seen a failed charger burn down a transportable unit).

Ask anyone that had these fail catastrophically if it was worth saving the $20.

    • I've had the 2 port version of this for just about a year now and hasn't let me down at all

    • +4

Well, my experience was really good for about 6 months.
Then I could see a huge amount of smoke coming from it. Luckily I was at home and near the device when it happened. Also, at that time, nothing was connected to it.
Got a refund through Amazon, and it looked like I was not the only one with issues with this particular product.
The mention of SAA made me purchase it, now I would question it. Either the SAA approval process needs to improve, or the product was not certified or not built as per the product certified.

      • Did Amazon ask you to provide pics or to send the faulty unit back?

I have a couple of these Heymix USB chargers, now I'm concerned about continuing to use them.

And if SAA approval isn't enough to weed out fire risks, then how are consumers meant to know what's safe to buy and use in our homes?

I mean, sure, a brand like Belkin you would assume has safer/higher quality components… but beyond the brand recognition, there's nothing on paper to differentiate a Belkin USB charger from a Heymix one, if both have SAA approval. Other than price of course.

        • +3

The problem is they can get accreditation, change the design afterwards and continue to sell. If they have issues they shut up shop as a brand and then open a new one. As they’re rebadged products the bar to do this is quite low.

This is the reason you usually want to stick to longer term brands with a track record. And ideally have some kind of business presence within Australia beyond dropshipping through Amazon.

  • I have 2 of these ones and they have been brilliant.

  • I use it and have no issues. Recommended!

    • What kind failure scenario are you happy with? From reviews, it seems there is a fire risk.

  • +1

I just checked mine and it is so hot that it is almost untouchable. I never noticed it prior to this because it plugged in and sits under the desk. Should I return it to Amazon given how hot it gets?

    • +2

Also consider that heat is wasted electricity, most these cheap chargers seem very inefficient, it's probably wasting 100w of power as heat to produce the 65w of output …

      • If you had a PowerPal device or something similar, you could see how much power it is wasting whilst idle.

  • Okay now I’m terrified to use my Heymix 120w of charger I haven’t gotten around to using yet

  • +3

HEYCRAP TECH deals should be banned from OzBargain as the products are a clear fire risk based on numerous reported incidents.

They don't even respond to pre-sales questions sent to: [email protected]. Imagine you needed actual support / refund from them after your product catches on fire.

    Avoid at all costs.

  • what is a good certified alternative then? I only bought this some time ago because of the positive here for this charger.

    • +3

      Belkin or Thor.

    • +6

Anker, Belkin, ZMI, Cygnett are all good alternatives. They go on sale semi regularly.

  • +3

Down voting due to the serious risk with these products. Should be banned from Ozb
