Why do they make "gaming" laptops look so bloody chunky and ugly :( … nice specs, but an ugly laptop.

    • +4

Because powerful components in such a small form factor require chunky cooling solutions.

FYI .. i have this laptop paid $799.. .its 2KG and slim for a gaming laptop

I got this asus tuff for $799 here > https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/702226
its dated made in 04/2022 :) paid $44 for a stick of 8Gb ddr3200 to bump it up to 16GB

    • the chunk looks good, it's a nice break from all the paper thin laptops.

The CPU is an i5-11400H. 6 cores, 12 threads running on Intel's 10nm Tiger Lake architecture.

Overall a pretty good machine for the price.

  • I have one of these https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/703148 sitting here. I'm yet to open the box as I learnt it doesn't have USB-C to charge and use a dock with external monitors, and will probably sell it off. I'm on the lookout for a similar spec with this USB-C port I want. Does this laptop have it?

    • +4

I don't think many gaming laptops will charge over USB-C at the moment

      • +1

Interesting. Maybe I should just keep the one I have?!

    • USB-C to charge NO
      USB-C to display YES

    • Just get something like this. Make sure the barrel head is correct, if not search for the right one with google. Should work at up to 100W, but still lower than the 135W the default charger appears to be.

Cheaper from Aliexpress and possible eBay, look around.

Ozbargain really dislikes linking from google :p

      • wow - didn't know they existed! However, this still won't let me connect to a docking station or put out video via anything other than the HDMI port. I love how my work Dell Latitude connects to everything (power, external monitors, keyboard/mouse) all via one USB-C cable to the docking station.

    ahh yes, gaming laptops.

  • This one or the TUF Dash FX157 i5 at JBHifi for 1500?

  • Have this but older and rtx2060
    It's chunky
But damn it's a good machine

    • 2060 is about same speed a 3050?

  • Why we don't see laptop with 1TB SSD ? Every one want ongoing subscription revenue for cloud storage or want people to buy external hard drive which is inconvenient..!

    • +1

Bingo… also.. 500gb is cheaper for them.. also.. they want you to buy a new laptop when you need more local storage.

      • I know… The issue isn't cost of portable hard drive but to Carry with you all the time and possibility of loosing it somewhere…is outrageous….and alternative to that is give ongoing subscription to Google or Amazon or similar cloud storage.

Another issue of replacing smaller drive with bigger yourself is the warranty and amount of time and work needed to reinstall system and softwares and data transfer…!

I managed to buy Acer outdated model I think last year from uncle Harvey ..as the shop clearing stock with 1TB SSD … !

There must be bigger conspiracy by laptop manufacturers to reduce inbuilt hard drive sizes in my opinion.

        • i use either Samsung magician (only with samsung nvme drives) or Min-tool shadow copy to clone the 128-500gb NVMe in the laptop onto a 1TB ( in an nvme portable enclosure ) and just swap them over after.. no reinstall of anything needed .. They work well
