Would take this over a mech any day

    • +1

      How about a Mech Warrior?

    • It's only the Mech oc1 that's awful. For clarification this eagle is also awful. The normal mech is fine. XFX/Powercolour/Sapphire are better again

      • Is gaming oc pro comparable to xfx/sapphire?

        • +3

Close enough. Main issue with eagle/oc1/challenger is they can hit 80 degrees and are noisier. I would pick the xfx/sapphire if same price as gaming oc because their build quality is superior and they specialize in AMD sku's unlike the others. Asrock have plastic backplates which insulate heat and shorten the cards life (as all inferior cooling does).

Some models also have a lot better memory cooling than others. Things as simple as thermal pads being in the least optimal spot, and this is not specifically limited to cheaper models it can be a hit and miss thing (so it pays to check reviews for the particular card).

Where did you hear that eagle is awful

        • The 3 fans version (gigantic heatsink) holds up well.

Online reviews indicate 10-15 degree Celcius lower than 2 fans.

May not be cheaper than the other one, depends on delivery. And that deal has a link to $419 with free shipping, from mwave.

And this is what, the 3rd, decent brand 6600 XT deal around this price in 24 hours?

I'm thinking $400 for a 6600 XT is less a 'bargain' and more 'the new normal price'.

Let's hope 400 is no longer a bargain in a week from now.

I'm in Perth so we lose a couple of weeks while it goes through the time portal security to take it back to the 1990s

        • GST too? Since it's an overseas import.

          • +2

@Domicron: No GST hasn't been invented yet, looking forward to that, going to make things so much simpler and cheaper…. I can't wait!

  • Can now get the gaming oc version for $415 by using afterpay coupon from ebay

    • Any practical difference on low end card? OC usually give marginal gain and often make no difference in reality.

      • I believe the eagle has a plastic backplate while gaming oc has a metal back plate and better fans

  • this or Gigabyte Radeon RX 6600 XT Eagle 8GB Graphics Card $414 @jw ?? which have 3 fans

    • huh?? this one got 3 fan and same??

      • sorry , or MSI Radeon RX 6600 XT MECH 2X OCV1 8GB Video Card $419 Shipped @ Mwave ??

        • Is the MECH (whatever that means) version better?

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125351960170

Coz this person seem to think so. Claiming the card is fetching for $400+ and this is only a slight EOFY dip.

I guess $250 offer from my end is abit low.

          • @Domicron: I wouldn’t buy a second hand card in this climate as it’s no doubt been flogged, or mined with, or has a weird issue

            • @DemocracyManifest: Yes. I did ask questions upfront and have a degree of trust on the sellers words. I guess buying new will save that hassle as well cheaper than used ones.

Expectation of the used card sellers is a bit of a joke.

              • @Domicron: I’m surprised at the consistently high prices achieved on dead cards

                • @DemocracyManifest: I wouldn't pay more than 70% of the market price for a new one, a used card that still has warranty on it.

Used ones are asking for more than a new one is bizarre. I guess market will play its role and seller will get burnt.

Some dude on fleabay are offloading app 20 cards of various models. Goodluck to that person.

                  • @Domicron: Yeah mining sell off, it’s happening all over marketplace too

                    • +1

@DemocracyManifest: Over the past week I've been monitoring ebay et al, and whilst more cards are appearing the asking prices are so hilarious it's not even worth the bother of trying to talk them down. So many people are just going to end up with their old definitely-used-for-gaming-only cards gathering dust in a drawer because they can't bear the shame of losing money on the things.

                      • @motk: Have you been checking sold listings? They will eventually give up on buy it now

                        • @DemocracyManifest: Yeah, don't really trust those as it doesn't reflect the actual sale price a lot of the time.

                      • @motk: But yeah lol, I’d be wary of a ex-mining card going on the blink earlier than expected

Release date was 6 months ago, that's 6 months extra having the card and using it.

Would you really hold 6 months to save $100 ?"

  • +1

    $330? Almost half.

Looks like they've changed it to free shipping as well now

Xfx 6600 xt is now $419 at PLE for those looking for alternative

    • Thanks for sharing that, I was looking at buying that for $500 for a while. Nice to see that I can save $80 because I was tossing up if I should buy the gigabyte eagle instead

    • Oh my this is a way better card isn't it, that heatsink looks giant!!! I'm still waiting for my refund on a 6600xt from pcbyte, luckily cancelled the order asap. I saw these ones on sale after I brought it for 449$ but they were slow on shipping and had a candle order option!

  • M… Will either this or the 6600 hit $300 by next week? Urgh… Would be a nice upgrade from the current gtx1050

    • From 400~ish to 300$ is 25% price diff, and I don't think it will happen in a week for this low-end market. I guess 6600 will get to 300$ on Jul, and 6600xt at 300 when we get 7000 series pricing lol.
