  • $1,0001?

    • +1

      No, $1,000 to the power of 1 = $1000

  • +10

I just churned this card a few months ago for the same deal and closed it today. Took them a few days to credit me $300 but totally worth it if you're spending 1.5K in 3 months anyway like me.
I dislike the CommBank app tho, AMEX is superior imo

    • +6

      Are you me?

      From my notes:
$300 cashback after $1500 spend within 90 days
      Approved 2022-04-20
      Activated 2022-05-06
      Met Spend 2022-05-29
      Got cashback 2022-06-10
      Cancelled 2022-06-12

      • +2

Haha nice. The low fee gold was my second card churned, im looking to get more into it!

      • congrats! Diligence is the way to profit.

      • The reward for this offer is $200. Which one did you use to get $300?

    • +1

      Different card

  • +3

$500 min credit limit, Wowee that’s tiny. Didn’t know banks gave out numbers that low!

    • +1

Got my first credit card back in 2019 was a $500 one, was shocked they had them so low back then too.

      • Got my first credit card in 1993 with $500 credit limit, was not shocked as I got no money back then.

    • -1

This doesn't have any interest free days right so it wouldn't be wise to carry a big balance anyway

      • wrong

  • so only new customers? damn, I have got this card actually.

    • +7

The key is to get the card, spend the minimum inside 90 days to get the Cashback then close the card and repeat after 12 months

      • +1

But then all these credit enquires will be on your credit report

        • +21

Unless you're applying for a home loan, who cares? Even with over a dozen applications on my credit report the bank was happy to give me a loan, I simply explained I churn cards for bonus offers and to look at my perfect payment and closure history.

    • Didn't see any reference to new customers only in the T&Cs - existing CBA cardholders should also be eligible for this offer

      • New customers to this particular card i.e not held within last 12months - not new clients to CBA

  • +1

I had a CBA CC once upon a time. How do I check if I am elligible to apply for this now if it was same card and cancelled more than a year ago?

    • +5

I think as long as it was over 12 months ago then it’s fine. Worked for me two times

      • +2

        Thanks mate

  • +1

Do we get the Comm bank Spend X get X offers on this card ?

  • Very nice.

Could stack with the $250 max annual cashback on Hiver Bank accounts.

    • Sorry what do you mean by that? Does it just mean that you will get $250 from Hiver and $200 from this?

or are you using this to pay off whatever you spend from Hiver? (not sure how that works)

      • +1

think he means you can only get max $250 through Hiver p.a., so you can use this card as well and on min $6000 spend in the year ($1000 in 3 months on this card) it is $450 cashback, instead of only $250 for a min $5000 spend on Hiver alone.

  • +3

Is there any negatives churning credit cards?

    • +8

      plastic waste

    • +8

Too many credit card application could possibly affect your credit score. Also, some banks blacklist you if you churn their card a few times (have read other post on OzB about this). I personally don't churn so don't have first hand experience though.

  • +1

How much income does one need?

    • +1

pretty low. min credit limit on this tiny so you could get a 1k limit with pretty small income

    • +5

I'm on a Disability Support Pension and was able to get this card. You only need to apply for a $500 limit

      • Makes it a bit harder with the $1000 minimum spend. I usually just whack on a couple of big items like annual insurance premiums or rego and be done with it.

    • i remember when i was a uni student earning $500 a wek a couple years ago, i got this card with $2k credit limit

  • How long did it take you to get approved?
I've applied Friday last week and have a bunch of bills to pay by the 21/06, hoping I can make it but no news so far (apart from a bunch of docs they requested few days in)
Applied a few years ago and remember it was a bit painful - required me to visit a branch

    • That’s not giving me much hope. I applied Friday. I thought the application was a bit of a pain. Wouldn’t let me go back or add other credit cards. Should have went with HSBC but I think that’s dropped from $600 to $500.

      • What HSBC offer are you referring to?

        • Credit Card. Was emailed to me at $600 cash back for $3000 spend. I clicked it two weeks later and it was $500.

          • +1

@HereToSave: Any links pls? I cannot seem to find it 8)

            • +1

@Jayblesz: The offer only comes to those with a HSBC account. So I signed up first.
              Email:

              $600 in Cash Back
Spend $3,000 on eligible purchases using your new card within 90 days from card approval and receive 120,000 bonus Rewards Plus Points. That’s enough for $600 in Cash Back3. New Rewards Plus customers only.

              once clicked through:
Get 120,000 bonus Rewards Plus points when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases using your new card within 90 days of card approval.¹ That's enough for $500 in e-Gift Cards from great retailers like Bunnings, Coles, Woolworths, Uber and more.

            • @Jayblesz: The account is good in itself as you get 2% back on purchases under $100.

    • +1

Depends on who the bills are with you could try to get an extension?
For example my power bill was as simple as a few clicks online under my account and got an extra month, all utilities were pretty reasonable especially post covid.

      • It's all car related (rego, insurance, service) so unfortunately not

  • +1

I guess not but… Is paying another BSB/Account considered as a purchase? Or direct debit (bills)?

  • +1

does anyone know if PayPal pay in 4 would count towards the $1000 spend?

    • Only if you pay off by the 90 days

      • Oh yeah that should be fine. Pay in 4 is only 4 x 14 days = 56 days

  • Good offer. What cards are you guys getting after you get the $200 ?

    • +1

Citibank has one offering $600 cashback at present ($2,000 min spend via Apple/Samsung Pay)
      Reduced annual fee of $150
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/705964

    • I just applied for the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card that has:
      * First year halved fee ($129 original to $64)
      * 100k bonus velocity points (4 X 25k points per month in first 4 months with $1.5k spend/month) - approx $480 in gift cards if you redeem that way
      * $129 Virgin Australia Gift Voucher

Seems to be one of the highest value bonuses with easy enough to meet spend criteria ($1500 per month isn't a big spend for my wife and I) —- although the 4 months to get the full bonus is the only downfall IMO.

No biggie though, just a bit extra to wait before cancelling…. But… Works out to prepare for another churn just prior to Christmas ;)

      • Highest Value bonuses for the velocity program maybe certainly not Qantas…

        • Any suggestions for QFF earning card @adrianhughes1998?

        • -1

When you compare the annual fee payable I'm pretty sure it is one of the highest value dollar value bonuses atm—- maybe some of the big ANZ or amex are better bonuses but with higher annual fee and $15k min credit.

I got the ANZ QFF 100K bonus card like 2 months ago but that's now reverted to like 60k or 80k pts. Can you link a better one than I posted in my comment above? ;)

          • -1

@Jayblesz: Deals turn up here at times on OzBargain where annual fees are reduced to 49 bucks or pro rata for NAB, or sometimes zero dollars.

I got 415K points for $115 total in annual fees from March 2020 to March 2022.

      • Good card for VFF points @Jayblesz!
This one is also not bad: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/687349
Essentially 3k spend (much lower than 6k for Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card) and $0 annual fee for 60k bonus VFF points

        • That one is not bad at all with the $0 annual fee! Another good one with a marginally low limit and spend requirement.

Similar to the BankSA offer late last year that has now ceased.
I had a Citi Rewards card around 2 years ago when they first rolled out the $500 JB/Myer/Bunnings gift card with $3k spend and $0 annual fee.

By my surprise they're not actually too bad to deal with- although make sure you opt out of marketing from them otherwise prepare to receive unsolicited phone calls for their products.

  • does paying for strata on bpay count?

    • +1

      I'd also like to know?

    • T&Cs stated spend at least $1,000 purchases not including balance transfers and cash in advance. Bpay is considered as cash in advance so the answer would be no.
edit: read T&Cs again and corrected this comment

  • +1

Got approved for 4.5k lol not bad i guess

    • How long did it take ?

  • Does this one also come with the international travel insurance - similar to the other CBA offer ($300 back)?

    • +1

      No.

  • +1

Just got approved for the one with $300 cashback. This is going to sound really dumb, but I've never had a credit card before, only debit… how does the interest free for x amount of days work (I think it says up to 55 days for this)? Do you only need to pay when you get the monthly statement and pay by a due date on that statement, or does each purchase have an interest fee period and I need to keep track of when i purchased things?

    • +2

Pay the monthly statement in full by the due date is how it works.

      • +1

Thanks, I thought it would but didn't want to get caught out paying 20% interest. So by doing this I shouldn't have any fees or anything like that?

        • +6

Correct, pay the balance in full by the due date and there won't be any interest admissible.

    • Most cards will let you set up direct debit to pay the full due amount from your normal account on the day it’s due meaning you won’t get charged interest.
Just don’t use it to withdraw cash - no interest free period on that. Don’t know if they still allow this.

      • Yep. Set up direct debit to have it automatic pay from your saving/transaction acc. Set and forget, although CommBank required you to come into branch of the account from another bank.

  • Thanks

I have a CBA Diamond CC, am I eligible or must be completely new customer?

  • +2

Weird how Commbank considers lotto tickets to be cash advance, never been charged an extra fee on any other card ive used

    • +1

I know.. Its pain to remember with CBA card

    • +1

And Sportsbet (or similar) account deposits

  • Does anyone know paying bills(water, gas, electricity, etc.) count towards the $1000 spend?

    • Water probably won't since it's a government organisation you are paying, but gas and electricity companies are just retailers so yes they should count.

      • +1

Is this part of the terms and conditions that only certain things contribute to $1000/$1500 spend? I don't understand why they wouldn't count.

    • +1

      From https://www.commbank.com.au/credit-cards/low-fee-gold.html#t…
To be eligible for the $300 cashback on a new Low Fee Gold card, you need to spend at least $1,500 on purchases (not including balance transfers and cash advances) using your new card within 90 days of activation.

So seems spending on your bills is included. Some cards do exclude government payments, some even exclude any BPAY payments.

  • If you can spend $1500 in 90 days, get the low fee gold CC for $300 cashback.

  • The gold card has no international transactions fees seem pretty good for online shopping and oversea travel.

  • Why is this getting so many votes when you get closer to $500 in woolies vouchers from citi https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/705671

    • +4

      lower limit, spend, fee.

    • CitiBank also doesn’t support Google Pay which can be another reason.

  • +2

This could be enticing also for the 30% off NBN for CommBank cards, which I'm currently looking to get first NBN connection.

    • thanks for reminding me of this deal, perfect to churn from Mate once the $100 bonus is used up there :-)

  • +1

The application process is onerous, I just went through it, at least an hour.

    • +2

What are you talking about? I was done in 5 minutes

    • You're not telling them your life stories , aren't you? Should be a quick 5-10min job.

    • Anyone else find the application confusing ? It says “your application has been submitted …if you attached your documents there’s nothing else to do.” But then it says “save and submit later?”

  • open,
    spend
    collect.
    close
    goto Citi
    repeat
    next time do same again
    after lockout time again…

    • How do you spend that much though?
