    Says $49.95 for me?

  • It might be. I saw this (or something similar, Matador smart probe) at Altona for $10 as well last weekend.

Link is for two probe pack. Deal is for single probe version (probably an older model).

Have seen these doing the rounds on Facebook groups - the comments seemed to suggest they are pretty rubbish…

  • People need to just buy a Thermapen and then you're done. They're quality, long lasting, and the best way to take the temperature of meat. It's not very OzBargain advice, but over time you will save money on buying a bunch of cheaper ones that break.

    • I agree. Took the plunge and I don't regret it

    • Different product, different purpose.

      (Thermapen + Inkbird IBBQ-4T here.)

Totally different usage though to a Thermapen though.

This Matador unit is probably not worth it even at $10, but the remote sensor, wireless connected style thermometers are great. ThermoWorks have various versions. Inkbird is pretty good I think without costing as much.

Depends on your cooking style, but I find both Thermapen style devices and wireless remote probe systems are great in different circumstances. But for a lot of my cooking, it works much better to keep the probe in the meat during the entire time, and get the temp without having to open the oven / BBQ / slow cooker. And features like having multiple probes, temp alarms, being able to record and export a temperature profile record is super handy. It really helps find tune cooking, if you are into such things, when you can monitor multiple meats, and the cooking environment itself.

      • True, I use an old precursor to the Weber probe as an always in probe and for more accurate temp in the smoker, then a Thermapen to check for sure. For steak and roasts, I just use the Thermapen though, the probes do more damage than good, leaking too much juice.

  • Has anyone used one of these photos such as in the link above,
gone to a different Bunnings that's still selling the items at full price and requested a price match,
or even better a price beat by 10%?!

Ebay sellers are probably buying them from Bunnings and marking them up to sell at exorbitant prices…like them do with gardening products like Cyclone etc

  • I'm using it right now, downloaded the app and connected easily. Its in a tomahawk and monitoring nicely.

    You can't beat meat heat

  • bought one last weekend, just getting into smoking so I can't compare with another product… but connecting to my phone was easy, I made a new profile for the cook I was going and it was super handy to keep an eye on the temp from my lounge room, the alarm went off when the temp was reached even though my phone was in my pocket.
seemed to do everything it advertised without issue.
    great buy at $10 imo.

  • Plenty of these in stock at Frankston, 3199.
